With the announcement of Extreme Butoden I was thinking as far as handheld games go why can't do an updated version of the Legacy of Goku series?
I know I'm not alone in thinking Legacy of Goku 2 is one of the best DBZ games they've ever made. The original wasn't really very good and the third wasn't quite as good but they never did anything else with that series.
Attack of the Saiyans was the only game since then to be even a little similar and that wasn't nearly as good either. It also never had a sequel.
The home console DBZ games are probably only ever going to be fighting games. A Legacy of Goku type game for PS4 is a dream that'll never become reality unfortunately. It is a definite possibility for handhelds though but even these days we just seem to get more fighting games for it. We don't even have anything like Dragon Ball Origins now.
So yeah if they were to take Legacy of Goku 2 and spread it so it covered the entire series, update the graphics, add a few extras and make any necessary improvements but otherwise leave the rest of it alone then I think that'd make for a great game.
Sorry if anyone read the thread title and got excited but I didn't know how to word it well.

Re: Dragon Ball Z: Legacy of Goku Trilogy Remaster.
I've wanted a decent RPG for a long time. Attack of the Saiyans was similar to what I had in mind, but it wasn't as refined as I'd have liked, nor could it compare to other big-name titles in the genre (or even newcomers like Radiant Historia, gameplay-wise). I was very upset when I learned that the sequel wasn't going to happen, as I'd hoped it would improve upon the original.
The Legacy of Goku series, well... They're good games, I won't deny that. I suppose I wouldn't mind a new series in a similar vein, it's just... Those games aren't what I picture when I think "Dragon Ball RPG". I could see game that controls similarly to OoT3D doing well. I'm growing weary of the endless fighting games, so I'd welcome anything that deviates from the formula.

Just mash shit up. Like, REALLY mash it up.
Make a new (New) 3DS game that serves as a general sequel to Dragon Ball Origins 2. Include major influences from the Legacy of Goku series, with a hint of Sagas to adapt to the less ground based combat of DBZ. Have it cover the 22nd Budokai and Piccolo Daimao as an introduction, then cover from Raditz to Revival of F. =P

The developers of Legacy of Goku are still around and making games. Webfoot could make a remake of Legacy of Goku on the 3DS if Namco Bandai hires them. I feel like it's unlikely since those games were made by Atari's involvement and where mainly made for the US market at the time. I think Namco Bandai wants to avoid anything related from the Atari days. Legacy of Goku 2 got a Japanese release due to the game doing well in America. Since it got great reviews, Bandai decided to release it in Japan.

As stated above, this isn't Bandai Namco's series. You rarely see licensed titles from other publishers then get transferred to the current license holder. Bandai Namco hasn't done a great job archiving the Dragon Ball games either. Other than J-Legend and Budokai HD, none of the classic games are legally obtainable today without buying an obsolete platform.
2D games seldom get "remasters" (which is marketing lingo for port) because sprites aren't as easily scaled up and require more work to touch up than a 3D game. It certainly happens, but you'll often find weird blurring filters are applied to try to ease the look. I don't believe any Gameboy Advance game has gotten a home console port.

"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.

Which is to say remake; because that's what that means for a 2D game.
The phrase "remaster" in of itself implies the game is a port- the only ones who don't get this are gaming media who call HD Collections remakes for God knows why. If a game got anything significant beyond the resolution bump, I'd think a company is allowed to call it such. The Wii U virtual console half counts, as far as portable games deliberately re-released on a console in some format, but then lacking magnification filter (which is insane given that that's how you get around tiny sprites and that the team responsible for the emulator is supposed to be renowned for their work), it's not the best example.Super Saiyan Prime wrote:2D games seldom get "remasters" (which is marketing lingo for port) because sprites aren't as easily scaled up and require more work to touch up than a 3D game.
