An August update on the DaizenshuuEX main page wrote:Podcast Episode #0039 + Akira Toriyama TV Interview?!
VegettoEX @ 2:32 pm EDT -- Episode #0039 of the podcast is available for download! We've finally gotten around to giving our huge review of Battle Stadium D.O.N., which so many people have been looking forward to. In addition to that, we've got tons of links (images, videos, etc.) for you to check out... but you have to listen to the episode! Definitely check it out.
Also, as noted in the episode, Anime News Service is reporting that Akira Toriyama himself will be granting an on-camera interview to NHK's Top Runner chat show. We do not yet have an exact confirmation on this, but we'll certainly let you know what happens... as soon as we find out!
It's been a while since I heard anything, but I think this was rumored to take place on the 12th of Spetember. Does anyone have an update concerning this? If the interview actually took place, I don't remember seeing anything more about it on the main page or here at the boards.
If we're still waiting for confirmation and/or the interview has been rescheduled, do give me the details. If the interview has already happened and been discussed, then please point me toward the appropriate thread and laugh, laugh, laugh at my apparent blindless.
Thank you.

I certainly hope so, to be honest I've never actually seen an on cam. interview (I have seen a few written ones though)

Actually, it was mentioned in one of the later podcast episodes (I think either one of the ones with Jeff in it, or the one following it) that the interview never happened

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

I love that. Kuririn and Luffy need to have their own Jump special. Add Yajirobe in there just to drive Mayumi Tanaka completley insane

Actually, Toriyama did make the design for Coola. So technically he created the being in a way. Hence why Cashman looks so much like Coola.

This question is for pekinduck, or anyone else from Japan.
Now I know we hear very little about Toriyama, but do you hear a bit more about him where you live? How do people view him over there, do they think he is just another Manga author, or has he reached a level where everybody has heard of him and would be honoured to do anything related with him?
We all know Dragonball has died out a lot, but in Japan of course they will still have some merchandise and things available, my question is do people view Dragonball as a washed out old anime/manga or do they consider it as an old favourite?
It still is obviously popular with the release of games keeping it alive, but besides the games do you hear much of it?
Also which is the most popular, Dr Slump or Dragonball?

Last time one of my Japanese friends mentioned anything Dragonball, he was talking about the first DBZ movie and he said something in Japanese that translated out to something to the effect of "good old".
Hope that helps somewhat, CHibi Goten.

No.
Dragon Ball is madly insanely popular. Even when not in merchandise everyone still talks about it.
Raditz' power level is common knowledge amongst the general population of youth and at least one kid in a classroom can tell you that Porunga is 5x the size of Shenron.
But no one really cares about AT, just the pulp.

Wow, that is so crazy. So its safe to say that
DragonBall is equal to what
Star Wars is here? Is it common for teachers and other adults to be familiar with Goku and the others? (Picture your teacher debating with you over the Majin Vegeta v. Goku fight..

)

A lot bigger. DB is common knowledge. No screwing around. It's a rite of passage.
In the same vein, that's not to say everyone is insane and bonkers over it. They just
know it.
