Re: Another live action DBZ Project
It was a pretty cool video! Certainly better than K&K's work in my opinion as there was some nice mood created in the shots and it felt appropriately cinematic rather than something filmed by amateurs. usually I'm not a fan of the gritty take on Dragonball Z but in this case it works and I think the wardrobes really help sell it as they don't feel totally out of place in a real world setting. The only thing that let the visual presentation down were some of the effects but that's understandable on a low budget. Some effects did look good regardless but with the practical stuff looking so good the ki blasts kind of stood out in my opinion. Maybe focusing more on hand to hand combat would have helped hide this.
I have to say that the sound design kind of sucked in a lot of places and didn't really fit with the look of the film. It's especially noticeable in the beginning with the cartoony bullet noise and the weird echo effect on the gunshot when it cuts away from the androids. My only other issue was the use of Dragonball Z sound effects for the fighting but I suppose some people like that. For me personally it just took me out of the moment a little bit and felt jarring to hear.
The casting was good all around. Trunks' acting could've been better but it's forgiven since he's a child actor. Phenomenal job on 17 and Gohan, they both gave memorable performances and looked the part.

Re: Another live action DBZ Project
I can't believe that I liked this. The action scenes and special effects were pretty good for a small budget web series. I think the acting was pretty cheesy since I did find myself laughing how bad the acting was during the scene with #17 shooting the guy in the head with the gun. I do feel like this is how Dragon Ball should be done in live action. The characters look faithful and different at the same time without looking silly as hell.

Just pointing out, fairly noticeable continuity break. The blood on 17's face just up and disappears between shots of him killing people and stays gone the rest of the battle.

I wrote into the script that he wiped the blood away with his scarf, but the scene didn't make the cut, since it was superfluous.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:Just pointing out, fairly noticeable continuity break. Re: Another live action DBZ Project
Nice to see that it was originally addressed, but I can't say I agree. Not with where it disappears anyway. Before the ki firing? Sure, he wiped it off. After Trunks punches him? The hit vaporized it or something. Either would have worked, but the editing as is feels like it was done to make 17 seem like he was just continuously turning and blasting people, so the blood disappearing for basically no reason feels extremely awkward. As if something is missing (which there apparently was) similar to the differences between the Theatrical Edition of Battle of Gods feeling incomplete next to the Special Edition.

Good job cast and crew! Sooooo much better than K&K's attempt. With most of the crew being based in LA, any chance that you will try and show this off to 20th Century FOX? I do have some ties with that company so I can show the video as well.

BTW, seeing how you created the thread, think you can change the name to actually mention the shows name at least? That way people looking to talk about it, who haven't already been in here, know where to look? lolAvenged wrote:Good job cast and crew! Sooooo much better than K&K's attempt. Yes, but we're going to wait to show it to the official license holders until we have at least a million views. We want to show that there is a demand, and for them to associate us with that demand.

The best live action DBZ project, bar none. Can't wait for more episodes.

Re: Dragon Ball Z Light of Hope
Question though.
Why wasn't the scene with Goku explained more? For the average fan it would have been good to explain what happened to Goku and co better.

Re: Dragon Ball Z Light of Hope
I wrote several different intro's, all of which explained the backstory and the characters who were killed, including Piccolo, Tenshinhan, Vegeta, and so on. But none of them were filmed because of a lack of budget, lack of time, and other restrictions. We ended up with what we did, but now I think it's short and sweet enough to establish the premise. Anything longer might have turned non-fans away.Avenged wrote:Question though.

That was really cool. Of course I have nitpicks for being a heavy DB fan, but it works well on non-fan perspective as well I'd say.

I trust these guys with Dragon Ball unlike K&K. If you guys are given a Hollywood size budget and get good actors then you could make a good DB live action movie. I can't wait for episode 2.

Re: Dragon Ball Z Light of Hope
This is pretty great. There were some parts that did feel somewhat amateurish, but overall it was pretty exciting and the battle was great. The actor for 17 is spot on. Gohan doesn't look like what I'd imagine Future Gohan would look like but the actor is good nonetheless. Bulma is pretty cool too (the actress is hot as fuck but very convincing as a genius inventor). The SSJ form didn't seem as impressive as I'd hoped after the transformation (hair not shiny enough?), but still convincing.
The only thing I don't like is that we already know the outcome to these battles, so I can't hope to see Gohan kick as much as he could, etc. But that's how the story is.
