I never was a fan of Young's portrayal of Freeza and have thought that Ayres's portrayal of Freeza is one of the best things to ever happen to the cast of Dragon Ball as a whole. If Frieza is really the only one of his kind (mutant) with Cold dead, it makes no sense for him to call himself a prodigy if he has no one to compare himself to. Food for thought...

Heck, maybe they're the only ones of their species alive. I wouldn't be surprised if Freeza killed off his own race, just in case one of them also happened to be born a mutant with even more power than he has.

I don't understand this discussion. Do you know what a clan even means? Two person doesn't count as a clan, unless thier race was exterminated like the Saiyans were.
Freeza IS the prodigy, since he was born with a very high battle power, even higher than his father was. He isn't one of a kind. He just is a mutant, unlike the rest of his race. His father too is a mutant. I fail to see how this is a legitimate discussion.

I like to think his planet was an uninhabitable wasteland, and him, his father, and the few others of their "clan" were complete mistakes even the Kaioshin did not anticipate. Hence why he feels a sense of entitlement towards every other planet in the universe, and thinks so highly of himself. Perhaps King Cold and him aren't really even related, but were born the same way, and one happened to have existed first.

This is true. There wasn't nearly this much conflict during the lead up top BOG. I still think it all comes down to the fact that it's Freeza.
