All of DBZ Kai(prior to Yammamoto's elimination), DB Heroes, and Xenoverse. That's about it!

My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

Not a god damn thing.
And if this is the shit the franchise is gonna be from now on, It's going to go on without me.

Re: What are the good things to come out of modern DBZ?
I'll have to side with Kaboom and third the idea of Toriyama shaking things up. Say what you will about the minor plot holes that occur from it - cuz it's not like the series never had those to begin with, righht? - everything he's done as of late (though somewhat less successfully/enjoyable with Minus) has just felt 'right' to me. If you had asked me what I wanted from a continuation of Dragon Ball's story, if we ever got another one, before all of this started, then I wouldn't have been able to answer you. But through all of the recent things he's thrown out there, I've reaffirmed my belief that Toriyama is at his best when he does the unexpected, when he does things that we never would have been able to guess was coming. That's exactly the sort of thing the manga is filled with (sure, it's easy to guess how things would play out now, looking back, but when it was first coming out?), and that's exactly the sort of thing I'd like to keep seeing more of in the future.
Other than that though...I'd say probably Kai's dub. I've always been able to survive the old dub, even at it's worst, and Kai may be one clusterfuck of a product...but man if it isn't nice to watch the show and not cringe at dialogue, and not take forever to get through fights.

And considering how pretty much all of your posts now seem to be 'BUT GOKKKKUUUU BLLEEEH'...then not really a lot of value would be lost.Rocketman wrote:Not a god damn thing.

I'm getting a kick out of your commentary on it, even if it doesn't make up for the bad,
I like Beerus as a character, and some of the BoG gags. If Xenoverse counts as modern DBZ, that as well. And that's about it.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

-Dragon Ball Heroes: While I'm not a big fan of the concept. I feel that if I were kid, it would probably be the coolest thing ever to me as I had at one point possessed some Dragon Ball Z trading cards of my own. Plus its great that its bringing up a whole new generation of Dragon Ball fans.
-Jaco the Galactic Patrolman and Dragon Ball Minus: Am I the only one that likes Dragon Ball Minus? I mean this chapter seems to be universally panned throughout this forum and while I didn't consider it a magnum opus, I appreciated it for what it was trying to be which was (in my opinion) simple fan service that wasn't really meant to go into the psyche of the characters shown. Jaco was also a great simple story that came to sorely miss after finishing off the last volume of Dr. Slump just a couple months ago after starting to collect the volumes again after like 6 years of leaving what I already had to rot in my book shelf.
-Battle of Gods: It was a great movie that went back to its roots and expanded the world of Dragon Ball. Beerus and Whis are fun characters and it was just a generally fun film to watch. While the concept of Super Saiyan God was a bit stupid to me at first (and I still can't say I'm quite fond of the ritual), I'm glad it was taken in the direction that it was and I just have to say that it was actually quite alright. I'm just grateful it wasn't some Super Saiyan 3/4 hybrid with an ultra tanked up body and a flowing cape.
-Dragon Ball Full Color Editions: Please release the rest Viz... T-T Also, I did enjoy the little side notes Toriyama gave. While not really important, it was fun to learn some random Dragon Ball things and dig a bit further into the mind of our intrepid, forgetful author.
-Dragon Ball Kai: While I'm not the biggest fan of Dragon Ball Kai (especially the Boo arc), I feel that this was something definitely needed for those who watch the English dub like my cousin as the original dub wasn't really all that great (in my opinion of course).

Dragon Ball Xenoverse. The first thing Dragon Ball related that made me really happy in a long time, despite some of it's problems. Best thing ever from Modern DBZ.
Yo Son Goku and Friends. I liked this OVA. Beyond the dumb Tarble thing, I really did enjoy this OVA.
Dragon Ball Kai (Before Yamamoto Scandal, and definitely before the Boo stuff) A welcome recut to DBZ's horrible pacing. The english dub being actually good is a big bonus too. Too bad Kai 2: The Booining, is not turning out so great.
Dragon Ball Heroes. I like the animations and wacky stuff that comes from it. Whether cool or dumb, it's entertaining.
Character designs. I do like how everyone looks in the newer stuff.

Kanzenshuu, of course...
...I'm such a kiss-ass.
EDIT: When you refer to "modern DBZ", are we talking the last 5 years? 10 years? 15 years? When the Kanzenban and Dragon Boxes started coming out or when Dragon Ball Kai started on TV? I'll post a proper list tomorrow, since I have to get up early.

Dragon Ball Kai's Eng. dub. Mistakes aside, its still a godsend I thought wouldn't happen.

Re: What are the good things to come out of modern DBZ?
I don't know why everyone hates Super Saiyan Bardock so much. I think it's epic, Goku's father is the original Super Saiyan. I know a lot of purist fans like the idea of Bardock being just a useless thug who was destined to stage a meaningless revolt and die without accomplishing anything... but I don't get that. Isn't it better to have a character who's a badass?

He used to be interesting badass with motivation. Now he is just SSJ no. 1001 lowering the significance of Goku's transformation to the point of hyperinflation.
