Rare, Japanese PS2 Games?

Post by fps_anth » Sat Oct 28, 2006 2:42 pm

Ok, I'll start with the rarest of the rare:

Image

Only 1000 of these babies are out there. If you find a copy under $1000 USD, consider yourself lucky.

However, on my adventures of the Internets, I have come across some box arts that I have never seen before. For all I know, they could be fake. But they don't really look like it..

Image
I'm pretty sure that this is simply the PAL box art of Budokai 2. But the following ones I have NO IDEA.

Image
Seems to be JPN Budokai 3 with different box art. I know for a fact that there is no "alternate" version of DBZ3 with new characters or anything (like DBZ2V), but I have never seen this before.

Now, I've seen this before, but I haven't seen it on Amazon.co.jp, or any online store for that matter. This looks really cool, and considering that I don't have any Japanese PS2 games, this would be a great pick up.

And obviously:

T3H OMGZ SOO R3AL!

Anyways, my question is "Does anyone own any of these things?". Also "Where can I buy these (I haven't even seen these things on Yahoo Auctions Japan, save DBZ2V)?" Like I mentioned, I'd really like to get my hands on that box-set! :P

The last cover is the only one that seems to be fake. :?

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

I wish. The only European cover there is Budokai 2. The others I've never seen before.

That last one looks so real.

I love that Gogeta B3 one. And the B1-3 box. I like how each one has the Goku character model from the respective game.

Could someone please translate what Mr Satan is saying? :?:

Mabye those B3 covers (Gogeta and Mr Satan) were work-in-progresses? :?

The first one is a special release of Budokai 2, in Japan, right? I think that even had Cooler as an alternate oufit for Freeza.

Yeah it did. Also, I'm very sure that the Mr.Satan and Gogeta box art are not work in progresses. I think I have another image of them...I'll just search for it..

EDIT: Here it is:

Weren't the SSJ4 Gogeta and Mr. Satan covers reversible and for some sort of pre-order version?

I like how the "box-set" of Budokai games shows how the graphics enhanced Goku's portrayal sequel-after-sequel.

If I remember correctly the Gogeta/Mr. Satan covers are a freebie given away with an issue of V-Jump. Dragonball Z2V was a contest prize that included some extras, like stages and characters the original release didn't. It also came with all capsules unlocked and you did not have the option to save. One thing I'd like to learn more about is the Dragonball Z 2 cover with Chibi Buu... It's the same art as the PAL version, but has the Japanese logo... :/

It also says NTSC/J in the upper corner, so that means it was released or planed to be released in Japan. It's also missing the CERO rating, as well as the Bandai logo.

Good observation... Quite possibly another alternate cover given away by V-Jump perhaps? I remember seeing V-Jumps with a special "Jump Superstars" at my local Japanese bookstore, so it might be something V-Jump tends to give away for big games. Any one have any information on this subject?

I doubt it, the other alternate covers have the CERO rating and Bandai logo on them.

OMG THEY GOT DBZ SSJ4 GOKU'S PANTS RIGHT!!!

I never thought I'd see that on an officially licenced Dragon Ball product. I hated how in Budokai 3 Goku's pants magically change color when he went SSJ4.

OMFG, I just noticed that right now! Now all we need is Goku wearing his full Gi over his SSJ4 body. :P

Is it just me, or does it look like the box art for that set was done by Toriyama-sama himself?

Hmm...it looks more like the work of Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru who did designs for the series and the art on the Dragon Boxes. But what do I know, Toriyama himself said he can't tell the difference between his own work and Nakatsuru's.
