Why is reviving old topics forbidden?

Post by sangofe » Sun Mar 08, 2015 2:47 am

I've been wondering about this a few times. Sometimes, if topics go off topic, sure, they can just die, but other times, instead of opening a similar topic, why not revive old topics? Why is there a rule to not do that?

It depends on the context. We don't have a super-hard-lined rule.

If it's still somewhat recent enough, if the people that WERE discussing it are still around, if it's suddenly relevant again as-is... sure, we'll go with it.

If it's months-to-years old, if the people that were discussing it aren't even still active members, if there's another topic more recent that makes more sense to use, or if it's just completely confusing to see it pop up again out of nowhere... eh, we'd rather not.
