As someone who grew up in the ghetto, it's off-putting when I meet a proper individual who feels uncomfortable hearing cuss words because I am actually respectful and end up feeling forced to restrict myself in consideration to that person. I wouldn't say your vocabulary really displays your level of maturity. But having the awareness to know when it can offend someone else does.

That said... it's the internet! Just go to any Youtube comment section, and your jaw will likely drop. lol. No forum I've gone to has a censor for profanity unless it's used to directly insult someone else.

P.S.

"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super

Cursing should not be turn off since that's stupid and it makes the forum look stupid. It's not like we always drop F bombs in every post that we make. Last time I check, we can say any curse word expect for the N word.

I just put up a post in another forum and had Mr. Hercule Satan's first name censored and could not use Tenshinhan's other name, Tien.

As shown above. What the Hercules is going on?
Twilight: My library?! My library!! Do you have any idea how many books I had in there?!
Lord Tirek: How many, little princess?
Twilight: Over NINE THOUSAND!!!

As explained in the forum rules,
emphasis will be placed on the original Japanese version, as it is the single “global” version that can be enjoyed by all, and is the primary focus of Kanzenshuu as a whole. Furthermore, certain regional-specific spellings and quirks may automatically be adjusted by the forum to reflect this global perspective.
Among the "quirks" that are "automatically adjusted" are "Frieza," "Hercule," "Korin," "Tien," "Fasha," "Pikkon," "Turles," and maybe a few others ("Krillin" is okay though). The filter has been extensively discussed and it is unlikely to go away before the wiki is up. However, I don't find it extremely helpful to filter Hercule to "the H-word" - it used to be filtered to Mr. Satan, which made more sense.

For the sake of pedantry, though - "Hercule" isn't actually Mr. Satan's "first name," because his last name isn't actually Satan. "Mr. Satan" is a stage name, there's no first name there. His birth name is Mark, which IIRC was revealed an interview and was never mentioned in the actual story (but, again, it's not "Mark Satan," it's just "Mark."). The American anime changed Mr. Satan to Hercule for the broadcast version because they didn't want people cheering for "Satan" on kid's TV. That's why Hercule is filtered away - it's not the character's actual name - even the uncut American version calls him Satan.

edit: if you really want to, IIRC, you're allowed to use the censored name if you can properly escape the filter, like so

Code: Select all

Hercule
Last I checked there weren't rules against doing this.

^Well, actually Satan being the last name is true in the dub. He is referred to as Hercule Satan on multiple occasions, and his daughter is called Videl Satan a few times as well.

"This sucks. Make more."
