The problem with that is that the Wii U is a pain to port to. It would have cost more money and time to port it, and the port would likely pale in comparison to the other versions (excluding the Gamepad options, if they implemented them). It is probable that the money made off of a Wii U version wouldn't be worth the dev cost and time.
As much as I'd love a Wii U version, this is the most likely reason why there isn't one.

That's the problem with the "Dragon Ball" fanbase, it's too divided. There's "FUNimation fanboys", "Kai fanboys", "Ocean fanboys", "Japanese fanboys", we need to stop attacking each other and realize we're all fans of the same thing.

The thing is, would a Dragon Ball Z fighting game actually sell well on the Wii U?

As far as it selling on the Wii U, I think it would've sold fine if they'd advertize and market the Wii U version as well as they did the other versions.

Not all all. If it's not a Nintendo published game then it's gonna sell like crap. It's why most developers don't even bother making a Wii U version anymore because it's just not worth the time and effort.
Got my PS4 last thursday and I've been trying to get a copy of Xenoverse since then in the town I'm in. I called all the electronic stores repeatedly and they are always sold out!! Only for PS4 though. It's cray cray. I don't have the interwebs yet so I have to wait even longer!! I'm going nucking futs.

And that doesn't take into account Steam sales. Since there were 20,000 concurrent players on release day, I think we can assume at least 20,000 copies sold on that platform as well.

Really good sales all around. Seems like Xenoverse is gonna have a long shelf life.
But given the huge gap between what was sold on PS4/XB1 and PS3/XBOX360, I think it safe to say that Xenoverse may very well be the last Dragon Ball game on last generation consoles.

Famitsu has the PS4 version at selling 2,651 copies for the week.
Not bad US sales, that's almost 146,000 copies on consoles in US in just 5 days. With the Japanese sales at 150,000 it puts the games total sales at almost 295,000 just between those two markets.

The series' structure is already done so all they need to do is add to it which could be done by 2016.
In terms of the story,it looks like they already have at least an idea about it based on how XV ended.
Yeah that ending leaves you with a cliff hanger for sure...
I honestly want Dimps to take their time to work out all the kinks and make sure that Xenoverse is great a launch. Especially when Dimps have their hands full with Street Fighter V, which set to be released in 2016. I can honestly wait until 2017 for Xenoverse 2 if mean we'll get a game with much less issues.
