Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Resurrection 'F'"

I'm kinda torn on Buu not being in it.

On the one hand, Fat Buu is one of my favorite characters, and I want to see him tearing, stomping, and eating his way through Freeza's army.

On the other hand, the idea of him sleeping through the whole thing is classic Buu, and it would be even better if they cut from the fight to show one of Freeza's soldiers almost waking Buu up, and then backing off because Freeza told them not to anger Buu or something.

Majin Boo has no place in a movie about Freezer. Again, Namek crew first + bonus characters that already existed at the time.
Those who lack power or who were not part of the story back then may be discarded, they have no business in the concept of this movie.

And it's always been shown that Boo will only get involved if he or Mister Satan were directly attacked.
Even during Son Goku and His Friends Return, he just didn't care! Same for those who consider Movie 13 canon.

You make a damn good point Cold Skin. Although I would want guys like Majin Boo, Goten and Trunks to appear in the movie, for the premise of the plot, they don't really need to be in it. I mean, Freeza would have zero idea who Goten, Trunks and Yamcha were if he came across them.

The point is that the explanations to why they're out (Goten, Trunks and Boo in particular) just scream lazy and bad writing.

We still don't know what's going on with Goten and Trunks. We know that they haven't been told anything about the battle. We know that they can sense battle power. What happens after that is uncertain. We need more context before complaining.

Is the "Buu sleeping for five seconds" thing in the manga? When did this happen?

In a perfect world, I'd like to see everyone. But if we had to cut back on characters, I would boot Goten and Trunks off fairly quickly. Same with Majin Buu. Aside from Yamcha and Chaozu, I'm perfectly fine with the cast we have now.

Quit jumping on Toriyama for everything. The whole cast doesn't need to be in every movie. I seem to recall 13 other Dragon Ball Z films like that...

That's not the point. The point is that the explanations to why they're out (Goten, Trunks and Boo in particular) just scream lazy and bad writing. Not to mention that I'd rather choose characters with a bigger connection to the villain, and Trunks, Goten and Boo would provide some interesting interactions with Freeza unlike some characters like Tenshinhan and Roshi, who Freeza has never met before.

Good point, but at the same time, Goten and Trunks already had a whole movie basically starring them in Yo!. Personally I think Tien and Roshi and Bulma deserve this.

I'm perfectly fine with not all the characters showing up, but I'd just like a better reasoning other than Tien saying "he's too weak". I understand Yamcha isn't as strong as Tien or Krillin, but he'd be able to hold his own if they're including Roshi (which I love). Won't stop me from enjoying the movie, but it's just a nitpick of mine.

Of course we don't know, but we still have the right to complain if we think something is stupid. If they do end up being in the movie, well then, good.

Agreed on all accounts. Buu sleeping can either be an excuse to not have him in the film because they couldn't fit him, or it could be a purposeful setup to a hilarious gag.

I don't have any problem with Goten, Trunks, or Buu not being in this. I've never liked the two kids, and Buu wouldn't add much anyway. It's good that instead of them, two guys who didn't get much screen time in the latter years of DBZ - Roshi and T­­ien - as well as a new character are getting time to shine. We talk all the time about how much the humans are never given any time to shine because of the Saiyans, but now we're getting out the pitchforks over Goten and Trunks?

Gohan: We haven't told this to Trunks and Goten by order of Bulma. They can go too far, you know.

Well this is dissapointing and doesn't even make sense. When they sense the huge ki spikes they would fly to the scene, who would stop them. And now Majin Buu is sleeping?

As for some of you pointing out that Majin Buu only sleeps for seconds at a time this time it may be hibernation

How did Bibidi make Majin Buu? What process was there, what were Buu’s ingredients, etc…

Though in the manga Kaiōshin said that Bibidi made him, the truth is that one called “Buu” was not actually created by Bididi, but has existed since time immemorial. He cycled between rampages and long hibernation. During numerous iterations of this cycle, he absorbed the evil elements of mankind, becoming steadily more violent. Bibidi merely knew the means of calling Buu from out of his long slumber. Since the current Buu is a slightly different life-form due to the changes brought about when the evil Buu was expelled, it’s not known whether he’ll still go into long hibernation.

But due to this some potentially interesting and funny character intractions will be missed. Such as everyone's favourite Freeza getting Goten and Trunks mixed up with Goku and Future Trunks and asking why they've shrunk.
Also Freeza making fun of Fat Buu's appearence and saying something to the effect of "I can't believe my father wanted me to beware of this fat oaf. Ho ho ho!"

When it was said that Buu is "sleeping" in this film, my first thought was more akin to a brief hibernation that he might have to go through every now and then. Was I the only one?

Even though Goten and Trunks can sense battle power that may not be a plot point issue because:
Freeza may had a godly ki now which can't be sensed a la Beerus on Kaio's planet in BOG
Freeza's minions may have such low ki it doesn't register
Freeza and his henchmen may now be able to suppress their battle power or have knew technology that masks it
Gotten and Trunks may be off on another planet


The possibilities are endless

Goten and Trunks technically have been in three Dragon Ball Z movies where they played they role of either protagonists or deuteragonists, Broly Second Coming, Bio-Broly and Fusion Reborn.

It seems this film is really cutting corners to be as badass as possible. Out with Goten and Trunks being silly, in with Tien and Master Roshi kicking ass. Coupled with the darker trailer, I'm actually kind of worried about the humor in this film. IIRC the script was originally described as "terribly funny" or something like that, but that doesn't seem to be the current tone. Anyone else share my worries?

Again, it's possible that Yamcha will listen when told not to participate, but Kame Sennin will do what he wants (even if his voice actor implied he will quickly pay the price), I'm sure he would even show off against a frightening muscle mass like Broly.

And who knows if Boo doesn't need to sleep more since he lost a huge amount of power when creating the Evil Boo, becoming extremely weak compared to what he was.
Also, he may not NEED sleep but do it for pleasure, like many people on Earth who like to sleep more than they need.
