It's even more irrelevant to me now that there's plenty of new material that erase it from having to be acknowledged as canon and satisfy the "New Dragon Ball" fix.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

And it's still Goku Time. "Oh no we're completely helpless against these Saiyans until GOKUUUUUUU shows up". "Oh no the Ginyus are kicking our asses, GOKUUUU come and save us fast!" "Freeza's so strong, hurry and heal already GOKUUUU". "Guys the problems with the Androids and Cell will surely be fixed once GOKUUUU wakes up".

It's so easy to do this with several points in the Z portion of the series that it hurts. They're always waiting on Goku, banking on him to save the day. Goku lost in BoG. Seems like even he wasn't a gun. Judging from the trailers so far, Vegeta seems to be more of a gun than Goku.
Rocketman wrote:Is there anything like the fight vs Vegeta in the post-Z era? No. Piccolo vs 17? No. Hell, Gotenks vs Super Buu? No.
No, and I agree that it would be nice if we got more. But that doesn't make those fights the norm.

"Gohan was defeated both times" and "only Goku has the chance to shine as a character and fighter" are not logically equivalent.

Then Goku does show up, and Vegeta completely wrecks him. Goku spent the last half of that fight crumpled in a whimpering corner, needing the others to save him.
"Oh no the Ginyus are kicking our asses, GOKUUUU come and save us fast!"
Then Goku does show up, and Ginyu steals his body and Goku has to be rescued by the others.
"Guys the problems with the Androids and Cell will surely be fixed once GOKUUUU wakes up".
Then Goku does show up, and he goes "nope, can't do it!".

The only fight in Z anything like the post-Z stuff is the battle with Freeza.

Nah, it's the same old crap the movies used - Goku's in a pickle, Vegeta pops up for one badass moment then gets wrecked.

By themselves, no, but alongside "everybody gets chumped instantly while Goku becomes a god and the enemy slobbers all over how ~awesome~ he is"...

What characters would you like to see receive more spotlight than?

So, you know for a fact that Vegeta will lose only for Goku to come back and win? No, you're being rather presumptuous.

Goku lost, something that Toei movies tended not to do. Usually Goku Toei-Punched the villain by the end and won in what movies he was in (normally figuratively, but quite literally in Movie 13).

Toriyama showed throughout the series that he's not afraid to let Goku lose on occasion, so I don't know why you assume the movie will be the Goku show and that Goku will win.

There's literally zero evidence for that.

In Battle of Gods, Goku got chumped instantly before anyone else. Then everyone else followed suit, with Vegeta holding his own far better than Goku did initially (which impressed Beerus). Then Goku shows up, gets a power up that even he thinks he is stupidly unworthy of, and then still loses.

What a bad times to be a Son Gohan fan. Well, I think this is a bad time to be fan of a major character. Though even Bardock didn't escape from those amount of madness. :|

It ain't just Gohan...he has sidecharacteridis. A terrible disease some characters pick up and become terribly useless. People such as Peach, Luigi, Tails, Yugi (on his own show no less), etc all fall for this disease. Suddenly people who show they can do something, are swept aside for someone else...or they suddenly they can't do jack shit. I mourn for these characters. Poor guys deserve more than the shit they get.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!
