Re: Xenoverse Reviews
I found Kanzenshuu's very own podcast episode on Xenoverse informative enough. It's not exactly a review, more like first impressions, but I thought I'd link to it anyway.
Usually goes by "Kevtrev" elsewhere online.
Draws comics that may or may not have been blatantly inspired by Akira Toriyama's manga.

Re: Xenoverse Reviews
Just gathered pretty much all the reviews from noteworthy publications. I can update as more come in.
Push Square - 8/10
"Sadly, if you've been holding out for a more traditional Dragon Ball fighter, Dragon Ball XenoVerse isn't it. It is, however, a well realised and refreshing take on Akira Toriyama's universe, which allows fans to appreciate the source material from a whole new angle. Accessible, bombastic combat, entirely customisable characters, and some fantastic online functionality give the game a unique identity, and arguably make it one of the most ambitious licensed titles that we've seen in years."
God is a Geek - 6/10
"At this point in time, it is not unreasonable to expect spectacular, fully destructible environments. When playing a Dragon Ball game, one expects to be able to punch someone through a mountain, drive foes deep into the earth leaving an epic crater, and generally smash things to smithereens. The level of damage you are actually able to inflict is pretty underwhelming. Soaring through the skies or diving beneath the surface of the water is thrilling, seeing the way your opponents grimace when you beat them, or cackle after laying the smack down on you, is excellent. But this is far from being everything a fully interactive Dragon Ball Z battle could and should be in 2015."
Xbox Achievements/PlayStation Trophies - 55/100
"A love letter to fans, Dragon Ball Xenoverse features almost every character, masses of content and the trademark vibrant and frenetic art style. Unfortunately, it's not really much fun to play, succeeding in being something of a repetitious slog. A game for the Dragon Ball purists, Xenoverse is unlikely to appeal to anyone else."
Heavy - 8.75/10
"Dragon Ball Xenoverse is one of the better franchise fighters to come out in a very long time. It’s immersive story mode leads to a more fulfilling experience that’s packed with interesting scenarios and intense battles. The much improved character customization mode, wealth of offline/online missions, beautiful graphics and familiar cast makes this fighter hard to beat. While we lament the lack of several missing fighters and the option to pick other modes from the main menu, these factors don’t hurt the overall experience of this great anime fighter."
PlayStation LifeStyle - 7/10
"So, while fans of the series will find a great deal of content to keep them entrenched into the world of Dragon Ball, anyone who hasn’t had a history with the seasoned mechanics will undoubtedly find themselves button mashing their way through the confusion and hoping for the best until things make sense. While anyone who doesn’t know anything about the history of the series, or just been away from it for some time, will be completely in the dark through most of the experience, as it does rely wholeheartedly on your understanding of who is who, but, also given that the story is far from the reason anyone is going to want to play this, I guess that doesn’t matter all that much either way. "
4 Geeks Like You - 8/10
"I never imagined that any Dragon Ball Z game coming after the mess we got with Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z could earn a spot next to the top games in the series. I mean, even when I received my copy, I still thought to myself that I might have to walk away from this during the following week.
I can say with 100% certainty that Dragon Ball Xenoverse is a must have for any Dragon Ball Z gamers out here. The game isn’t without fault, but I believe that if Dimps fixes the problems with Xenoverse & expand on making the battlefields expansive & the fights more engaging, the next possible game to come from the Xenoverse series could end up close to perfect."
TechRaptor - 8/10
"Dragon Ball Xenoverse is a game that manages to breath some fresh life into the retold story of Dragon Ball Z by allowing you as a player to create an original character and fight along side the Z fighters in some of their greatest fights. Mixing in RPG, customization and even some MMO elements the player is able to custom tailor their own character to their different fighting style and show off their creation to the world."
This is Xbox - 70/100
"If you’re a Dragon Ball fan you’ll love being able to create your own character, fight alongside iconic Dragon Ball characters (both good and evil) and even become their student. The story is enjoyable; albeit limited and the MMO and RPG elements will keep those that are happy to grind for hours more than entertained. For the rest of us there’s an enjoyable but limited beat ‘em up that might just get you hooked enough that you’ll soon be on eBay looking for a copy of Dragon Ball Z."
Worlds Factory - 78/100
"A unique storyline, lovely graphics, and intense but sometimes awkward battles make for a great Dragon Ball game, even though I can see its flaws. Getting used to battles was tough, but rewarding and now my Saiyan Cabbage almost feels like a true Dragon Ball character.
While this is a game I wouldn't recommend to all fighting game fans, I would definitely suggest it to everyone who enjoyed the Dragon Ball anime and manga. If you ever wanted to feel truly a part of Goku’s world, this is the closest we’ve ever been able to get. A beautiful, yet flawed game that is hugely charming despite never feeling perfect."
IGN - 6.7/10
On the surface, Dragon Ball XenoVerse seems like a great game for someone like me who enjoys anime, fighting, and role-playing games. Customizing my own character’s equipment and move pool is fantastic...but it’s hard to get excited when combat feels hollow, especially for a franchise all about heroes stronger than Superman. The unique story features a nice change of pace from the anime’s sagas, but unfair missions left me annoyed. Considering how boring the competitive multiplayer is, I found cooperative Parallel Quests to be the best way to take the action online.

Kotaku - Should You Play It?!: Go For It!
Dragon Ball Xenoverse puts a fresh coat of paint on an aging story. More importantly than that, however, Xenoverse is a fun, competent fighter, even if it isn't a very technical one. For DBZ fans, it's an absolute must, and for everyone else, give it a shot. You might just find a reason to watch the world's most famous anime.
The Guardian - 3/5
Xenoverse proves itself a competent fighter. Gloriously destructible arenas, speedy confrontations and a customisable array of attacks add surprise to encounters, while the roster offers a fantastic who’s-who of unlockable characters. Shame the restrictive hubworld and slow intro may deter players who just want a few quick fights.
Hardcore Gamer - 3.5/5
Dragon Ball Xenoverse has its share of flaws, many of which have plagued DBZ games for nearly a decade, but it also fixes nearly all of the problems of its predecessor. The create-a-character feature is a rich pool of choices, filled with expansive combat options and a seamless integration into the story. The controls, while still sketchy, offer a ton of fluidity and variety in how you take on enemies. The combos you can build are so layered that you’ll be bouncing enemies around the map in no time. The multiplayer suite is completely unintrusive as well; you’ll never feel like Xenoverse was only made for online play thanks to plentiful, albeit rather repetitive, missions. Still, the repeatedly offending camera remains a huge issue, and I feel like the omission of some very memorable moments in DBZ lore are noticeable. But as a recovery from Battle of Z, it shines. It won’t set the world on fire, but Dragon Ball Xenoverse is one of the best DBZ games in a long time.
CrunchyRoll - No Score (Positive overall)
+ Excellent story and expansion to the Z Universe + Fun and flexible character creation system + Awesome gameplay we expect from Budokai titles + Huge number of single and multiplayer gametypes - Rough and uneven power curve - Hit and miss or outright abusive AI - Can get a bit grindy even with all the gametypes
The Sixth Axis - 6/10
Fans of previous Dragon Ball games will no doubt have a field day with XenoVerse. Aside from the immediate sense of familiarity, it has a shedload of content to wade through, including a trove of iconic items and clothing that can be used to customise your own unique character. Online play is also quite the boon, allowing you to saddle up with friends in a Monster Hunter kind of way. Inevitably, however, there will be those who simply don’t see the appeal of XenoVerse’s core gameplay, and it ultimately grates as it becomes repetitive no matter how much you enjoy it at first.
Techno Buffalo - No Score - Mostly Positive
Dragon Ball Xenoverse is a light-hearted fighting game that will serve fans of the anime, but the customizable avatar gives it that extra edge to set it apart as “more than just another licensed game.”
Sure, why not? Pick it up today if you like.
Co-Optimus - 3/5
Since I’m a fan, I still kind of like Dragon Ball Xenoverse, but there’s no way I would recommend this game to anyone unless they were at the very least a casual watcher of the series. There’s not enough story to entertain someone new, and the gameplay is average at best. Real fans of Dragon Ball Z will enjoy landing super moves on their opponents, gathering Dragon Balls, and leveling their created character into a Z-Warrior powerhouse.
...That look a long time. I should probably go and do my job and actually write my own review of this game. Deadlines approaching.

I still hope that Angry Joe will do a full review of the game. He seems to enjoy it while admitting that the game is flawed.

Glad to see this game is getting some good reception. I seriously haven't enjoyed a DB game like this since the PS2-era.

When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.
