Vegeta and Piccolo

Post by chessercizes » Fri Nov 10, 2006 11:37 pm

Hi everyone!

Ok, I just wanted to voice my opinion about something. I always thought that Goku understood Vegeta better than anyone in the series. I don't know why, but it always seemed like that to me. Maybe because they were both saiyans so he understood his feelings to fight, but now I think that Piccolo actually understood Vegeta the best.

Piccolo went through a lot of the same character changes as Vegeta went through, (basically going evil to good) and he also at one point had the single objective of destroying Goku. Also, like after Cell is defeated, Piccolo is the one who stays behind and talks to Vegeta. And when Vegeta knocks out Trunks and Goten, Piccolo doesn't jump to crazy conclusions.

Thats just my $0.02. Am I just making up stuff, or is this thread pointless, or what.

Thanks

-Parth

Yeah you make a good point, Goku and Vegeta are both pure saiyans, true enough. But Goku will probably never understand how much it takes to change from acting on selfish impulse, to do what's right for everyone you care about. Piccolo had to change rather quickly and it's lucky he did, or a lot of bad thing could've happened if he had not when the Saiyajin's arrived. With Vegeta however, it still took him a long time to finally get rid of his selfish instincts, but still he managed to do it. Piccolo said himself that he went the exact same thing he went through. So yeah, I'd go with it kinda being a draw, just because Vegeta still thinks Piccolo is inferior to him.

I think so too. I also love the conversation they had at the end of episode 237, even though they mostly stared at eachother.

I always thought the interaction betweel Piccolo and Vegeta was interesting.

Especially since they both aren't exactly friendly guys. At least when it comes to acting buddy-like towards anybody else.

Well out of all of the characters in Z, Vegeta and Piccolo are the most alike. First off, their transition from villian to hero worked the same way. Second, besides Gohan, Vegeta and Piccolo are the only ones who surpass Goku for a period of time on seperate occassions. Last, they actually look a bit a like (facial structure). Okay, I only had two decent things to list, but they do look a bit a like; I'm not going insane right..

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.

This is a good question. I love their small interactions. This Girl (I think) made a fan comic about it. I know it's only fan made but I think it really sums it up and it's quite heartwarming actualy.

Wow DBZ MAN, even though the anime touched on this a bit I never saw that kind of connection between Piccolo and Vegeta. Both sacrifices were in the same vein, interesting... I forgot to mention the movie seven ending (especially for the FUNi dub) :).

I just wish Piccolo and Vegeta would've fought each other at least ONCE in Dragon Ball Z or GT. What a fight that would've been. And I can remember waiting for them to go at it while I was watching both series' for the first time. Vegeta was always talking shit to Piccolo. And even though Vegeta's strength was most likely superior to Piccolo's, Piccolo's intellectual fighting skills/strategies would've been enough to outwit him, in my opinion.

(I'll just throw this in there) if you want a possible fight with Vegeta and Piccolo, play Budokai 3, in Majin Vegeta's level when he's looking to fight Goku, go to the "mountains" as it says on the side scroll thingy, and descend, then you and Piccolo fight, it's pretty damn awesome.

They nearly fought after Trunks left the first time. That would've been cool. 8)

They were about to go at it when Piccolo first arrived on Namek. He pretty much made it clear that after Freeza it would be Vegeta's turn.

Oh yeah that's right! Piccolo had fused with Nail and was about to fight Freeza but Vegeta wanted a turn, so Piccolo said they could fight afterward.... or something like that anyway.

It's a shame they didn't fight (or at least show if they did) after Namek, since that would have been about the last time they were even enough. One could argue they were kinda close in the Android Saga after Piccolo fused with Kami, but they would have been too busy to fight eachother.

Maybe they could train in the Room of Spirit and Time..? *thinking something completely different*

I reckon they came real close to fighting after they were transported back to earth via Namek's Dragon Ball's, Vegeta was making all this crap about taking over the world and such, you could see Piccolo beginning to crack.

That was great.

I always found the Vegeta and Piccolo underlying relationship of rilvary/respect to be one of the highlights of the series.

That fan comic was great... the parallels between Vegeta and Piccolo are striking. I'm actually surprised that Akira Toryiama did not write about it although I'm sure the theme of "enemy becoming a friend" is obvious to all throughout the Dragonball saga.

Oh and I too would have loved to see Piccolo and Vegeta go at it! 8) Piccolo rocks! 8)

You know, I actually thought Piccolo was going to do something to Vegeta when he knocked out Trunks and Goten. The first time I saw that episode I really thought something was about to go down between them.
