This topic was about Daisuke Nishio and this other Toei Property he worked on called Pretty Cure. But decided its a really interesting topic if we expand our focus to DBZ as well.
Recently, in a tumblr post about the inception of Precure, it was revealed that the decision of it having more Physical action than say, Sailor Moon was made not only by the Producer Takashi Washio but ALSO supported by DBZ director Daisuke Nishio who felt girls loved action too and that it wasnt a "Gendered thing" and that they too "Loved to Rampage". While I doubt he used such a Tumblr like phrasing the post came with quotes and sources for the facts presented.
While Precure always had lots of action, people assumed it was to appeal to boys or otaku. We never had someone say something like that. Also it has gorgeous animation because Animators love cute girls and animating them. But that's beside the point
Now,I want to reach out to all the ladies here on Kanzenshuu and ask what they loved about DBZ. People claim its "Hot Muscled Guys" they can "Ship" with each other. I really think Mr Nishio was right on the money. Girls DEFINITELY can love action too. But what were your reasons specifically. It can be just "Action, duh" but I dont want to assume without you telling me your personal experience

Since Kai started premiering on Toonami, I've been trying to get my girlfriend into the series. She ended up taking a liking to it and is skipping ahead of Toonami and watching the rest online. Speaking from her perspective, it seems to me like she's in it more for the interesting characters, humor, and story rather than fights, although when I asked she did say that she enjoys the fights.

Gohan deserves it.

I love the ridiculous characters and watching them interact. I love watching them grow up and have character development. I like the fights too(especially the more physical fights we saw early on), but I wouldn't be as interested in them if I wasn't interested in the characters.

I don't know why women wouldn't like action shows. It seems like a holdover from ancient ideas about women fainting at the sight of blood, or being too delicate for sports and manual labor.
But I don't think the reasons I like Dragon Ball are much different from the reasons most men like it. I enjoy the action, the comedy, the drama, the colorful characters, the interesting designs... Mostly I just love the story overall. And as a nerd, I'm fascinated by the scope of such a lengthy series with a huge world and giant cast. I love to pick apart and analyze all the little details.
