Oh wow, he looks the best he has ever looked. Which is surprising considering I hate most of Xenoverse's models.

Well not really, Trunks and Goten used to spar, train with their elders and even went in the RoSaT,and they still need to transform to be above Freeza in his true (base) form. Freeza on the other hand has never trained or had a true transformation.
I'm talking about beginning of Buu arc Goten and Trunks, they had about as much 'training' as Freeza as they all had vague sparring sessions.
Heck Goten and Trunks didn't know any techniques and Goten couldn't even fly. Yet their base forms could at least challenge 50% Freeza while their SSJ forms could stomp him. Goten and Trunks are bigger prodiges than Freeza if they trained seriously for 4 months surely you'd be fine with Gotenks stomping Whis and Beerus with ease.
Well no, I don't think Goten and Trunks were that powerful, and I'm sure they trained to some extent. I put Goku in BOG at around 70% Freeza and in my eyes even after training in the ROSAT, with their elders and with each other they still couldn't come close to matching Goku. I'm sure they came close to covering 4 months in that period. And the training in the ROSAT was serious.

End of the day Toriyama decided Freeza is the biggest prodigy. At the minute it's as simple as that.

A lot of people called this. DLC3 being unknown so far and the movie coming out the same spring really hinted at this. Makes too much sense from marketing point of view.

The internet has been a huge part of my existence for a long time, but only since about middle school (before that, CD-ROMs were where it was at). I didn't use text messaging until living in Japan more or less required it to keep in touch with acquaintances.

With that in mind... I don't think it's a generational issue so much as it is a regional one. Even younger kids in Japan who like DBZ and its endless power-ups more, still don't have anything against the broader comedy of the earlier parts of the story. That seems to be more-or-less exclusive to Western (and particularly Anglophone) fandom.

this presumes that Frieza's now mostly mechanical body has the same potential as his old one. Could easily be a Darth Vader situation.

There's also the possibility that Golden Frieza massively powered up Frieza's base form the same way SSJG powered up base Goku

Everyone is discussing about the feasibility of Freeza's training and I'm just sitting here wondering if we are going to have pregnant Bulma at the end of the movie. :shifty:

If I may, I think the dub work we originally got had a lot to do with that, coupled with missing an entire third of the story. Things made less sense, character backstories were unknown or not detailed, lines were radically altered so what comedy there was were really bad attempts at Westernized humor that people thought kids would like more...

Seems that way to me at least.

I'm actually very interested in the more, pardon the pun, "human" aspects of things as well. There's an entire army being fought, we have some interesting comments from Miki Itō and Mayumi Tanaka regarding Krillin's family, we have the potential to see Piccolo interacting with Gohan's daughter, we have Gohan being a father and seeing how that might affect him or his motivations, Bulma's likely pregnant already...

Frankly I almost care about all that more than the actual Freeza fight.

What I'm most hyped for in this movie is more info on Whis and Beerus, frankly.

That bothered me about Vegeta too. Freeza and his elites weren't created at the time so it makes it funny that Vegeta was going on about being the strongest. There wasn't even a point for Freeza to mention Buu or Beerus and raise this question of how he knew them. It could've been something like...

Freeza: I will have my revenge!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorbet: But the Saiyan Goku has improved greatly since you last fought him!
Freeza: I have no idea how strong he is because I can't sense energy but I am confident I can surpass him in four months!

Almost the same dialogue without mentioning Buu or Beerus.
Indeed, Frieza doesn't make any sense now. Why he even mentioned Buu or Beerus besides Toriyama wanting to connect everything without any need once again?

As for now, indeed, Freeza may be some kind of a test, or even part of a plan of a some new villain, who may be (or may be not) related to Whis in some way.
If Freeza was meant as a test that would be funny if another version of Cell is the next one :P. This version of Cell has DNA from Beerus, Whis, SSJ God Goku, Vegeta, Golden Freeza, Mr. Buu, etc.
I hope he wouldn't be gold though =D Like seriously (though ironically enough him being gold would make a lot more sense than Frieza, because he possesses genes of two saiyans)

ACCloud wrote: As has been previously explained, Goku has now taken God power into his body, so he (seemingly) no longer needs to transform. Toriyama spoke about cutting down on transformations, so it seems like that's the way things are going. Here's the quote again for reference:

"After the fight with Beerus, Goku realized that mastering his normal state and Super Saiyan would raise his level more and sap less strength, so I think he probably won’t become Super Saiyan 2 or 3 any more." (http://www.kanzenshuu.com/translations/ ... mysteries/)

Also, your comments about popularity are an absolute fallacy. Don't forget, Dragon Ball was over halfway complete when Super Saiyan was introduced. The series was incredibly popular before that, and I have never seen anything to indicate that Super Saiyan or any other transformation re-defined that popularity. Toei and Funimation certainly loved using Super Saiyan in marketing, but that's about it.

Personally, I'm fine with cutting down on the transformations. I'd like to see a bit more of Super Saiyan God, but I don't need tons of new transformations (or the repetition of old ones - I've seen enough throughout the series).
Yes but how are you going to possibly prove that? We need feats not speculating opinions to assume that base goku no longer needs to transform. For me and majority of viewers we already seen it clear that in the BOG base goku wasent able to keep up with beerus, and he got quickly destroyed. Thats why when he transformed into a super saiyan he was doing much better in a fight. And maybe you fail to realize this but SSJ is a power multiplier based off your base form IT DOES NOT CAP YOUR POWERLEVEL No matter how strong goku's normal state gets your SSJ will be 50 times than you.
My Intelligence level is over 9000!!!

These ones... I am not sure. If you mean that all the prominents Saiyans, then sure. But there still are those guys such as original Super Saiyan, and original Super Saiyan God, who we know nothing about. They could very well be stronger than most of humans even without transformations, even the strongest ones.

The basic idea being that Majin Buu was of legendary power considering he rampaged across the entire universe before being sealed away on some then-nameless rock. It's quite possible that he could devise an approximation of that level of power from tales he may have heard.

But we're assuming the manga dialogue is complete and not truncated, which it undoubtedly is.

Also: Beerus mentioned Freeza in the last movie, the two have apparently interacted. It's not like that comes out of nowhere.
