But you're relying on an assumption there to form the basis for your distinction. We don't know how old Freeza is supposed to be. Naturally he's older than Broly, but we don't know how much older, which makes the base from which we can compare their growth entirely speculative. As for Broly's strength, I don't think that if I were to refer to him as a sort of mutant that it would be the first time for him to be referred to as such, but I could be wrong. In any case, he always seemed like a crazy stupid mutant to me.Skar wrote:Freeza is most likely hundreds of years old while Broly was only 30 at the time.
Most of those seem to have explanations provided, as does Freeza's gains here. I'll bring up the Saiyan zenkais again. The fact they even exist is contrived as hell, no less contrived than anything you brought up, or Freeza being a mutant. So no, I don't need to look to fanfiction.net to find shit that crazy, I can just look inside of Toriyama's manga. Ultimately it seems that it is going to come down to the execution of the story in which these contrived plot devices exist. If you like the story, these shouldn't bother you that much; if you don't like the story, they're naturally going to bother you more, and that's fine. But the point is, Toriyama's no stranger to contrived asspulls, so contrived asspulls is not a sufficient condition for "fanfiction tier", unless we're considering large chunks of the manga to be such. And I am heavily under the impression that this is not the intended implication.Skar wrote:In DBM, Broly's power slowly increased over the span of a few decades until he was in the same leagues as Vegetto. In DBM, Gast is a Namek who is made up of over 100 Nameks and is SSJ1 to SSJ2 Vegetto tier after many years of training. Rigor is another prodigy Saiyan who after many decades of training was slightly stronger than SSJ4 Gogeta. Ize is Freeza's son in Young Jiji's AF and he's apparently SSJ4 tier. Some of these I don't agree with and some I think could work but the point is these characters and many other OCs are heavily criticized for outdoing the canon characters when it comes to training. Freeza going from 120 million to SSJ God tier in four months is even more farfetched than anything ever seen in any above average fan comics. Something that crazy is only found in the "backpages" of fanfiction.net. The kind of fanfic that you would never recommend or even finish the first chapter.
Granted you're also free to disagree about the zenkais being contrived asspulls, whilst thinking that all of the stuff in these fanfictions (as well as Freeza's mutant-ness caused gains) are, and while I'll maintain that to do such is to be incredibly internally inconsistent, that's a topic for another thread.
I hope there is as well. But even if there isn't, it would be far from the first time a humongous plot-convenient asspull powerup was made in the franchise, so it won't really bother me.Skar wrote:I really hope there's more to Freeza's power-up than him just being a great prodigy and it involves some outside help like SSJ God did.
