Scanned out of the December 2006 Electronic Gaming Monthly magazine. Sorry the scan is so large, but I wanted to give the best viewing possible for it. Note that EGM is pretty opinionated, so you may or may not agree with what they say.

Shame the Wii costs so much (and I gotta do a lot of thinking before I even decide which or if to buy new gaming hardware) as I'm intregued by the challenge of having to actually throw physical punches 'n such on the Wii version of the game.
On hiatus.

It's looking good, I can’t wait until I get my copy, or my Wii for that matter.

I'm going to go without the essentials again aren't I...

No no, punching and kicking still happens via buttons. It's the special moves that go via gestures.

Sound's like fun. If I manage to pick up the Wii, I'll be getting this and Zelda. :D

A little off-topic, but I haven't read EGM in awhile. I like the new format for the reviews.

Isn't Wii the cheapest 'next gen' console? Like, everywhere? And it can play all your Gamecube games, so by the library is already quite large.

Anyway, didn't like review too much. But that doesn't surprise. Some of there reason's for the average score seem a bit odd (possible embarrassment as you perform moves, for example, or deep fighting system). I don't like EGM at all anyway. Now, if this was a GamesTM review, or from Insert Credit, maybe then it would hold more water.
... Maybe later.

Did you notice that the one of the editors left a subtle note about being a fan of the series? Its a smart move for a couple of reasons. First of all, if you didn't know the series and saw that the person reviewing it loved it, then you wouldn't take the review so seriously because a fanboy was just hyping it up. On the other hand, because there was a small note about liking being able to do the spirit bomb, it shows that a fan will know what to look for and it really connects with DragonBall fandom.

I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

In my opinion, EGM tends to be a bit too harsh on games. Especially anime based ones. (they gave a FMA one a 5) but whatever....
(off topic a bit) I haven't gotten my issue yet. T_T
O yea......got my Wii...

Lol he called it a " Spirit Ball" and surely no one throws fireballs at all. they throw Ki attacks :D I'm also wondering if they played this in story mode at all, have they got proper cut scenes/story in yet? Will it make an once of sense to casual fans or even younger fans who might just be starting on Z after watching DB?
All this review says is you dance around a lot. XD

The FMA review was justified. >_> This is actually a good review as DBZ games haven't seen that many reviews that weren't plagued with criticisms.

After Budokai 2 they stopped reviewing DBZ games, so I bet they only reviewed NEO because its a Wii launch title.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but Nintendo Power did their Wii review had two reviews: (9.0) For a DragonBall Z fan and (6.0) for everyone else. Do non-dragonball fans really see these games as fodder?

Well, at least that was on topic. Well generally if it's from non-dragonball's they lie all the time anyway. :P (j/k)

This game is almost impossible to play with the Wii remote and nunchuck. You'd almsot HAVE TO play with the classic controller. I kept whipping my face with the wire that connects the nunchuck to the Wii remote.

No way man, I can't go back to the classic controller. I learned how to transform, dash, do all specials, ect.
PLAY B3YOND.

Of course.

I still like Super Butoden 2 the best.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

Now that's old school EGM right there. I remember him praising Final Bout.

No way man, this controller setup is much better than the PS2/GC/Classic. :P

Hanging out with Sheng Long.

I've still got my pages of their Super Butoden 3 preview, quite possibly my first exposure to the series. Where they talk about Kuririn & #18's son.
