I wouldn't word it as harshly personally, but in at least some context i agree. It's like I said in my last post: there needs to be some ending relevance or tie in of some kind, not just a story for the sake of a story. It's random.Low Tone G wrote:My point is that this Freeza movie was completely useless, if Toriyama really wanted to continue the story in the future and being that Toriyama likes Freeza(because he is a being that incorporates his worst fears), I'd say that he just wanted to close the story with his ultimate defeat. I'm still waiting for the summary, but the reason that I want to watch the film is to see Beerus and Whis once again, as them being indeed entertaining characters.sintzu wrote:The surprises don't have to be at the end so until we know all the details we can't say that there wasn't any hints to new stories and even if there wasn't we still have Whis and the 12 universes to explore.Low Tone G wrote:This film will end without any surprise, without any base to go on with.

Dragon Ball has never had any huge, brilliant plot twists or foreshadowing or anything like that. It has always followed a pretty simple formula as does this movie. I'm not sure what any of you were expecting to be quite honest here.

Freeza not even treated as threat just training for Goku and Vegeta.bubibartra wrote:The argument is simple: all this training, simple training.
Freezer is a lesson for Goku, Goku looks like all die to learn to be merciful. Goku then kill Friezzer with treachery and cheating. Interesting,

Fucking pitiful, remember when Nakao said the most important thing was not to ruin Freeza's image?

Exactly, this is classic Dragon Ball Z, and I cannot wait to see it whenever that may be, come on MangaUK license this already!saunasolmu wrote:Dragon Ball has never had any huge, brilliant plot twists or foreshadowing or anything like that. We are you getting that it was a training session for Goku and Vegeta? If you are talking Kei17's comment, then wasn't that just his interpretation? Freeza knocked down Goku and blew up Earth, if it weren't for Whis then Freeza would have had the perfect revenge, hardly ruined his image at all.SSJGFrieza wrote:Freeza not even treated as threat just training for Goku and Vegeta.bubibartra wrote:The argument is simple: all this training, simple training.

The follow up to BoG not being a generic 90s Toei DB movie? BoG broke that formula and did a lot of world building, this pretty much does jack shit and if we're only getting one movie every two years, jack shit but action isn't good enough.saunasolmu wrote:Dragon Ball has never had any huge, brilliant plot twists or foreshadowing or anything like that. When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

Battle of Gods story was already pitifully weak so this one not having much of a story either isn't really a disadvantage compared to it.
The story can't be any worse than what the last movie was.
If this movie has action scenes instead of karaoke singing Vegeta and Gohan's goofy antics that's all a big plus story me.

I think the problem here, is that BOG was a different form of DB movie. Whether good different or bad different,
it was a new cup of tea. This is more inline with the 90's movies, and i think people expected to be served something entirely different once again IMO.

BoGs actually had a cliffhanger that could open up to an exceptional storyline in the 12 Universe aspect, but RoF did absolutely nothing to build on that concept and that's very disappointing.

... Oh my gosh. You've seriously got to be joking... That is like, literally the worst possible ending. No post-battle interaction with any other characters? That is just... weird. And sad.kei17 wrote:The movie ends with Goku's smile after defeating Freeza and there's no post-fin scenes except for Freeza in hell.
What I love about Dragonball is completely non-existent in this movie. I was a little "eh" about there supposedly being a ton of action, and I was still considering seeing the movie, but seriously, no post battle interactions? That is almost beyond comprehension for me. What on earth happened? Did Toriyama just think, "Oh, so you want action, huh? Okay, take this, you ungrateful little vermin!" And another thing, why did this movie get praise from Torishima?
I don't really know what else to say. I am just at a loss for words. It's not because Goku won, or every other character got pushed aside, or that Frieza died... it's just that I don't understand how a movie with the most unforgettable villain and a great cast of characters could end up being so... horridly uncreative. I know, I haven't *seen* the movie yet. I know, I know. But zero character interaction even at the end of the movie? What is this? I can't think of any other possibie thing that would turn me off from seeing a new Dragonball movie more.

While I can't say anything in-depth about the character stuff as I haven't seen it but even that seems to be virtually non-existent from what Kei said, power development doesn't mean jack as it's happened in every relevant DB story ever, plus another Super Saiyan recolor is hardly what I'd call an interesting power development. Them completely giving the Super Saiyan transformations a middle finger and just focusing on base would've been a lot better than blue haired Super Saiyan.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Well, I hardly call character and power development for Goku and Vegeta doing jack all.
I've seen plenty of fan fics that had more thought and care put into them than the "official sequel to Battle of Gods" has, this whole movie is littered with contrivance upon contrivance and I could've forgiven it had it done something interesting. But its pretty obvious this is just there for the fanboys to wank off to the pretty explosions and punches and kicks and explosions and bah!
Clearly giving Toriyama more creative control really backfired this time, and no I don't care if he's the original creator or some such fanboy bs. Original creators screw up their own series plenty of times and Toriyama did it once before with the Buu arc and now he's seemingly done it again. Really pisses me off that this is the only new DB material coming out and it's at the hands of a guy who clearly needs to either piss off or get an editor that's gonna keep his bs in line.
That might make me a "bad fan" but if being a good fan means supporting blegh products, then I'll gladly be a bad fan of anything ever.

I'm really curious about the SSGod stuff!
- Do we see Goku & Vegeta powering-up like transforming when they use the God powers in base?
- Do we see the red Super Saiyan God?
- What does the aura of the blue Super Saiyan form look like?
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Questions for Kei17:
(Probably a little late to ask, but going to anyways.)
1) Was there any flashbacks/references to the history that Frieza had with the Saiyans?
2) Did Vegeta witness Goku blast Frieza with a Kamehameha at the end?
3) Was there any intereaction at all between Vegeta and Bulma?
4) Is there even a miniscule hint of world/lore building or a hint of a sequel?

To be fair, 18 DOES say "but I'm far stronger than you," and Krillin says he's fine because he's still thinking that Freeza is very weak at the point.RandomGuy96 wrote:If 18's part is as kei17 presents it, and I have no reason to doubt him/her, then this movie just crossed the line from "bland, illogical, and bad" to "bland, illogical, and insultingly bad". It makes no sense at all from an in-universe point of view, since 18 is like a hundred times stronger than Krillin, and is supposed to be the dominant one in the relationship to begin with. I see no reason for her to stay back; it's even less logical than Goten, Trunks, and Buu staying out of it, even though they're all stronger than her.

Ah, an implication that Krililn had at least surpassed 1st form Freeza.kei17 wrote:To be fair, 18 DOES say "but I'm far stronger than you," and Krillin says he's fine because he's still thinking that Freeza is very weak at the point.RandomGuy96 wrote:If 18's part is as kei17 presents it, and I have no reason to doubt him/her, then this movie just crossed the line from "bland, illogical, and bad" to "bland, illogical, and insultingly bad". This can only be good
EDIT: Although Krilln could be thinking Gohan and Piccolo would take care of it

Some of you guys are harsh... expecting way too much from DBZ when in reality DBZ is only famous since it is one of the first shonen cliche manga/anime ever made, it never was good for its plot but for its action and comedy. I for one loved everything I'm hearing from the spoilers
-M.Roshi,Krillin,Tien,Gohan,Piccolo getting some love
-We get to know a little more about Whis
-Frieza revived ever since DB and DBZ anime was released Frieza had always been one of the best arch enemy the franchise had (at least for me)
-Goku/Vegeta getting some new colored form (I'm sure that a lot of people loved DBZ cuz of their transformations)
-Their outfits looks awesome as hell except Gohan's
-Goku probably getting some character development due to being the only one retaining his memory of the disaster that happened cuz of his naivety
anyways my point is I hope we all just take what we get and still support the franchise, who knows this may just be the opening for something new.
