I also don't want another Broly movie, but I do want the next movie to have a major villain similar to him regarding his LSSJ physique and craziness(but he still needs to have a personality), a dark atmosphere, and the soundtrack to have Tataki as the composer and either Kageyama or Naoki Hashimoto as special guests to write battle songs. No more of that J-pop and idol group crap.
Maybe the Broly lookalike villain can be the god that is way stronger than Beerus.

Why not? They lost to Frieza, besides very badly. Whis had to step out to help them. Frieza's return wasn't planned, so depending on sales of Battle of Gods we could or we could not get a sequel. Sales were high enough, so now we got a sequel. This would be exactly the same with this movie.Analytical Delusion wrote:Am I the only Freeza fan who's optimistic/satisfied now? Yesterday I was up and down, but there are a ton of positive takeaways. It also seems implied there will be a third movie (I'd think Whis wouldn't train Goku/Vegeta for no apparent reason, and it couldn't have been in anticipation for Freeza...using it as a teaching opportunity to tell Goku not to be so lenient also makes it seem like they're building up to something BIG in the next film).

I'd personally set up the multiverse with this movie. Most fans seem to want Dragon Ball to explore that already. Perhaps have Goku ask Whis right after Freeza suicides to rewind back time but he refuses, saying it's all Goku's fault and he should take responsibility; come up with some kind of reason as to why the Namekian Dragon Balls don't work and have Whis offer Goku a way to go to another universe to search for some DBs and badda bing, badda boom, sequel set up. Something of that nature would do, obviously more carefully thought-out.

Villains don't have to be over the top muscular to be intimidating. Freeza, Pure Boo, #19, #20 and Cell are proof of the that. And the villain doesn't necessarily also have to be stronger than Beerus either, just for the sake of it. The villain could be on par in terms of strength with Goku and it could lead to Goku and the gang using the wits and battle toe defeating him/her. That would be much more interesting.EXBadguy wrote:I also don't want another Broly movie, but I do want the next movie to have a major villain similar to him regarding his LSSJ physique and craziness(but he still needs to have a personality), a dark atmosphere, and the soundtrack to have Tataki as the composer and either Kageyama or Naoki Hashimoto as special guests to write battle songs. Androids are part of big Cell saga and Saiyan/Namek/Frieza is another 1 big saga with build ups, continuous story and setting up the stage. Why are we discussing the obvious?Lord Beerus wrote:No. You said every arc in Z, excluding the Majin Boo arc, had a strong plot, character development, world building etc. Which I countered by saying that only really 2 arcs in the show, excluding the Majin Boo arc, do that. Had I intervene to take over a story of mine handled by somebody else, I would have kept what I felt fine with and still said "this is how I would continue the story". Doesn't matter where you got the ideas.
"As if continuing the manga", I have to clarify that expression.
"AS IF" means "it wouldn't be any different if it was for real". "I'm dressing as if I went to a party" means "If I went to a party, I wouldn't have dressed differently, this is what it would be like, don't go imagining anything else".
"Writing this AS IF writing the continuation of the manga" means "If I was writing the continuation of the manga, it wouldn't be any different, I do it exactly the same way and the story would therefore be the same".
Or is it the expression "as if the manga was still being serialized/published", which is even more obvious in saying that the story we get is the one we would have if Toriyama chose to get back at drawing pages?
Anyway, the only difference is that it's animated by Toei, scored and dubbed instead of drawn by Toriyama on pages. And that Toriyama has to have a "temporary end" to match the length of a movie and has much more time to get inspired for the next step in the on-going plot and write it, as his deadline is not "next week" but "in a year or two", whenever he feels like it due to inspiration.

Nah, never happens with Toriyama. He has a completely different view on series. I don't think that any of the next movies would be very dark, the same way as Frieza and Cell saga were.EXBadguy wrote:I also don't want another Broly movie, but I do want the next movie to have a major villain similar to him regarding his LSSJ physique and craziness(but he still needs to have a personality), a dark atmosphere, and the soundtrack to have Tataki as the composer and either Kageyama or Naoki Hashimoto as special guests to write battle songs. What about idol group songs, as long as we are with Toei, we'll get it. New opening of One Piece is performed by idol group, opening of Sailor Moon Crystal is performed by idol group, Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold's opening... ironically enough is not performed by idol group, and the song in it... is actually the one which was originally performed by Hironobu Kageyama. Something is really wrong here.

Can't disagree with the villain being just as strong as Goku, I also wouldn't mind a very intellectual villain too. But I do disagree with the looks and physique(to a degree). Sure villains like Dr Gero, Frieza(Second to final form) and Cell as a whole aren't bulky, but they sure as hell look intimidating. I also do want the strongest god in the galaxy to look intimidating, but with regalty.Lord Beerus wrote:Villains don't have to be over the top muscular to be intimidating. Well Toei better do the next story involving the god planets and just have Toriyama do some of the designs(and ONLY some). Don't worry, I don't want the same pattern the other movies had either, I just want that dark atmosphere back.Mystic Tien wrote:

By that logic every arc prior to the Saiyan arc is just one big saga. Which it isn't.Basaku wrote:Androids are part of big Cell saga and Saiyan/Namek/Freeza is another 1 big saga with build ups, continuous story and setting up the stage. Vegeta was never a secondary character. He was a main character from the get-go and stayed that way. And Krillin's character development ended all the way in Dragon Ball.Basaku wrote:And they were among core main fighters = main cast. Anyway Battle of Gods is a combined effort of both Toei and Toriyama. It is not a product solely by Toriyama.Cold Skin wrote:We would have never seen Beerus or Whis if Toriyama hadn't chosen names, designs, behaviors, background stories, dialogues.Mystic Tenshinhan wrote:We would never see Beerus or Whis if not for Toei deciding to do a new movie, named Battle of Gods.Cold Skin wrote: Choose: it's either the true continuation of the manga as if writing for new published pages, or it's self-contained movies which is never what we would have seen in the manga, which is therefore a false vision of what a continuation would be like.
Had I intervene to take over a story of mine handled by somebody else, I would have kept what I felt fine with and still said "this is how I would continue the story". Doesn't matter where you got the ideas.
But that is the problem. Manga ended with Uub, so Toriyama's statement is downright wrong. He wouldn't have written it the same if he continued manga, because ideas of SSJ God and God of Destruction belong to Toei, original screenplay was written by Yusuke Watanabe, and design of Beerus was based on Toriyama's cat which he simply didn't have at the time of Dragon Ball's serialization.Cold Skin wrote:["As if continuing the manga", I have to clarify that expression.
Without Toei, it wouldn't have been the same. Toei played a large part in it, coming up with a basic concepts and story. Also if Toriyama didn't hear Maximum Hormone's concert, there wouldn't have been most likely any movie about Freeza at all.Cold Skin wrote:Or is it the expression "as if the manga was still being serialized/published", which is even more obvious in saying that the story we get is the one we would have if Toriyama chose to get back at drawing pages?
Anyway, the only difference is that it's animated by Toei, scored and dubbed instead of drawn by Toriyama on pages. And that Toriyama has to have a "temporary end" to match the length of a movie and has much more time to get inspired for the next step in the on-going plot and write it, as his deadline is not "next week" but "in a year or two", whenever he feels like it due to inspiration.
That is the point. Movie is made by Toei, Toriyama just assists them. During creation of Battle of Gods, he wasn't even the one who wrote the initial script, it was Yusuke Watanabe, and FnF is supposed to be its follow-up, so it doesn't look to me as being in part of manga continuity, to be honest. Though I guess we should just disagree here. I don't see anything as being a part of manga continuity, unless it is clearly stated by author, or it is in manga form. So as for now I see it as a part of anime continuity, instead of manga's one.
