So far, the movie sounds awesome, and I can't wait for the summary, not to mention the movie itself! But I have a long way until there...

James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Seriously. Now I really would like to hear (read, of course) a good explanation of how Freeza not surviving is a good thing. :|

Toriyama is great when it comes to trolling people.
Most of the time, its good. Other times, no.

To people saying they're wondering why Vegeta couldn't stop Freeza's planet-destroying blast...

Imagine Piccolo blowing up the moon. Now imagine him being able to do it even more easily, casually, and faster, and be able to spam those types of blasts. There's really no wonder Vegeta couldn't stop the attack, I don't think even Whis could have. It takes literally less than 1% of their effort to blow up the Earth at this point.

Why then Goku survived, and Vegeta didn't?

I just disagree with the Vegeta kills Freeza one :( I was hoping this or a team work defeat for Freeza.
and maybe Vegeta didnt get a special SSjg blue just for him, but There is a SSjg blue :D

Because Goku was close to Whis, and he activated a barrier.

He didn't even reach Goku/Vegeta level. If he became stornger that everyone, Beerus and Whis included, yeah that could be "unbelievable".
Its the biggest single power-up of the franchise. And its justification is "training for 4 months".

Most people just don't like the idea of him being reoccurring. I'm in that same boat. I never thought bringing him back was a good idea in the first place, and keeping him around would only serve to turn him into a further joke. Also, we all knew the likelihood of them keeping it open ended was unlikely.

I agree, but really... It would have been way better to have Freeza being an tiny obstacle to introduce some other foes, who are really dangerous... for example an evil version of Whis from other universe, or from Universe 7, but from distant past, or distant future....
talking about bad fanfic and the first thing you come up is evil whis?

I thinks he means Toriyama's habit of doing everything exactly contrary to what fans desire/wish for him to do.
Wired: Were you ever very discouraged by the popularity polling system?

Toriyama: I’m the kind of person who doesn’t worry about it too much, but if [the response] was extremely bad, there were times when I’d think, “I wonder why?”. And also, I myself an extremely twisted person. So if, on a reader’s postcard, it was written “That’s this, and this’ll happen like this”, then I’d deliberately go with a development where that didn’t happen, and if a certain character got fairly popular, I’d deliberately kill him. (laughs) Since I did it half-cocked without deciding [what would happen] up ahead, it was easy enough to change up that sort of thing as the circumstances warranted. Even with characters that appear to be doing the right thing at first glance….

Because he literally says if he gets negative criticism and people saying "this, this, and this will happen", he purposely does the opposite.

Because he has purposely gone against the opinion/thoughts/wishes of other people several times before, as confirmed by himself. One example is him making the art even more angular at one point in the manga after someone criticized his art for being too angular lately.

This is my point, that means that Whis immediately reacted to Frieza's attack, why he couldn't save Vegeta or Earth?

EXACTLY! And actually keeping him around would serve a real purpose since the beginning of bringing him back, if he dies, then clearly it is just fan-service/popularity. Why bringing him back just to die!? Why bringing him back is a good idea? And worse, why bringing him back to die in the same movie and yet again is a good idea!? Oh, man... What times are these?

Whis being evil doesn't sound to me as being a bad fanfic. It is perfectly fine.

Trolling is a way of saying = go agaisnt people expectations.

There's was that interview that he said he liked to give Vegeta the main role. He didn't confirmed anything, but a lot of people (me included) thought Vegeta would get the kill this time.
There wasn't anything showing otherwhise.

You have the other example: Anytime people asked him to not kill x character, he would deliberately kill him ( Vegeta).
(I think one of the last interviews uploaded here talks about this)
