The line there is that he wasn't really as BAD as Majin Buu. Beerus really isn't all that bad so it checks out. I mean consider how Beerus as a God of Destruction is a part of the universe's order of things and Buu put the order of the universe itself in jeopardy and it isn't hard to see how Majin Buu is worse than Beerus.

Chapter: 479 (DBZ 285), P6.5, P7.2, P8.2-3
Elder Kaioshin: “That’s ri~~~ight. Lo~~~ong, lo~~~ong ago, there was this ridiculously strong and ba~~~ad dude. Well, not as much as this Majin Boo guy now, but still~~~. He did it, he se~~~ealed me away inside that sword. Me here. He was freaked out by how fearsome I am. Yep, sure wa~~~as.”
Goku: “…He don’t look like that amazin’ an old-timer…I’ll test him out a bit.”
*Goku blasts Elder Kaioshin, who gets really hurt*
Goku: “…Like I thought, he’s just an old blowhard…”
Elder Kaioshin: “It-it wasn’t my power that my enemy was freaked out by…! It was my ferocious ‘ability’!”

If there was a summary it'd be on the front page.

As inelegant and unnecessary as Toriyama's supplanting of Beerus into that particularly anecdote is in my opinion, it's definitely not the worst of the recent 'retcons' for me to get my head around, and is something I can fit in without too much mental readjustment.

I think it's hard for people who've had a long-term understanding of in-universe matters to interject trivial new stuff into their Dragonworld-view, but just imagine, as a thought experiment, if you were reading that chapter for the first time, having never read it before, but seen Battle of Gods and read Toriyama's 'tidbit' on the matter.

As powerful as Beerus is, he's definitely not what I'd call evil. Destruction is his job, even if he approaches it with his own ad-hoc logic as a folly. Buu, on the other hand, was a pretty malevolent and sadistic creature, that was essentially running riot like a Bull in a glass warehouse.

My statement was merely to support the "BEERUS DID IT" joke. Yes this is a continuity error, but it's not really that bad of one. Honestly it's pretty minor and inconsequential. Though the plausibility of Beerus being the one to have Freeza destroy planet Vegeta is far worse if that's the case. From what I heard the wording on it could mean he told Freeza to do it. I forget if that was herms who said the statement was a little ambiguous.

Either way it's just part of a in-joke of Beerus unnecessarily being connected to things. Such as Kaio's world being tiny. That tidbit doesn't really add anything of real value but shoehorning Beerus. Hell first it was video games, then hide n seek that made him blow up Kaio's world. That statement was changed quick too.

Exactly.

I actually was bugged by that interview as well until I saw that exact translation and realized that no retcon was actually made.

Note how it's worded. The "not as much as this Majin Boo guy" accompanies the train of thought of how BAD this other guy was. He doesn't ever really compare their strengths. Chalk it up to a common misconception.

Something about Shoko Nakagawa makes me cringe. :|

Also, I'm guessing this'll be used as the album art for the movie's theme:

Basically just Freeza bragging about how he's revived, is gonna get revenge on the Saiyans, then giving the opening date for the movie and saying to look forward to it. Ho ho ho ho.

No one's really talked about the blog since the preview screening, lol. The one put up today (http://ameblo.jp/dragonball2015/entry-12008814254.html , which at this point is the second entry to be labeled "18 days left", when it should be 17. Maybe they'll fix it later?) is amusing simply for the fact that Bulma mentions it's April Fool's Day and then jokes that Vegeta isn't Trunks' father

It's worded to mean both. The previous guy was strong and bad, but he doesn't compare to Boo. If he was just bad, then Elder Kaioshin wouldn't have much to brag about. Besides this statement came way before Beerus was created, so it's wishful thinking to try and treat it like there was some pre-planing or contingency.

I agree, but really... It would have been way better to have Freeza being an tiny obstacle to introduce some other foes, who are really dangerous... for example an evil version of Whis from other universe, or from Universe 7, but from distant past, or distant future....
talking about bad fanfic and the first thing you come up is evil whis?
I was giving an example... And, indeed, a villain with similar skills like Whis has should be a really big threat, shouldn't he/she?

Well he DOES make a point to mention his power, but all he really says about it is that he was "ridiculously strong" and only after that does he compare how bad he was to Buu who IS in fact far worse than Beerus. To top it off Beerus is in fact "ridiculously strong" too. It checks out if you ask me.

I definitely don't think it was pre-planned to be Beerus. However, I stand by my earlier statement that this is NOT a retcon. I'd say it's more of a filling of an old blank that got left blank for a long time.

I remember there being discussion during the run up to Battle of Gods if Nakagawa was being sincere in all the fangirl spazzing she did or just trying to play it up so fans would identify with her more. I feel like it is real, because I imagine I would act the same way in those situations  People might find it weird or irritating, but when all the Japanese press events we see are typically very scripted and sedate, it's fun to watch someone be like, "OMG, is this really happening?! I'm standing next to my childhood idols, OMG NO WAY!" I'm also amused by how she adds -sama to Freeza and Vegeta, but not to Gokuu.

Kinda loving the ridiculous/crazy cat-in-people-clothes dress she's wearing. Where can I get one? (answer: in Japan, for an exorbitant amount of yen).

That doesn't really make sense having Goku going Super Saiyan having God power still his hair remained Golden like always. I think it's simply an upgraded form of the Saiyan God, a Super Saiyan God in very first meaning of the term. But I don't think the gap between Base Saiyan God and Super Saiyan God is as huge like in the case of Base Saiyan and Super Saiyan(which is 50x) I think here we have a 2x or so.

It's a goof. It's highly unlikely Toriyama thought in his mind about what was originally said. He probably just remembered Elder Kaioshin being sealed, and decided that Beerus did it. Being bad means nothing if you don't have the power or influence to back it up. He said the person was weaker and not as bad. He compared both his proclamations to Boo. What makes Elder Kaioshin's statement mean something is that a ridiculously powerful person sealed him, not a bad person. Being bad means nothing without influence or power. So what he means is "A really strong bad guy sealed me away, but he wasn't comparable to Boo."

I really hate these cute girls in Japanese pop culture. Last time my girlfriend was watching My Little Pony during her studies and there was this bit with Japanese host that did weird gestures and talking like choking a balloon.
I wanted to punch trough her monitor with my fist after coming home from work. Yes, I don't like Shoko Nakagawa, but not more, than the acting skills of Japanese Judo Olympionic in BoG.

So let me get this straight: You guys have no problem with accepting that Freeza can go from weaker then SSJ1 to stronger than SSJG with 4 months of training, but you find it unbelievable that Beerus could go from weaker than Super Buu to stronger than SSJG with 75 million years of training?

I know this has already been talked about but here's more proof that Frieza's 530,000 powerlevel is really just his 1st form, Shoko saying that ''A powerlevel of 530,000 with 2 more transformations''
