Funny but not necessarily Saiyaman related, Thor's pose at least is a common bodybuilding pose.

Even Recoom does it. Not so sure about Loki's pose though.

Only Saiyaman places his hands on his head in that manner. Hiddleston only forgot to squat.

I saw a pic of Ronda wearing that shirt and I thought it was photoshopped at first.

Chalk another couple up to rappers, Joey Bada$$ & Big Sean.

There are a few Dragon Ball Z items in the early scenes of Boyhood, so either Richard Linklater is a closet fan or, more likely, he was using things that would be appropriate for that point in Mason's life. I choose to believe the former, though.

I don't think that's an actual Mike Shinoda song.
Sorry that I'm necroposting but I want to clear this up.

This verse is actually from a song called Rock n' Roll (Could Never Hip Hop Like This) by Handsome Boy Modeling School featuring Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington, both of Linkin Park, from the album White People.

It's an interesting song. It starts off with Handsome Boys rapping over some very recognizable samples. Then the instrumental changes up for Mike's rap verse, but the instrumental is NOT Dragon Ball related in any way. It is in fact a fan remix. Someone used the instrumental of the Handsome Boys song in order to creat an a capella.

Here is the original track for your listening pleasure:

Also seems to be a common pose for throwing a discus, so that goes back to Ancient Greece...

Too lazy to read the thread (especially since it's a necro), but Joss and Jeb Whedon are both big fans. They even took advantage of its "geek" status to work it into an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

You stayed up into the early hours to watch Wrestlemania 31? I thought I was the only UK wrestling fan on this forum. Glad to know I'm not alone. :P

That is famously Hulk Hogan's pose. Recoome to me is a parody of Pro Wrestling of the late 80s and early 90s with the outrageous characters decked out in neon clothing. The Ginyus are particularly colourful (like Hogan, Warrior, Flair, Hart, Macho Man) and have special poses and phrases like wrestlers do. I think he was parodying pro wrestling (and that's why I think TFS took the direction of those episodes the way they did because they felt the same way).

Wrestlers back then had poses and phrases they used to get over. Japan less so, but the WWF is notorious for the outrageous characters. The Ginyus are also huge guys save for Guldo, who could represent the midgets in wrestling.

Obviously Toriyama was aware of Hogan since in the early 90s Hogan was doing tours in Japan. Around the same time Mr Satan appeared, Hogan was doing a gig over there in 1992/93 (with the famous clip of him declaring the WWF belt as a toy compared to the Japanese federation title). No way did Toriyama not know of this since in Japan, wrestling was (and I still think is) a huge industry.

Recoome is very much a parody of a wrestler. No doubt.

I literally typed in "Hulk Hogan pose" the very first page gave me this:

Image

Yeah. It's totally a parody of Hogan.
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

Actually I just happened to see the clip of it online because I'm a fan of Ronda, but it was epic nontheless. :)

If only he could do a Dragon Ball movie as well as he does The Avengers.

Joss Whedon directing a Dragon Ball live action movie? My God. That would be unreal. But it would never happen. Joss is already embroiled in the MCU.
