Goku and Superman Popularity

So if you guys already didnt notice this but Goku has recently been very close to surpassing Superman in terms of current popularity, not this doesnt mean that Goku surpassed him in terms of fame, hell no! superman has been around since 1930s but at the current period of time their gap between one being talked on the internet more than the other is way closer than we expected.

But the main problem with Goku is that for him its very hard to bring up that popularity again. Infact at this current time right now the scale shows that Goku is now more popular than ever before during the years of 2004 up until 2015. Interms of searches and views Superman is at 26 and Goku is ranked at 21. But whats even more interesting is that we are talking about Superman being in general which also ranges from comic books, movies, spinoffs etc. Goku on the other hand is just a fictional character from the Anime/Manga called Dragon Ball.


To be more fair we need to compare Superman to Dragon ball not Goku. And here is what we find out.
In terms of which is more popular we find out that Dragon ball currently stands at 78 in terms of interest while superman stands at only 21.
The only time that superman was able to surpass DBZ was only in 2006 which to my speculation was probably because of that Superman returns movie.
(also this is a perfect example why manga is more popular than comics) You just cant make a living drawing comics in America unless your a Hollywood director. Akira Toriyama manga series even after it ended still remained more popular than Superman in all these years combined lol.


My main point is that i believe Toriyama shouldnt stop making his series. when a Japanese show like Dragon Ball makes such a big impact that it even surpasses Superman interms of popularity, you then start to see that Dragon Ball has the potential to became the greatest fantasy, fiction, superhero series possibly ever created. And with my pesimistic point of view i just cant picture any type of anime, manga, comics and even movie to be able to surpass Dragon Ball Z in terms of what it gave the viewers what other sort of entertainment media weren't able to give.

I don't thing Toriyama give two shits about how popular Dragon Ball is compared to Superman. He'll still make Dragon Ball, regardless, when he feels like he has to motivation to do it. The popularity of Superman, or any other franchise, has no bearing on that.

That's part of what makes anime/manga series great: they don't get dragged out into eternity with a dozen different writers and another complete reboot of the universe every decade or so, to the point where you can't ever be sure exactly what character you're reading about because they're always being redefined according to somebody else's vision of what they should be. Toriyama wrote Dragonball, and then it ended, occasional new additions in the form of movies/specials aside. And that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I look at these trends from time to time and I'm always surprised to see how high Dragon Ball trends at. Over the past decade it's been on par with even Batman, arguably the most popular superhero there is. It's actually on par with Harry Potter now.

Superman is always going to be a bigger household name and is going to make more money then Dragon Ball. Over 75 years being on Earth, Superman has made a much bigger impact then Dragon Ball ever has. Most people probably don't know who Goku is or know anything about Dragon Ball outside the name.

You might be forgetting to include older people that like superman but don't Google every little thing.
There isn't a single person who knows what Dragon Ball is that doesn't frequently use the internet. This data is more based on age and generation rather than raw popularity. Give it 30 more years and then see where Dragon Ball stands in the states.

Superman is still a bigger brand name then DBZ. Superman is a worldwide icon that everyone knows who Superman is. DBZ is not even close on that level. Superman has six major films in Hollywood that made a lot of money while DBZ has one that flopped.

Awake me up when Goku and DBZ become both an worldwide cultural icon, becomes a major Hollywood franchise, and became a serving as inspiration for musicians, artist, and writers alike for decades. While Dragon Ball is a popular franchise but it's nowhere on the same level as Superman, James Bond, Harry Potter, Star Trek and Star Wars.
