Seems like it will be a pretty nice premiere.
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Resurrection '
That Premiere sounds awesome. Am so envious! such a shame Manga UK can't organise something similar.
Hopefully, we UK fans will be able to see the movie before the end of the year at least, whether we have to import the FUNi home release, or Manga UK are quick to license like they were for BoG.

None of the things you're listing absolutely necessitate that power be the one and only thing that holds the empire together politically (and political reasons are expressly why Sorbet decides to bring him back, whether that has wholly to do with power or otherwise - which is the point of contention here). All any of that says is that Freeza happens to be one major asshole.rereboy wrote:
So, instead of considering it a plothole or a inconsistency, your solution for it is to interpret that Freeza, who was continuously called the strongest in the universe when he was in power, who has always been portrayed as absolutely ruthless, who makes a living out of conquering planets by force and selling them or keeping them for himself, and that destroys entire planets if there's a chance that they even might pose a threat to him in the future, somehow controls and rules his empire thanks not to force and fear due to his power, but perhaps thanks to his administrative skills, or his diplomacy, or the loyalty and love of his subjects whenever he is not killing them on a whim?
Furthermore, when he's not busy killing Random Soldier #354, Freeza is, in point of fact, shown to be rather charismatic with his followers (again, see the Ginyus). But perhaps more importantly, the administration of so large an empire as his is no doubt an arduous task that few could competently take on. To claim that power is the exclusive factor that goes into consolidating a regime of that magnitude is what's implausible, and the onus, again, falls on you to show where that's indicated, or at all suggested. As for me, I think it's always preferable to give the material at least a fair reading before crying foul. Let's be charitable readers; everything's much more enjoyable that way.
(Also, for all we know, Sishami could be just a bumbling idiot who, while strong, is utterly uncharismatic and politically incompetent. Now this is speculation, of course, but hey - I'm just fighting fire with fire.)

First of all, Freeza's organization, or empire like we fans sometimes call it, is only refereed to as Planet trade Organization and its purpose seems to just be the conquering and selling of planets. So, according to the material given, it seems to be a military-style organization for profit, not a political one. So, political considerations are pretty much irrelevant since politics seem to not really play a significant role in the organization. It seems to be an absolute military-style dictatorship.Faustus wrote:

Secondly, actually, it pretty much means that power is that one thing. Given Freeza's violent behavior and the fact that he enslaves and kills entire races and keeps or sells their planets, his power and the fear of his power is quite literally the only thing keeping his organization together. Without it, those races would just fight back, like they did when Freeza died. Freeza shows no other significant skills nor does he show any other way of getting what he wants except by threatening and using violence in the given material, so, what I'm saying derives naturally from the material available. It's what you are saying that doesn't derive from it so, if anybody has the "burden of proof", its you.
Also, Freeza is never shown to have extraordinary charm or appeal (aka being charismatic), regarding the Ginyus or anyone else. The Ginyus are merely shown to be loyal, nothing else, and considering that were also genocidal killers, its not surprising that they are loyal to a stronger genocidal killer who lets them kill people and destroy planets.
Furthermore, personally, I don't find any need or sense in twisting logic to try to justify a plothole or a inconsistency. If it exist, it just exists.
And, it really doesn't matter much if Sishami can't think for himself. As it was shown in the manga tie-in for the movie, they are being forced out of planets because they can't repress the rebellions and that's why they are forced to retreat. Meaning that their problem is a problem of force/power. With Sishami being that strong, all they had to do would order him to repress the rebellions, and he would do it in a instant.

The premier is looking like a pretty decent event. Too bad I don't live in LA (or have money), as I'd have loved to see the film in theaters...subbed.

I hope them having subs already means an earlier home release.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:The premier is looking like a pretty decent event. Too bad I don't live in LA (or have money), as I'd have loved to see the film in theaters...subbed.
I've decided to wait for Funi theater subs, or the Japanese home release; whatever comes first. I'll watch the dub later, but I don't want it to be my first exposure to the full film.
On hiatus.

Well, I'd say it would release no earlier than after the dub leaves US theaters. Probably some sort of gap between theater run ending and DVD release...but probably out before the end of the year, I'd guess.Chuquita wrote:I hope them having subs already means an earlier home release.

If you don't mind me asking, why don't you want the dub to be your first exposure to the full film?
I somehow waited until the US theater run for BoG for my first viewing of any more than clips (it was right after my Birthday, so I was all pumped for it).

Especially after Julian said the character interactions and dialogue is what helps to carry part of the film, I can completely understand that. Funi has gotten pretty good with their dubs, but some of the little changes in Battle of Gods (arguably their best work on Dragon Ball to date) still left me a little irked. Still, I'm pretty desperate to see the film. So even if I have to sit through the Funi version, I'll do it. It'll likely just help me to appreciate the Japanese version all the more.Chuquita wrote:I hope them having subs already means an earlier home release.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Resurrection '
Maybe they'll have limited streaming of the subbed version before the dubbed release in the summer. Then again, that can hurt sales of the theatrical release since a lot of people would have already seen it and would be discussing it with a lot of friends.

Re: subs first why
I already prefer Nozawa's Gokû, but Julian's review about how integral the dialogue and performances are in the script sold me.
I've got faith in Sabat's Vegeta-ing at this point, but I just can't get used to Schemmel anymore (partly due to being so impressed with TFS's MasakoX's Gokû). I just like the not so heavy sound TFS uses (Ocean's first two Gokûs were light too, might also have to do with it.) Schemmel's sounds too heavy often times.

That's an Easter-egg referencing the movie Alien. It's just a gag; it has no bearing on the plot.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:mAcChaos wrote:What scene was that?Baggie_Saiyan wrote:It is like that scene in Dragonball where the robot scans Goku as an alien, that idea was explored much later. As Big Momma said was during the RR arc.Spoiler:

I don't see anything wrong with the second option. If you're squishing ants and all of a sudden a bee flies at you, you might get stung. That's why I'd really like to see the full context. If somehow Shisami is stronger than Freeza, I agree that would be strange plot-wise, but I don't know how that could be definitively proven. I feel that if this were the case, Sorbet would have introduced Tagoma and Shisami differently when Freeza was first revived.rereboy wrote: It's true that Toriyama doesn't, but because he doesn't, an inconsistency always forms. We either have that guy be stronger than Freeza or we have that guy be much weaker than Freeza and somehow be able to put up a fight with Piccolo.
I'm pretty sure that's not how it comes off because I never once suggested that I could do a good job writing the movie or that I was superior to Toriyama, and I'm not sure how someone criticizing the plot points of a movie and pointing out logical problems in them somehow means that that someone is saying that he or she is better than the author.
I also can't help but notice that you are basically saying that what the author chose is perfectly fine, not because it's logical, consistent and imaginative, but merely because it's not fan-fiction.
I feel that your criticisms are more nitpicking based on your personal preferences than criticizing legitimate plot holes. You're saying all of these other options that you would have preferred for introducing story concepts, but that's a lot easier to say after you're viewing a finished product. I don't wish to debate this anymore, because I doubt that we'll end up agreeing.
Yes, the fact that the author wrote it does lend quite a bit more legitimacy to it. I like Dragon Ball and other works that Toriyama has done, so I'd prefer to spend my time thinking about what he may have thought was important or intended rather than criticizing every decision. Yes, we all like to have fun with the fact that Toriyama is forgetful and lazy at times, but that doesn't mean the man is an idiot who thoughtlessly spits out content. Toriyama has often included details in Dragon Ball that he doesn't care to explain or elaborate on, which makes it fun to try to read between the lines. You don't think it's logical, consistent, or imaginative, but I think it's all of those things.
@ the Los Angeles Premiere
Ughhhhhh I wish I could meet Nozawa in person so badly. I just want to bow, bask in her presence, and tell her that as long as there's an Earth she will always be Goku.
