It was called something like "Super Saiyan Stage 5" in official books at the time and the name was later replaced with Super Saiyan 2.

Reason for the naming I am guessing :

I think Goku tried to go SSJ after he transformed into God form ( Red form ) , then godly ki combined with SSJ powers and result was SSJGSS and Blue hair.

I still can't believe the Blue Super form stayed a secret until nearly a day before the preview screening. They were so close to keeping that a surprise.

I like to imagine what everyone's conversations would have been if the toys hadn't leaked and we truly hadn't heard about it before Julian got back from the premiere.

Gotta admit, that's kinda one reason why I'm not sure how to feel about these new forms. I mean, SS God as it was before did look different, yeah, but it kept Goku's most iconic look - his regular hair - and yet he was able to fight at his full power with it. That was a nice change of pace IMO.

...Vegeta doesn't count in this one, since his hair barely ever changed in the first place.

I'll give it to Toei; They completely fooled me with this one. I totally bought that they would stay in their base forms the whole time. I definitely didn't expect this new form. I'm pretty happy with it, though. I enjoy how it's kind of a silver/blue, and I'd love to see SSJ3 come back with that color.

... Well, at least I have Dragon Ball Heroes. Always being awesome as it indeed is, it named the form way, way... WAAAY much better. I'll call it "Saiyan beyond God", it's shorter and sounds better.

I'm still kinda heartbroken about it. I'd resigned to maybe not seeing ssjg mode again, and was starting to think it'd be pretty cool to see them not even have to transform to beat Freeza.

I'm grateful I can draw as I can, so I want more ssjg mode Gokû, I can make it happen, but it's not the same as seeing it animated, ya know?

Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan???

Really, such a redundant name, isn't it? I'm still sticking with Mastered Godly Super Saiyan or simply Godly Super Saiyan. As I can see the form in his definitive design I can say it's literally a color swap of Super Saiyan 1 form, so it's not even a hybrid of Saiyan God and Super Saiyan(not even the complete eye structure from Saiyan God was kept). A name of GSSJ is more than accurate to describe the form, after Goku telling what the state really is.
