Yeah, more than one box. What gave you the idea that it was only one box?
There it is . . . the ULTIMATE collection.

I know I have season box sets coming. But Corey, there are times when I envy you. Don't ever sell.

(That really should clear up this Dragon Box business once and for all and get this thread back on track. Unless someone's going to turn around and say, "DUR, I can't tell if it's more than one box.")

I know its still possible to grab the movies box set, and the two DBZ box set (even then, they are releasing the singles). But what about the DB box set? Is that even possible to get anymore? Or do you guys think they will release DB singles? If this widescreen release doesn't go the way I like it, I think I'll just get the stuff from over seas.

Don't worry, I'll never sell these (my girlfriend, reading over my shoulder, just added "And you'll never let anyone else touch them." ;p). I did have to think about buying the GT box initially (since I'm not a huge fan of GT), but I went through with it anyway and don't regret it.

You can find all of them, it's just a matter of what you're willing to spend and finding someone who is willing to ship across the Pacific. Plus, factor in the whole communication issue, unless you can correspond in Japanese. Toei will eventually do singles for all the boxes, I'm fairly certain, so I wouldn't worry about being left out if you can't find the boxes. The only thing that might not come out are the TV specials.

BTW, I meant to ask both of you, what are the basis of your names? Because 'ect5150' reminds me of Eddie Van Halen's 5150 studio and line of Peavey amplifiers (and the code for involuntary psychiatric hold, which they were named after), and 'Lil' Lemmy' reminds me of Lemmy Kilmister from Motorhead.

That is 100% accurate. Even though he is a drunken bastard now, Eddie Van Halen is/was/always will be second to none on the guitar.

My bad on the Dragonboxes error guys. I'll eat my bowl of ownage now :)

OK so let's say I am willing to wait until the second remastered season set is out(hopefully by June)....and then from there I want to watch the rest of the series in it's entirety without waiting until the remaining new sets come out. Which previously released Funi dvd sets can I buy to hold me over until the rest of the newer remastered sets come out?

You're one-third correct.

1.) Spiritually, the moniker I use-- and I've been using it since I was a kid-- comes from the character Lemmy Koopa (who used to be in my avatar); I was a SMB3 nut before I knew anything about speed metal or Motörhead.

2.) Here's where you're correct: It's a bizarre coincidence that Kilmister shares the same name (though technically, his name is Ian), because I do like some of the music. Do you? I dare anyone here to listen to Ace of Spades and tell me it's not @#$%ing awesome as hell.

3.) Finally, "Lemmy" happens to be the name for the main character of my novel-- though that's really more an instance of him being named after the avatar rather than the avatar after him.[/off-topic]

But back to the season sets!

Hmm. Well, if you really can't wait for the rest of the remastered sets, the remaining episodes are already out there for you to find. But it will be more expensive for you in the long-run.

Firstly, there is currently no Freeza DVD set, and with the release of these future sets I doubt there's ever going to be a compendium of the first-edition singles already released. You'll have to buy them all individually (10 DVDs). After that, just about everything else has come out in box form and been released as the following:

3 DVD box set for the Garlic Jr. saga
The Trunks saga was only boxed in VHS and not for DVD. (Do I have that right, Meri?) You'll have to buy the 2 DVDs individually, as well as make sure that they're second-edition. The first-edition DVDs are missing a few episodes and don't have subtitles that look consistent with the rest of the series'.
4 DVD box set for the Androids saga
4 DVD box set for the Imperfect Cell saga
4 DVD box set for the Perfect Cell saga
The Cell Games saga was released as a starter set of 2 DVDs, but never as a complete set, I don't think. There are 9 DVDs in all.
5 DVD box set for the Great Saiyaman saga
3 DVD box set for the World Tournament saga
4 DVD box set for the Babidi saga
7 DVD box set for the Majin Buu saga
7 DVD box set for the Fusion saga
5 DVD box set for the Kid Buu saga

Each DVD contains both the English and Japanese tracks with subtitles for both and an episode count of roughly 2-4 episodes. The price varies from set to set (up to $100), but with the newer sets coming you'd be crazy to pay full price for these. Try Amazon or eBay to cut the prices in half.

Indeed, it's sad to see what Eddie has become. I miss the fire the guy had, though I still admire his technical prowess. If you've ever read his theories on music (he once spoke to Guitar Player about how a guitar is theoretically built wrong, which while part of it flew over my head since I'm not schooled in music theory so much as someone who has played guitar and drums a bit for fun), his genius really shines through. I'm looking forward to the Van Halen reunion with Roth, since that was my favorite era, though I know the whole thing will probably be an embarrassment (especially with Eddie's son playing the bass instead of Michael Anthony...it's just wrong...)

On topic, I rather think Vejita would appreciate...uh, Van Halen's...songs...about...stuff.

Well, I guess I couldn't hit two home runs, eh? ;)

I've enjoyed what little I've heard of Motorhead, and I also enjoyed the side project that Dave Grohl did which Lemmy participated in (Probot). I'm actually just now really branching into "true" metal at the age of 22 (nothing recently really grabs me, sad to say, so I'm reaching back and looking at acts I either never gave my full attention to or just never heard), having been raised with a mix of 70's and 80's rock bands, and having lived through the 90's grunge era personally. I'll give Ace of Spades a listen, I don't think I've heard it yet and I'm always looking for more good music.

And, to be on topic, Lemmy would kick Goku's ass. And Superman's for the matter ;p

To the poster who asked about getting old DBZ DVD's for cheap, check out www.deepdiscountdvd.com or ebay. Those are your best bets IMHO.

Ooh, Probot. Shake Your Blood was really good, in my opinion. Hmm. Come to think of it, so was Shake Your Blood. There was another one, too . . . what was it? Y'know, I think it was Shake Your Blood.

Aye, I'm feelin' it. So much of the music I like was born before I was. It's a shame, really . . . what we have today is okay, but it could be much better. I was born in the wrong decade.
MajinVejita then wrote:And, to be on topic, Lemmy would kick Goku's ass. And Superman's for the matter ;p
Everything about Goku somehow gets tossed to Superman, doesn't it? Way to kill the inevitable spin-off discussion.

You know, he's right. Forget Amazon or eBay, OutRun; I've shopped with these guys for about a year now, and they've never let me down. Deep Discount DVD: Where insane prices and speedy delivery for DBZ empty my wallet faster than booze.

All right, then! I'm feelin' the guilt now. (Are you, Corey? Because you're the one who started it.) Time to get back on track before we get yelled at. So what's to do now? . . . just wait for those FUNimation reps to give us those image comparisons, I suppose? I could talk about music all night, but that'd be a real good way to derail this thread. Does anyone have anything constructive to say?

Because until then, I should probably keep quiet. :D

In addition, if you enter 'DISCOUNT' in the coupon field you can get an additional 20% off. I'd act now, I dunno when it expires (I definitely just bought all of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and yes I'm a dork but that was a damn good cast, for about $250 which is pretty nice since it was $600-ish a little more than a year ago).

I may regret a few things from my life, but talking about good music is never one of them ;)

I'm gonna put my commentary on hold until we get images as well. I'm honestly curious, since this will be the 'true' representation of the product.

Same here, looking forward to more fun once we have more fodder ;)

Darmok? The Inner Light? Best of Both Worlds?

You. Are not. A dork. OR . . . possibly, I am a dork with you.

As for that super-saver DISCOUNT, I do believe that it ended this weekend. Though like with many things, there's an overwhelming chance that I could be wrong.

Not really much to do 'til then, huh? I think, until that point, that pretty much everything that can be said with regards has been said. So now we'll just have to wait and see. I'm looking forward to it.

Don't forget 'Chain of Command', 'Tapestry' and 'Yesterday's Enterprise'. I could go on, but I'm sure Mike would have a stroke ;)

The 'DISCOUNT' code might be dead, but they have a new one extended until 11/23 which is 'DD1123' that got emailed to me today. Order quick if there's anything you've been wanting, everyone.

While I guess it's not 100% certain (as there hasn't been any outward confirmation from FUNimation either way), the general perception here is that no, they are not using the Dragon Box footage. FUNimation has hired an outside company to clean and restore the footage in question, which generally would not be necessary to do with the redone Dragon Box masters.

What they may have done is gained access to the prints Toei used to make their Dragon Box masters, in which case Dragon Box quality would theoretically be possible.

Unfortunately, there's just no way to tell at present. The trailer itself hypes that FUNimation is using "the original Japanese masters," adding to the confusion and making things less-than-clear for everyone. Japanese masters in this context could refer to Dragon Box, the prints Dragon Box came from or just the original prints FUNi was given when they acquired the rights to DragonBall eons ago, and nobody's talking.

Everything is speculation so far, but we should have answers soon. Stay tuned.

Maybe it was the copy TOEI used for the VHS releases.

Toei only did the movies on VHS (and LD). I believe the DragonBox DVD's were the first licensed domestic Japanese release of the actual series EVER.

I'm thinking they used their existing masters, though I could be wrong. Hopefully FUNi will hit us with info before the holiday.

Hmm. I could be wrong, but I think I remember some time ago seeing an actual online petition for this feature to be included in future releases. And despite that I would have liked this too, I distinctly recall thinking to myself something along the lines of, "not a chance in hell."

EDIT: Ha! I did see it, right here at DaizenshuuEX. It's featured in a locked thread from 2004. Hilarious that it has actually come true . . .

I just had a thought... What if they add in black bars to the sides making it widescreen while keeping it in correct aspect ratio and truthfully showing us the new un-seen footage. This is just speculation, but this would be WAY better than cropping.

Edit: I'll try to take a screen cap explaining what I am trying to say. Hopefully someone else will do it before I do.

But the trailer shows the footage being in actual... widescreen.

Has FUNi responded with any damage control yet? I really want to settle all of our speculations.
