US Theater Length
US Theater Length
does anybody think or know or have reason to believe that F will be in theaters for a more standard length of time or will it likely be another very brief special event sort of thing like BoG and only run for a few days?
Re: US Theater Length
They wouldn't be able to book it for a full run because it wouldn't survive one. It's almost a guarantee it'll be booked through the digital and live event distributors like last time. I wouldn't be shocked if they did some extra screenings later like last time, but the film didn't really hang on well enough through the end last time to convince anyone it would need more time in theaters. (It's lowest day that they even counted was a week after it came out when it averaged about $320 per screen, which for events like this equate to less than 30 people a screening.)ShaneisMC wrote:does anybody think or know or have reason to believe that F will be in theaters for a more standard length of time or will it likely be another very brief special event sort of thing like BoG and only run for a few days?

Re: US Theater Length
So we're looking at probably another 4 day thing, maybe a week or something at best. Either way thats cool, it just makes it more special being so exclusive.
Re: US Theater Length
I hope it gets a wide release like BoG did, though. It was nice to have a theater near me showing it instead of just hearing about one 200 miles away.

Re: US Theater Length
Well BoG was shown in something like 800 theatres and I think it was for around 10 days though it was only advertised for just the 4 days and it wasn't in 800 theatres every day.
Maybe they'll have something similar but they'll advertise it better and keep it in a higher amount of theatres. It was a last minute addition with BoG.

I'd like Resurrection F to get a widescreen release, but realistically it's gonna get a very similar limited release that BOG got.

Re: US Theater Length
Limited release is fine as long if the movie is not being played in 24 select theaters or something like that. Fans want the movie to be released in 2,000 theaters when that's never going to happen. The bigger the release for the movie, the more money is put into the market. We have a big fan base but these type of movies market to the fans of the franchise. It's not like with Evolution where they made a mainstream movie market to a bigger audience.

If they're making such a big deal about a simple LA Premiere, then it's likely going to get more screenings than BoG did. However, anime is very niche and subtitled anime draws an even smaller market in North America. It's most likely still going to be nowhere near as big as a conventional film, but I think it'll be bigger than BoG.

Re: US Theater Length
I wouldn't mind if it was the same number of days. I would just prefer if they expanded to more than one screening on said days. At least a second one, preferably subbed (which they already have complete). :/

Its the worldwide premiere of the film.Dayspring wrote:If they're making such a big deal about a simple LA Premiere, then it's likely going to get more screenings than BoG did. Julian was at the premiere at the start of the month. Therefore, this is the US Premiere, not worldwide.cpuguy18 wrote:Its the worldwide premiere of the film.Dayspring wrote:If they're making such a big deal about a simple LA Premiere, then it's likely going to get more screenings than BoG did. Re: US Theater Length
Julian went to an early screening that you could only get into by chance, and the 18th is still the official release date in Japan. This is the first event that sold tickets directly to the public, albeit in limited quantity.Dayspring wrote:Julian was at the premiere at the start of the month. It's a lot of semantics either way.

Re: US Theater Length
We need to remember that Battle of Gods came out in U.S. theaters 11 months after the BD/DVD release in Japan. Everyone had pirated it by then so Funimation knew they would lose money if they did a big release in theaters. If I recall, they had already shown the director's cut version by the time BoG came out in U.S. theaters, or at the very least the U.S. BD/DVD release. There wasn't much money to be made. However, with Resurrection "F" it will be in U.S. theaters only 2-4 months after the initial Japanese theater release, so fans who want to see it who a) don't live in Japan and or b) didn't get to the April 11 screening in California will NOT have pirated it yet to see it.
Therefore if they ramp up their advertising it will get many more people to know about it and say "Hey, there's a new DBZ film. Let's go see it!" once they find out it isn't available online. The fans (such as us) will see it probably at midnight in theaters when it first comes out because, again, we won't have seen a subbed copy online like I'm betting a fair number of us did with BoG. But will the film see the coverage that blockbusters like the Harry Potter films see or maybe smaller films such as The Perks of Being a Wallflower did? I doubt it (at least for the former). But will it get a much wider theater release than BoG did? Most definitely. I think our issues will be maybe 50 miles at worst (except for the shittiest parts of the U.S.). For my area, the closest screenings for BoG were an 1-1.5 hrs away.
But for Resurrection "F", I think my local theater (15 minute drive) will have it. It gets a LOT of movies my friends who get to see indie films at film festivals say I won't get to see until home video release.

Re: US Theater Length
I am hoping they use a VOD and theater run at the same time this round. I like seeing DBZ in the theaters, but my last experience though fun, was bad at the same time. The room smelled like farts and B.O., and whoever was in charge of sound had it cranked to max, causing my ears to bleed every time Bulma would speak. I have no issues with the movie itself or the dub, it was just the theater.

I doubt 20th Century Fox would be willing to shell out more cash for IMAX screenings. And if they did, I doubt most fans would spend the extra money for the IMAX experience.Saiyan_nation_ wrote:Do we get to see it in IMAX as well?
