Kaio Ken

Simple question, why doesn't Chaozu, Yamcha, Tenshinhan, or Piccolo use it?

Or did North Kaiō simply not teach it to them as it was too dangerous?

Hmm...

I guess the most sensible reason would be that Goku needed the Kaio-Ken. When Goku was training, he only had (after Snake Way) a few months to train in preperation for an enemy that was much stronger than him. So I believe King Kai taught him Kaio-Ken as what is was: a trump card. Same for the Spirit Bomb.

Piccolo and company, however, weren't training for any specific conflict. They were just... training for training's sake.

They probably couldn't handle it. Even King Kai couldn't use the technique himself.

Actually it seemed to me once they learned of Freeza they trained harder, or maybe that's just my interpreation.

Also technically, if you're gonna go by the Vegeta saga, the trump card was pretty much the spirit bomb and going beyond "kaioken times 2" , but I think Goku knew all along that he'd have to use it to beat him. Once again this is just my opinion, I could be very wrong. But hey, at least I tried right? RIGHT?!

I'm very sure that Ten and the others surpassed him at the time of their deaths at the very least. I think Kaio could match up against Raditz at the most.

Tien, Yamcha, and Chaozu were stronger than Goku was when he got there. I think that Toriyama just forgot to do anything with them because let's face it, after that they got pushed to the sidelines and Yamcha became a wuss.

Yeah, Kio Ken was one of the transformations Goku was using before SSJ so it was kind of influential to be used only by the main character. A special ability that only he was able to perform out of all the fighters.
