Super Sonic wrote: Same thing whenever Japan and other countries change our cartoons' music. We don't care what they do over there. (Seriously I've asked guys and the response is usually that).

As hype as the Transformers and X-Men Opening is (along with some of the TMNT Openings), I would personally have a problem if I created a series and another country decided to change aspects to it like the music. Or, at the very least, I'd have to look at the changes myself and see if they fit. That's just me, though.
I just wanted to answer this, but one of the guys who worked on Transformers Animated admitted that Japan outdid them on the Opening sequence and song. Then again, Transformers Animated's a rare case of the studio producing an entirely new Opening (as well as Ending) sequence for the show. Most times if Japan changes the Opening and Endings song, it's usually just Episode footage.

Either way, there was definitely approval for the new Opening sequence.

Wasn't there some guy dancing around and rapping to the lyrics of FUNi's DBGT? If I remember correctly, there was animation behind him. That video appears to be taken down.

Yeah, I vaguely recall the video. I'm pretty sure he was the contest winner and that he made it onto an extras option on one of the oldschool Funi dvd's. I think he won a bunch of DB swag, or $1,000 bucks or something along those lines.

In advance, sorry I used spoiler tags on the quotes, this was just looking like a book! Lol
The most coherent question that was asked, really the only thing I necessarily care to know personally. I hope to see the answer to this when he posts the interview!

This was a super awesome idea and a great catch on your part, kudos to your past self!
Please tell me somebody has access to this or info on which DVD it made it on to back then lol.
This was an awesome thing to do, thank you for taking the time to find the guy and also giving the fan community a voice here!

That's a great video.

The interview has been done for 2 and a half weeks, but I've been waiting for Marcus to send me pictures of himself and his studio, and he keeps forgetting. Several emails and phone calls later, and still no pictures.

So do you want me to post the interview and find some generic GT pictures to put in there for now? Or do you want to wait until he sends pictures?

You could probably post up some generics for now and when he does eventually send you the images you requested, you can update the article.

Agreed, I'm interested in what the man had to say, but I do hope he sends everything so we can see wat 12 years has done for him, if anything at all.

To be polite, I'd tell him you were going to post it in X days (within a week at most) due to demand and to please send the stuff by that time and if he's a little late you'll go with generic photos in the meantime and hope that's okay. That way he'll be ready in advance and know when to expect the interview.

Maybe he's just delaying for one reason or another.... I really hope the reaction is positive! Way too many people (myself included) completely dumped on him for doing a job that wasn't even his idea for the show. He only did the song cause Gen/Barry reached out to him, specifically hired him to do it, then gave full approval and posted it online along with interviews of themselves basically patting themselves on the back for having had the music replaced.

Can't help but feel bad for him, Funimation told him it'd be an awesome opportunity for him and his career but then the song got really bad reception online. :/

4Kids One Piece tried the same thing with a rap intro and the reaction to it was pretty much equally negative. I think it was basically just executives going with a current popular trend with American teens (rap music) and then trying to inject it into the show. Actually, come to think of it, 4Kids had a their singing group that posted music videos online. Never became popular, was kind of the kiss of death for the ambitious young teenagers that joined up there unfortunately. :(

That was very informative. I think I might google Shorty the Man for more of his works.

That was a very interesting interview. Have you ever considered trying to get one with Bruce Faulconer?

Oh, that reminds me, he has a few tracks from his solo album available on MySpace. I'll add that to the interview.

I've contacted Bruce several times, but he never replies to my emails.

Bruce, Kikuchi, and Shuki Levy are the only ones I have left to interview. I suppose there's the guy who did the Mega Man music on the Ocean dub, but I don't count him.

If I can't get Bruce I'll interview the people he hired instead, such as Scott Morgan. But that book will be a couple years from now.

Great interview! I'm glad he didn't catch all the criticism online at the time, woulda wrecked the poor dude! :)

Shorty the Man- "So hey, I appreciate the critics, and I’m sorry they changed it on you. But I still like it and there are other people who like it."

Fair enough. :)

Since he's a rapper and he mentioned that GT brought in a large increase in black audiences, I kind of wonder if any famous rapper liked GT and would want to collaborate with him because of it.

"I suppose there's the guy who did the Mega Man music on the Ocean dub, but I don't count him."

Lol. Trust me, there's lots of people still interested. The Ocean fans were a pretty hardcore contingent back in the day. There were a number of people who felt really loyal to the first 2 seasons and still do. Plus Ocean did a dub in England- I can't recall if they used Faulconer's music or something else but it's a shame they seemed to use Funimation's scripts.

For the first two seasons, we'd need to hear from either Shuki Levy or Ron Wasserman (rumored to have done a lot of the music?). I think what he meant was that he wouldn't be interviewing the guy who did the music for the Westwood dub (with the Ocean voices) in the UK & Canada since that music was just recycled from Mega Man.

You know, an interview with the rest of the Faulconer Productions crew might even be more interesting because it would probably be more candid rather than Bruce acting like he wrote all of that music.
