Power levels (especially the numbers) are massively overblown by the fanbase, but a series about fighting needs to maintain a clear and consistent hierarchy among its fighters.

Except Gohan flat-out told Cell that he had absolutely no desire to fight. It's never been his thing and I'm not sure why a lot of people pretend as if it was.fadeddreams5 wrote:It's not that Gohan didn't want to fight; it's that he knew he had to be the one to KILL Cell, which was a responsibility he didn't want to bear or saw the need to since a) he had no connections with the creature and b) Cell could just stop being evil and call it a day.

Which is why he later told Goku and Vegeta to fight Dabura for him instead of him taking a turn, and went into early retirement as a Super Hero....oh wait...Marlowe89 wrote:Except Gohan flat-out told Cell that he had absolutely no desire to fight. Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

It states the reason without ever developing it further. They don't show Freeza's training at all for such a ridiculous boost in such a short amount of time. I don't mind it much, but it's a problem for sure.fexus wrote:It's only bad writing if it never state the reason as to why Freeza powered up. But this does state the reason. If you don't agree, please state the reason as to why it's bad writing. Sure it isn't good writing but it really isn't anywhere near bad writing.

I wonder if this had been a weekly manga with Toriyama writing and Toyotaro drawing that the plot would be more filled out/less rushed.

As hilarious as I think a Freeza training montage would have been, I actually think not showing the training itself may have been for the better in this case. Anything that would have been chosen would still probably have been met with fan claims of how bullshit it was and that they know better than whatever was picked being a plausible reason for Freeza's drastic increase in power.

Not really. Dragon Ball itself is filled to the brim with problems, but I don't mind them much because it doesn't affect my enjoyment of the series.fexus wrote:It's only a problem if you mind it.Doctor. wrote:It states the reason without ever developing it further. FnF does not have much of a story to tell and expand DBZ like how BoG did it, one thing I can say for sure is that the fight scenes were awesome especially after Freeza's strongest punch (I say strongest because his fist was emitting a purple aura of some sort) and Goku just looked at him pointed his finger and did weird gestures after slowly punching him, and yes I have watched it in 4DX3D its good and the CGI wasnt half bad at all, I was expecting it to look bad but it actually fits (sort of)Baggie_Saiyan wrote:If we are tossing apples then according to IMDb this film is amazing:

Is the film heavily focused on 'splosions or martial arts?
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Resurrection '
I can definitely see why people would be greatly disappointed with this film. It does nothing to expand on the huge cliffhanger that BoGs set. RoF is pretty much a fanservice movie. And don't get me wrong as that's not entirely a bad thing, but when you have such a huge cliffhanger like 11 more universes existing in DB and then do absolutely nothing to build on that in a sequel it's going to anger a lot of fans.
I'm not very happy that nothing came of it either.

It stills baffles me how some of you guys call Freeza's power up ridiculous when we CLEARLY know why he got that power up. We knew this for years, we knew Freeza's final form was his true form, we know he was born with that power and never once trained. If that's the case then we know his potential should be enormous and guess what? When someone's hidden potential is that big, that means he or she can gain a gigantic upgrade in a less amount of time. I don't see no one complaining about Gohan catching up to Goku in the ROSAT despite the gap between them, why? Because Gohan's hidden potential is greater than Goku's, this should be common knowledge but for some reason you guys seem to conveniently ignore this.

This is only relevant to Dragonball due to the fact that the narrative is essentially built around character strength, but like in every arc of the manga, any sort of hierarchy is in a constant state of flux. We're not talking about fixed positions, but due to the long period of time between the end of the Manga and Battle of Gods, a lot of fans have come to consider the last recorded strengths of the characters as being set in stone.Rocketman wrote:a series about fighting needs to maintain a clear and consistent hierarchy among its fighters.
The modern fandom just isn't used to the overhaul, we're used to viewing Dragonball as an historic document, not as something new and changing. Imagine if, for example, the Manga was still in serialisation, and we were sat here discussing the weekly release of chapters from the Freeza arc. Would people be complaining about seemingly lurid power-ups as they are now? Would we be crying foul when the Room of Spirit and Time was introduced in the Cell arc? Or about Goku pulling Super Saiyan 3 out of nowhere in the Buu arc?

Didn't people who've seen the movie say it actually took Freeza 6 months and not 4 months? Could've sworn I saw this mentioned.

I guess Yajirobe has the potential to be stronger than Krillin then.NavonWise wrote:It stills baffles me how some of you guys call Freeza's power up ridiculous when we CLEARLY know why he got that power up. Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Resurrection '
That's my point, why was the timeframe so short? Because Freeza's potential is too much. It's not that different from when Gohan not only catches up to Goku but surpasses him in the ROSAT in a year of training. The more potential you have, the faster you gain power; if Gohan had Goku's lust for battle and Goku's intelligence when it comes to fighting, he would have been left Goku and Vegeta in the dust.Doctor. wrote:I've not seen someone call bullshit on Freeza's power jump.NavonWise wrote:It stills baffles me how some of you guys call Freeza's power up ridiculous when we CLEARLY know why he got that power up.
