Please! Help me start my Dragon Ball collection!
Hello everyone,
I love Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z and I want to start my collection of Manga and Movies as best as possible!
That said, I know that Funimation and Viz have realeased several times the same content for the mangas and movies, and I'm a little bit lost with all those versions around...
Is there an ULTIMATE version for the Manga and the Movies?
Manga:
For the manga, I've read that Viz has re-released an uncut version which uses the Kanzeban covers used in Japan, HOWEVER I've read that the quality of the paper is not good and that THEY'RE NOT UNCUT.
Also, is the artwork intact? are the kanjis for the sounds left in Japanese? or edited to english?
What's the best manga version I could buy? Shall I wait for a better release?
Movies:
I have made a post about this before...
Still unsure if I should go to Blu Ray or go for the DVD's.
I've read many comments that the "restoring" made from Funimation was not as good as it should have been, and some shots looks way off than what they look on the DVDs, and also the cropping.
I don't mind the price (I know there are DVD box-sets real cheap) but I'm looking for quality.
Also, I'm looking for a version that includes the original Japanese Music and Audio (I turn on the english subtitles).
I'm really confused on how to start my collection.
PS. I'm not interested on buying the Dragon Ball / Z/ GT TV show. I only like the Manga and the movies.
THANK YOU FOR HELP!

I don't know about the Manga, but you can easily find all 4 Dragon Ball Movies in one Complete Collection. They contain both English and Japanese Audio Tracks. There are also 3 Movie Packs covering the 13 original Dragon Ball Z Movies. They have both English and Japanese Audio Tracks as well, with two music options available for the English track. Dragon Ball Z Movie 14 can only be purchased on its own. You'll get the Extended no matter which release you buy. Hope that helps to a certain degree.

Hi Valerius!
Thank you for your answer. Yep. I'm considering getting those DVD boxes. I'm just hesitant if I should get those, or go for the Blu Ray versions...

Here's the cheapest recommendation I can give you.
Dragon Ball Movies Set
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dragon-Ball-Mov ... all+Movies
Dragon Ball Z Movie Pack 1:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dragon-Ball-Mov ... ll+Z+Movie
Dragon Ball Z Movie Pack 2:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dragon-Ball-Mov ... d_h__img_y
Dragon Ball Z Movie Pack 3:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dragon-Ball-Mov ... d_h__img_z
Dragon Ball (Series) I would recommend these sets 1-5.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dragon-Ball-Sea ... ragon+Ball
Dragon Ball Z (Series) I would recommend these sets 1-9.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dragon-Ball-Sea ... +Z+Blu+Ray
Dragon Ball GT (Series) I would recommend this set (includes the GT film 'A Heroes Legacy')
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dragon-Ball-Gt- ... on+Ball+GT
For the manga, I would recommend the VizBigs. Simply down to the quality of paper when compared with other versions. Here:

Re: Please! Help me start my Dragon Ball collection!
The best release for the movies would be the Dragon Box Movie Collection. That's a Japanese-only release, so you won't find any English subtitles. It does, however, contain significantly better quality audio than any other release out there. If you're looking for quality, that's your best bet.
If you don't want that, hold off for a while. There was talk of a new FUNi movie set on the horizon, but considering how long we've been waiting on Boo Kai from 'talk', maybe it's best to just pick up the Blu-rays.
The VizBigs are probably your best bet for the manga. The translation is the same across the board (pretty much), but the VizBigs contain a handful of colour chapters, and it's all printed on high quality paper.

Thank you for your recommendations as well...
Does the VizBigs are censored? is Mr Popo still edited? Also, are the japanese kanjis for the sound effects intact? or have they been replaced?

Re: Please! Help me start my Dragon Ball collection!
All the English releases are censored in some form or another. Popo's lips are filled in in every release. Also, it's katakana not kanji used for sound effects. I'm not sure on that one as I don't own them. I'm going to assume they are, though. I believe only the Full Colour release retains the sound effects.karkitos82 wrote:AjayLikesGaming

In the black and white releases of the manga the sound effects have been changed to "Bam", "Pow", Bang", etc. however the colored editions still have the original katakana.karkitos82 wrote:BlackCatScott,

It is a shame.
If UDON was to have the rights for Dragon Ball, it would be a different story...
Thanks Ajay!
