Resurrection F Box Office - $64.8 million Worldwide
Re: Resurrection F Box Office - Weekend Estimate ¥880 millio
Good find Beerus, I told Jacob the film cost in the millions, I think I did actually say it was probably around $5 million actually.
So according to that the movie made $8.2 million but that would be ¥975 million which really is about 43% more than the ¥684 million BoG opened to.
That seems waaaay too good to be true.
Edit: The staff of the Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' film revealed at a first-day screening event at Shinjuku's Wald9 theater in Tokyo on Saturday that the film will screen in 74 countries worldwide.

Frankly, based on the audience of the franchise and sales of materials over the last few years, I wouldn't be shocked if this was frontloaded.Bullza wrote:That seems waaaay too good to be true.
The only question is 'how much?'
The budget of Battle of Gods was not $500k. They received 50 million yen from the Agency for Cultural Affairs which is where people seem to get this number from, but that wasn't the full budget (Even at the time if you converted that to dollars it was over 600k.)johnboy1 wrote:Holy crap, that's almost ten times what they made BoG for.Lord Beerus wrote:Another interesting thing to note from the article is that the budget for the movie was apparently $5,000,000.

The idea that this film was made for a paltry 5 million is stunning to me considering that it's aimed to rake in more than 50 million + (BoG's gross international total). Toei would be mad to stop making these.
Re: Resurrection F Box Office - Weekend Estimate ¥880 millio
And here it is the Weekend actual is *drum roll*
¥960,586,350 ($8.1 million) / 715,727 [653 screens] - Dragon Ball Z: Revival of F
Huge, far more than I would have ever expected. It's a higher opening weekend than any other film had all of last year except for Yokai Watch.
It also puts it in the Top 10 for opening weekends for an Animated movie.
It's significantly more than the ¥684 million (561,000 admissions) that Battle of Gods.

The average TV episode costs $100,000-300,000. I know some can go for as low at $90,000. With this movie being about the length of four and a half episodes we're looking at a bare minimum of $450,000 or so. Chalk in some extra money for CG costs, music and voice actors.radrappy wrote:The idea that this film was made for a paltry 5 million is stunning to me considering that it's aimed to rake in more than 50 million + (BoG's gross international total). That's not how it works. With this movie being about the length of four and a half episodes we're looking at a bare minimum of $450,000 or so.
$5 million seems about right about for this.
Re: Resurrection F Box Office - Huge ¥960 ($8.1) million ope
Morishita Kouzou didn't give a five million dollar film to Yamamuro Tadayoshi, especially not for a movie cobbled together in under a year. Japanese animated films aren't as difficult to create--especially ones with as few cels as these films typically have--because the industry is constantly busy. The industry is an extremely well-oiled machine, it's going to be a hell of a lot more efficient to make a film of only this caliber. We already know from interviews that even Nozawa doesn't charge much for her services, there's no way the actors are somehow consuming massive amounts of the budget.Bullza wrote:That's not how it works. With this movie being about the length of four and a half episodes we're looking at a bare minimum of $450,000 or so.

If this (and the prior film) cost the equivalent of $5,000,000 US dollars somebody needs to fired for not knowing how the fuck to manage money.
Re: Resurrection F Box Office - Huge ¥960 ($8.1) million ope
This is nothing more than your assumption. For months now I've seen you complaining about this kind of thing, the animation, it being rushed etc so it seems as though you just want it to cost next to nothing but that's not the case.Morishita Kouzou didn't give a five million dollar film to Yamamuro Tadayoshi, especially not for a movie cobbled together in under a year.
You saying it costs X amount because the average TV episode costs Y amount and the movie is only the length of 4 and a half episodes is so obviously wrong. That would barely be the case if it were just a 90 minute TV movie, something similar to History of Trunks.
This logic of your does not work with a theatrical movie and it has been shown many times before.
I told you that it would definitley have cost at least a few million and now they're saying it's $5 million and that makes perfect sense. You saying there's no way it costs $1 million doesn't.

Holy crap! I am so proud of Dragon Ball

Re: Resurrection F Box Office - Huge ¥960 ($8.1) million ope
Great news for the franchise.
If it keeps this up then hopefully we'll start getting these movies once a year with bigger budgets.

It seems to be doing great... I am sure that it is going to do great overseas too. I think this means we're gonna get more movies. I also think it means the budget on the next one is going to be even bigger and we'll see even better animation. That gets me excited!

BOG made 20 million overseas so with this one being more action focused with a darker tone, having a classic villain and giving Vegeta a main role who's a fan favorite in the west,I can see it making 25-30 million.bleed0range wrote:I am sure that it is going to do great overseas too.

Battle of Gods was shown in 25 countries according to Anime News Network. They recently said Resurrection F was going to be shown in 74 countries, triple the amount.
So who knows what that could mean for the movie but it's great news for it.

Well, considering the movie is gonna be screened in way more countries than BOG was, I expect it to make 35-40 million internationally.sintzu wrote:BOG made 20 million overseas so with this one being more action focused with a darker tone, having a classic villain and giving Vegeta a main role who's a fan favorite in the west,I can see it making 25-30 million.bleed0range wrote:I am sure that it is going to do great overseas too.

Is it a safe bet that this will be the highest-grossing DB movie of all time? The number to beat is Evolution's $57.5 million, and I sure as Hell wouldn't mind DBE getting knocked off the top spot.

Re: Resurrection F Box Office - Huge ¥960 ($8.1) million ope
I wouldn't say it was safe because you can't really predict how something like this will do overseas but it'd only need to make $8 million more than Battle of Gods which would certainly be possible if they handled it's release well.
I'd say that it will though. It'd be disappointing infact if it didn't considering it's going to open in 50 more countries.

If this movie brings lots of money, which it will i can see a train of movies coming out ^^Making 10x the cost of making the movie is an insane profit. And i doubt they will stop there.

Based on Wikipedia :
BOG is the 20th highest grossing anime movie with 50.9 million.
In order for FNF to make it to the top 15 it'll have to make over 60.5 million.
If it gets a normal release in the west I think it'll be able to make over 74.2 million putting it in the top 10.
