RF is gonna have hundreds of more screenings worldwide than BOG did. If it's advertised well internationally, I think RF could make 75-80 million in total after all is said and done.sintzu wrote:Based on Wikipedia :
BOG is the 20th highest grossing anime movie with 50.9 million.
In order for FNF to make it to the to 15 it'll have to make over 60.5 million.
If it gets a normal release in the west I think it'll be able to make over 74.2 million putting it in the top 10.

Re: Resurrection F Box Office - Huge ¥960 ($8.1) million ope
So I just found something out and I better make it clear now so people don't get disappointed later on.
RoF did not make nearly as much money as BoG did on the Monday. It wont for the rest of the week either. In fact BoG will possibly pull in front of RoF's gross in a few days and will certainly be above it in admissions.
The reason for this is that BoG released in the middle of spring vacation whereas RoF did not.
When they say it opened 43% it's not exactly an apples to apples comparison because people may have waited to just see it on the Monday or Tuesday instead.
However RoF will eventually pull back in front when it takes advantage of the Golden Week and where BoG's spring vacation ended.
So basically it's going to lose ground to BoG then gain ground on it again and hopefully still make a lot more in the end.

The Last Detective Conan was a great success, even more than BOG. So i think we will have a good idea of the potential of ROF this week. If he can follow Conan, it will be great, but if it's not the case..

No matter what will happen in the next weeks
"The film also beat out the Furious 7, Detective Conan: Sunflowers of Inferno, and Eiga Crayon Shin-chan: Ora no Hikkoshi Monogatari ~Saboten Daishūgeki films, which all also opened in Japan last weekend. According to the Deadline entertainment news site, the film earned the biggest opening in Japan so far in 2015. The site also reported that Japan is the only territory in the world where Furious 7 did not open at #1."

This already makes me proud.
Vin Diesel will hate Dragon Ball from now on.

01 (--) Dragon Ball Z: Revival of F (Toei) DEBUT
02 (--) Detective Conan: Sunflowers of Inferno (Toho) DEBUT
03 (--) Furious 7 (Toho-Towa) DEBUT
This weekend was expected to be big, even one of the biggest of 2015, but it more than exceeded those expectations. The Top 10 combined for ¥3.129 billion, making it the 7th biggest weekend of all-time, and the 2nd biggest non-Summer weekend of all-time!
>Dragon Ball Z: Revival of F lead the pack with an astonishing debut. The film opened on 653 screens, a new record for a domestic film thanks to being the first ever domestic IMAX 3D release, opening to nearly ¥1 billion over the weekend.
The latest entry (film #18) in the Dragon Ball franchise, grossed a massive ¥960,586,350 ($8.1 million) with 715,727 admissions over the weekend. It's opening achieved: A new franchise record, by a considerable margin; a spot among the Top 10 biggest animated openings of all-time (#10), and the 2nd biggest opening weekend of all-time for the month of April, behind just Alice in Wonderland.
Any film released for the remainder of the year is going to have a very hard time beating this debut. Dragon Ball Z: Revival of F is likely to be frontloaded, but look for it to finish somewhere between ¥4-4.5 billion ($35-40 million).

And that's only for Japan. Imagine the worldwide box office. I have no doubt that it's going to beat Battle of Gods by a wide margin. Considering the new film focuses heavily on action cuts, more hardcore fans surely will be attracted by it.
I estimate it to be somewhere $100 million in term of U.S. dollar by the end of the year. That includes DVD sales.

I don't think it will make that much. I think realistically it will make $75-80 million by the end of the year, including BD and DVD sales.DragonBalllKaiHD wrote:And that's only for Japan. I know that Battle of Gods made at least $9.7 million from DVD/Blu Ray sales. That includes the Japanese sales as of the end of 2013, the first 4 weeks of sales in US and the day 1 sales of the extended edition in Japan.
I'm not sure what other countries it was released in, UK, France, Hong Kong are a couple I know but that's it.
All in all, I dunno maybe it did $20 million? So overall it did around $70 millionish.
When I made the Box Office thread for BoG for Battle of Gods I said I'd like it to make $50 million which it did, I suppose for this movie...I'm gonna go with $70 million. If can make that much then fantastic.

This is what happens when you make a DBZ movie that focuses more on fighting.

Okay, given that, I think $100 million is very possible by the end of the year.

Might be more actually. The movie sold at least 80,949 DVD's and Blu Rays by the end of 2013. Using the retail prices given on this site it works out that it made ¥529 million which at the time in dollars was $5.2-5.3 million.BOG made that much money on DVD and Blu-Ray?
According to The Numbers it sold $4.1 million worth of DVD/Blu Rays in 4 weeks in US.
Then in Japan the Extended edition made roughly ¥8.1 million which is about $680,000.
So that's actually $10 million with all that. Factor in the rest and I don't see why it couldn't be double with the rest of the sales, sales in other countries and digital sales.
Re: Resurrection F Box Office - Huge ¥960 ($8.1) million ope
Tuesday Estimated Gross - ¥53 million ($447,000)
Total - ¥1.105 billion ($9.28 million)
That's a big drop from yesterday's gross, I'm not sure why but the same thing happened with all the other films so it must be normal. I'll find out why later.
Edit: Its because Wednesday is discount day so people wait the next day instead. So it should make more tomorrow.

Wednesday Estimated Gross - ¥59 million ($500,000)
Total - ¥1.164 billion ($9.78 million)
Admissions Estimate - 864,000
In comparison after 5 days Battle of Gods had made ¥1.146 billion with 988,000 admissions.
RoF looks to fall behind tomorrow. It had such a large opening but the weekdays haven't been so great from what I can tell, it's behind Conan and Fast 7. Not sure if its performing as expected or if this disappointing or what. It is just an estimate though.

Re: the new movie falling behind Battle of Gods:
Let's not forget that Battle of Gods opened during spring vacation, when kids were out of school and could go out to the movies in droves during weekdays. Resurrection 'F' opened during a non-holiday period with school in session, where that was not possible (without mass truancy, at least). Things should pick up again once we get to Golden Week.

If the movie can't follow Conan or Furious 7, it's really disappointing. Maybe with Golden Week, he will equal BOG but he won't reach his goal. I'm a bit sad to be honest.

Detective Conan is huge is Japan. And Furious 7 had already raked in more than $1 billion and dominated in every county in the world in the box office. RF, no matter how good it would it do initially was always up against it with that kind of competition. BOG had the comfort of no major movie being released close to it and being released during Golden Week. Just give the movie time. It will do very well.CortoMaltese wrote:If the movie can't follow Conan or Furious 7, it's really disappointing. Maybe with Golden Week, he will equal BOG but he won't reach his goal. Well if it somehow does not reach the goal domestically(I reckon it will), don't forget there is still 70+ oversea's countries that will screen film.
