You have a good point, but I think it was probably for recognition purposes. They/Toriyama likely wanted to emphasize that Goku was actually tapping into the full power of the magenta form that he absorbed from BoG. It's basically a "Super Saiyan God" variation of the first Super Saiyan form, hence Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan.Hitiro wrote:The name implies that the original form still has bearing on what Goku is doing. Which isn't the case. Goku has already absorbed the Godly Ki into his base form so SSJGod was nothing more than a power-up. So seeing as the upgrade for SSJ amplifies his Godly Ki naturally it would make sense to say something more like GPSSJ where his SSJ has god power.
So what exactly is this SSGSS?

Is SSGSS an official term? I thought it was something coined within the community. Unless I've missed something. I thought this upgraded SSJ form is supposed to be increasing the godly power Goku has beyond what he had in BoG with the SSJGod form? In that face it is just a SSJ form that is amplifying Godly Ki. Goku, in dragon ball heroes, is already called Saiyan Beyond God. So it would make more sense to call it SBGSSJ if we're trying to emphasize anything.Marlowe89 wrote:You have a good point, but I think it was probably for recognition purposes. Apparently you've been living under a rock. lolHitiro wrote:Is SSGSS an official term? I thought it was something coined within the community. Unless I've missed something.
It's being used in magazines for the movie's promotion, for merchandise (figures, gashapon, etc) and video games (Heroes, Xenoverse, Zenkai Battle Royale, Dokkan Battle, Discross, etc). It's as official as it can be.
"Saiyan surpassing God" is the name of the ability given to Goku's transformation mechanic on the card. It doubles as the name/description for his base form when he powers up to the god level he absorbed from Battle of Gods, but when he goes blue it is specifically named SSGSS.Hitiro wrote:Goku, in dragon ball heroes, is already called Saiyan Beyond God.
Re: So what exactly is this SSGSS?
Sorry, I've not been keeping up with much after I found out that it was SSJ with Godly power. I honestly thought it was a term coined within the community because it is a god awful naming of the form. I would have expected it to have a much better name officially, lol.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:Apparently you've been living under a rock. lol

I'm still amazed that out of all possible names they could have called it they landed on Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan. Super Saiyan 2 and 3 weren't exactly great names but this is just so lame and sounds so odd.

It may be odd but it fits pretty well for the context of the form is. The new form is effectively Super Saiyan God infused with Super Saiyan. I mean, what would you call it?Bullza wrote:I'm still amazed that out of all possible names they could have called it they landed on Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan. Spoiler:
Re: So what exactly is this SSGSS?
Kei17 said it was "SSJ infused with godly power." Rather than "SSJ infused with SSJGod." What Kei17 said seems to suggest it is just the SSJ using Godly Ki. Which is why on the previous page I suggested GPSSJ(God Power SSJ). Or even SBGSSJ(Saiyan Beyond God SSJ).Lord Beerus wrote:It may be odd but it fits pretty well for the context of the form is. What's the difference? "Godly power" and "Super Saiyan God's power" both refer to the same thing.Hitiro wrote:Kei17 said it was "SSJ infused with godly power." Rather than "SSJ infused with SSJGod." Re: So what exactly is this SSGSS?
SSG 2. The red form we've seen would be SSG 1. SSG 2 would be that plus SSJ power. And the fact that Goku still went golden at the end of the last movie would be explained by him simply not having gotten the hang of using the god power with SSJ yet.Lord Beerus wrote:It may be odd but it fits pretty well for the context of the form is. Re: So what exactly is this SSGSS?
I guess you could still think that Goku was a Super Saiyan infused with godly power when he fought Beerus. While now he is effectively infused with Super Saiyan God's power in its fullest. The name doesn't bother me at all, I'm getting used to it.Marlowe89 wrote:What's the difference? Re: So what exactly is this SSGSS?
Actually there is a difference; "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan" is the result of the combination of the regular Super Saiyan transformation with the powers of the Super Saiyan God.
If it were a "fusion" of the Super Saiyan transformation and the Super Saiyan God transformation, then the hair should be orange, you know.

Re: So what exactly is this SSGSS?
Well, yeah. That would be the logical conclusion to draw, given that Goku refers to the form as a Super Saiyan with the power of Super Saiyan God according to Julian and the Kanzenshuu summary. I just wish Toriyama or the movie itself was a bit more specific about its background - did Vegeta acheive SSG off screen, for example?Hugo Boss wrote:I guess you could still think that Goku was a Super Saiyan infused with godly power when he fought Beerus. Re: So what exactly is this SSGSS?
I suppose SSG Vegeta happened between Battle of Gods and Ressurrection F, since Vegeta more or less seems to keep up with Goku's performance against Whis and they didn't exactly had time to do the ritual during Freeza's invasion. But I guess the movie tries to surprise us with SSGSS Vegeta in a way.Marlowe89 wrote:Did Vegeta acheive SSG off screen, for example?
Re: So what exactly is this SSGSS?
Something that doesn't use the phrase "Super Saiyan" TWICE in span of five words? I mean, Super Saiyan God 2nd Grade would've been a lot less awkward even it is just as cumbersome.Lord Beerus wrote:The new form is effectively Super Saiyan God infused with Super Saiyan. To a strong man, the end justifies the means. To a stronger man, the means justify the end.
Re: So what exactly is this SSGSS?
One suggests that the SSJ form is infused with the SSJGod form. The other suggests that the SSJ form is infused with the Godly Ki. I'm pretty sure that is different. One would offer only the power that comes with being in SSJGod. The other would offer power beyond SSJGod as only the proportion of Godly Ki would affect it.Marlowe89 wrote:What's the difference? Re: So what exactly is this SSGSS?
Super Saiyan infused with Godly ki doesn't at all suggest that it would go beyond Super Saiyan God itself, given that Godly ki was never confirmed to be the sole factor involved in Super Saiyan God's transformational strength. Even the characters have distinguished between SSG's level of power and just Godly ki, so amplifying the latter with Super Saiyan doesn't provide us with a way of comparing the two.Hitiro wrote:One suggests that the SSJ form is infused with the SSJGod form. Re: So what exactly is this SSGSS?
SSJ inused with Godly Ki certainly does suggest it could go beyond SSJGod. The latter choice would just mean that SSJ is now what SSJGod was.Marlowe89 wrote:Super Saiyan infused with Godly ki doesn't at all suggest that it would go beyond Super Saiyan God itself, given that Godly ki was never confirmed to be the sole factor involved in Super Saiyan God's transformational strength. Re: So what exactly is this SSGSS?
It could go beyond it, but it doesn't suggest that it actually does. There's no way of comparing those two forms simply by virtue of them sharing the same ki source. The former choice is too vague in regards to strength.Hitiro wrote:SSJ inused with Godly Ki certainly does suggest it could go beyond SSJGod.
As for the latter choice, we have both Julian and the Kanzenshuu summary maintaining that it's stated to be Super Saiyan with the power of Super Saiyan God. The best we can do at this point is wait for the film in full to know for sure.
Re: So what exactly is this SSGSS?
Something shorter and snappier than what they came up with. Infused Super Saiyan God? Full Power Super Saiyan God? Mastered Super Saiyan God? True Super Saiyan God?I mean, what would you call it?
To be honest just Super Saiyan God 2 would have been just fine with me.
Re: So what exactly is this SSGSS?
The last two names you gave don't fit at all. Though "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan" is indeed horrible as fuck and disposable, it fits pretty damn well in its own context.
One must have a pretty damn creativity to come up with a good name and fitting with its meaning.
