Saiyans Living Through an Exploding Planet (RoF Spoilers)
"When Frieza shoots an energy wave at Krillin as he is giving Goku a Senzu Bean, Vegeta deflects it away, killing Sorbet. After being beat up by Vegeta, Frieza realizes he cannot defeat him, so he blows up the earth, killing Vegeta."
So even with all that power Saiyans still DIE from a simple planet exploding. WHAT ?

The Bardock TV Special wasn't written by Toriyama. In all his material, including Russrection F here, Saiyans need to breath and thus will eventually die of suffocation in space.
Also, this should probably be in the in-universe section and people are probably going to get upset at unmarked F spoilers.

We saw in the flashback image that frieza had of bardock in the manga that he was in space doing just fine when he was fighting with Freeza.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:The Bardock TV Special wasn't written by Toriyama. We have no idea how high planet Vegeta's atmosphere reaches above the planet, as well as the fact that we have no idea how long Bardock has been up there in the manga. He could have very well charged up there intending to take a final shot at Freeza and then die of suffocation as the planet's savior.

Re: Saiyans still can't tank 1 planet exploding on them ?
Please don't bring that atmosphere cop out. It is quite clear he is outside the planet. Also in the movie after Vegeta beat down Freeza had reverted to his 4th form. How hard is it just to kill the guy at this point even if you had a small amount of time left with an attack ?TheDevilsCorpse wrote:We have no idea how high planet Vegeta's atmosphere reaches above the planet, as well as the fact that we have no idea how long Bardock has been up there in the manga. Whis states that Freeza survived because he can survive in space. Vegeta can't.
It's directly stated multiple times in the manga that the saiyans cannot survive in space. It is clearly shown that Vegeta almost suffocates due to being underwater too long.
One scan arguably showing one saiyan in space, very close to his planet, with absolutely no time frame given how long he was there, doesn't disprove all of that.

I think you mean Goku with being underwater too long, and that actually never happens in the manga.saunasolmu wrote:Whis states that Freeza survived because he can survive in space. Vegeta can't.

in fact goku was able to hold his breath underwater for so long in the manga that he had time to position out his ki blast and then synchronize an attack to hit Freeza.KentalSSJ6 wrote:I think you mean Goku with being underwater too long, and that actually never happens in the manga.saunasolmu wrote:Whis states that Freeza survived because he can survive in space. Saiyans cannot breathe in space. They need air. Sure they can hold their breath longer but they cannot breathe in space.

Even still. How the hell does Vegeta not finish Freeza off before suffocating ?fexus wrote:Saiyans cannot breathe in space. They need air. Sure they can hold their breath longer but they cannot breathe in space.

And you just contradicted yourself. You just said yourself that Goku had to hold his breath underwater. If he has to hold his breath underwater, where they is no breathable oxygen, he wouldnt be able to breath in space, which is a vacuum also with no oxygen.shonenhikada wrote:in fact goku was able to hold his breath underwater for so long in the manga that he had time to position out his ki blast and then synchronize an attack to hit Freeza.KentalSSJ6 wrote:I think you mean Goku with being underwater too long, and that actually never happens in the manga.saunasolmu wrote:Whis states that Freeza survived because he can survive in space. This isn't a contradiction. My thead title is saiyans can't tank 1 planet explosion. As evident by the fact that vegeta dies from the earth blowing up.KentalSSJ6 wrote:

Sure saiyans cna't surivve in space INDEFINITELY. I never contested that. However, they can survive a little bit. Which makes vegeta dying and Freeza not even after the planet exploding a major WTF. Seriously ALL THAT POWER AND APPARENTLY our heroes still can't tank a planet exploding and holding their breath a little while in space to finish a fight.

So let me see. Can knock back planet destroying beams, and tank them. Yet, can't handle a planet blowing up...KentalSSJ6 wrote:Maybe they just arent as strong as you like to think they are.shonenhikada wrote:This isn't a contradiction. If you're looking for consistent character strength, you came to the wrong franchise.

- Goku has been shown to need to breathe which made it impossible for him to be underwater for long periods of time.shonenhikada wrote:Bardock storyline says otherwise.KentalSSJ6 wrote:Saiyans cant breathe in space.
- Freeza states that Saiyans can't survive in space, unlike him.
- Even in real life, humans can survive a minute or two in space since they can survive that long without oxygen. There's no reason for it to not be the same with Saiyans, perhaps even longer.
Freeza, with only half his body, and basically no Ki, survived planet Namek blowing up in his face.shonenhikada wrote:This isn't a contradiction. My thead title is saiyans can't tank 1 planet explosion. As evident by the fact that vegeta dies from the earth blowing up.

From that alone, I think it's safe to say that any character stronger than him would be able to survive a planet exploding, if they can survive in space.

Oh no, I meant Vegeta getting up from that lake after Zarbon knocked him out. It seems to me he's gasping for air.KentalSSJ6 wrote:I think you mean Goku with being underwater too long, and that actually never happens in the manga.saunasolmu wrote:Whis states that Freeza survived because he can survive in space.
