Man most of this sounds great! I really am getting impatient now lol, I wanna watch the film now!!!AjayLikesGaming wrote:Still working on my proper review, but I wrote up a load of general thoughts. They're not in any order or anything, but hopefully you'll get a general overview of how I felt, and maybe some extra info.
Should have the full review wrapped up within the hour! It's a bit more critical that this might lead you to believe, though.Spoiler:- Pilaf bringing Freeza's eye to Sorbet and Tagoma is amazing. Their freaked out reaction as it opens to stare at them is wonderful.
- Maximum the Hormones' 'F' feels very out of place as it plays during Freeza's emergence from the tank. His revival is pretty cool, though. You can see his muscles growing back. It's pretty grim, but I guess it works in making the audience feel uncomfortable.
- It's very strange to see Freeza walking around in his first form. His wiggling tail is very creepy.
- As he announces he's going to train, he's surrounded by a very fierce aura. Lots of beautiful effects and sounds. Short but sweet.
- Jaco spends a majority of the time interacting with Bulma. Their dynamic is a highlight of the film. They're hilarious together.
- Jaco's drawing of Freeza is amazingly bad.
- Kuririn's bike chase is surprisingly cool. Tanaka's Kuririn is sounding a lot like Luffy, though.
- One Piece theme tune ringtone!!
- Physically seeing Kuririn with half a shaved head is very weird. 18 and Kuririn's interactions are pleasant. Her 'cool' or 'handsome' (kakkoii?) line as he flies off is cute.
- Bulma going off on Freeza is amazing. Jaco is absolutely mortified at her actions. I noticed that the Kanzenshuu summary says Kuririn tells her that Freeza has powered up, but unless I'm misremembering, it's Gohan who says that to her. I distinctly remember laughing at his 'sumimasen' since Bulma turns to Freeza is yells 'GOMENNASAIIIIII!!’ My Japanese isn't great so maybe I missed something.
- The mass battle is amazing. Kame Sen'nin's staff breaking after some fancy moves is hilarious. Jaco spinning around in circles firing off his gun only to stand up and strike a fancy pose is just perfect for his character.
- Duplicates in Freeza's CGI army are extremely obvious and very unsightly.
- Kuririn having a George of the Jungle moment and crashing into a tree is amazing. Gohan saving him afterwards is very cool. Don't think we've ever seen time slow down for everyone but the character in Dragon Ball?
- Piccolo crushing enemies with his weighted clothing is yet another comedy highlight. Lots of Toriyama-esque gags in this segment. Though maybe Yamamuro, going by that Imagine-Nation interview?
- Gohan seems to get the most screen time in the section. His transformation scene as he steps in for Piccolo against Shisami is great. Horrifying when Freeza kills him. Sumitomo's score really stands out in that part. Extremely dark.
- Goku and Vegeta fighting Whis is one of the best parts of the film. The animation combined with the setting is beautiful. Lots of flowers and trees, petals flying around. Really pretty stuff. I don't think we've seen proper 2 vs 1 fighting in the series for a while. Not with this amount of fluidity, at least.
- Whis making total fools of Goku and Vegeta is nice to see. Really makes you want to see Whis in action properly. Maybe in the third film? Feels like such a tease as is.
- Beerus destroying a planet by sneezing is perfect. As is his drooling over pizza.
- Beerus and Whis are totally drawn in by Bulma's sundae offering after the Oracle Fish tells them about the message. Very funny moment when they call her back and she starts shouting at them.
- Vegeta's hesitance to hold Goku's hand is great. He looks so embarrassed and pulls his hand away the second they arrive at the scene.
- Kame Sen'nin's bulky muscles seem to shrink in fear once Freeza transforms. Quite a funny bit.
- Lots of chanting in Sumitomo's score this time around.
- Jaco's reaction after Bulma points out the Saiyans is another great moment.
- Goku talks very low for a lot of the later parts of the film. Very serious side of the character that wasn't present in Battle of Gods. Quite cocky at times, too.
- Similarly, Vegeta is very serious and stern this time. Lots of power behind Horikawa's performance.
- Similar shot to Battle of Gods - http://images6.fanpop.com/image/photos/ ... 40-360.jpg - Goku stood against Freeza but against the clouds.
- Animation is a significant improvement over Battle of Gods. CGI aside, a lot of the film is very pretty. Despite Yamamuro's reluctance to actually move the camera, the movement within the static shots is highly detailed. It's like real kung fu in the air. I liked it, but I wished it felt more dynamic.
- Both transformations felt a bit underwhelming. Sumitomo's chanty music tries to spice things up a bit, but it lacks the power that we had in the series. Battle of Gods was fairly similar. I think the issue is that there's no real struggle behind them, they just kinda happen. They do look very cool, I'll give them that. I'm all for the Blueper Saiyan and Golden PokeFreeza.
- Freeza acknowledging Beerus was amusing but felt out of place. Shen Long's reaction felt strange in Battle of Gods, too. I understand they're trying to establish this character, but it's at the cost of making familiar characters act in a way we're not used to. In the middle of a fierce battle, it's a bit incongruous.
- Fighting on top of a volcano and underwater was cool. The latter especially as it reminded me of the original Freeza arc.
- Amazing music as Goku takes a direct punch to the face before one-inch punching Freeza. Scenes that follow this are very impressive. Very detailed throws and jabs. Fast paced, too, so they feel like they belong.
- Freeza's tantrum after being Kamehameha'd is indescribable. Nakao absolutely kills it. It's truly horrifying. I was actually a bit disappointed that he just falls to his knees afterwards. A proper last ditch fight after that would have been amazing. I guess it might have lessened Vegeta's moment, though.
- Goku being shot through the heart still took me by surprise even though I knew it was coming. Freeza beating the ever loving crap out of him afterwards is horrible. Nozawa absolutely nails the screams. They're truly painful in the best way.
- Again, Vegeta's transformation feels a bit lacklustre. Maybe because I knew it was coming? Either way, the beat down that follows is amazing. The ramped slow mo effect is very unusual, but I really appreciated it. It's nice to have a battle fought on the ground, for once.
- Beams of fire shooting out of the earth are a nice call-back to Namek.
- No real tension following this as the information about being able to restore planets is always in the back of your minds. Even if you didn't remember that from earlier in the film, it's Dragon Ball, you know how these things work. Would have preferred a tenser fight rather than relying on contrivances like this. If this was released in chronological order, then sure, but it doesn't work nearly as well with the information we have.
- Cheesy black and white rewind and the weird half CG/half animation Kamehameha saves the day. Feels a bit like an anti-climax.
- Funny character interaction at the end between Goku and Vegeta. Vegeta isn't happy about Goku stealing that kill. Nothing to open up new doors for a sequel. Feels like a neatly tied up Toei film ending.
- Freeza's post-credits 'noooooooo' is perfect.

I'm really curious to see this, most of all; Freeza's character is the major redeeming factor for this film, to me.His revival is pretty cool, though. You can see his muscles growing back. It's pretty grim, but I guess it works in making the audience feel uncomfortable.

How do you know it's a normal laser ring?rereboy wrote:A laser ring that can seriously injure or kill someone as powerful as Goku? Why don't they just focus on arming the soldiers with laser rings then? No one would be able to resist them.GeeRod wrote:
So what? Sorbet's ring may be powerful enough to injury a very strong opponent. Stop trying to find inconsistence everywhere...is annoying.
The inconsistency easily pops out for itself, I don't need to look for it. And telling people to stop using logical arguments to criticize the plot of the movie just sounds like you are uncomfortable hearing critique.
And the answers to those inconsistency also easily pops out. But some people just don't want that.

You're not supposed to make up an answer yourself. If no information is provided, it being a normal ring is the most logical assumption.fexus wrote:How do you know it's a normal laser ring?

It being a normal standard laser ring is okay if we see anyone besides Sorbet wearing it which we don't.Doctor. wrote:You're not supposed to make up an answer yourself. Hang on a sec, we have not seen this laser ring before in DB right? It's like saying oh Cell only got hit by a normal final flash that is why he survived.
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Resurrection '
Did Sorbet use it before or even after firing it at Goku? It could be a one shot thing.Doctor. wrote:It being a powered-up laser ring is okay if that information is given which it's not.fexus wrote:It being a normal standard laser ring is okay if we see anyone besides Sorbet wearing it which we don't.

I'm not sure; it'd be nice if someone with Volume F would do us a favour of checking if the script has anything about the ring.fexus wrote:Did Sorbet use it before or even after firing it at Goku? It could be a one shot thing.

If you have to give a percentage of screen time to every Z fighter in the 1000 fight, what would it be?AjayLikesGaming wrote:Still working on my proper review, but I wrote up a load of general thoughts. Really I don't see how it's such a big deal. There are a lot of stories/series where a weaker person can hurt or even beat a stronger one, and it's happened before in DB too. I don't get why people keep obsessing over it.

Would you find it okay if Mr. Satan managed to blow up Cell with a rocket launcher when the latter was busy fighting Goku?Polyphase Avatron wrote:Really I don't see how it's such a big deal. I wouldn't, I'd find it incredibly stupid and inconsistent.

That wouldn't happen because Cell doesn't let his guard down in front of his opponent like Goku.Doctor. wrote:Would you find it okay if Mr. Satan managed to blow up Cell with a rocket launcher when the latter was busy fighting Goku?Polyphase Avatron wrote:Really I don't see how it's such a big deal. Besides, Cell has Freeza's DNA and his race has a very high natural toughness (surviving on an exploding planet despite being out of ki).

That is no way near the same thing that happened though, Sorbet did not blow up Goku, he simply hurt him and Freeza pounced before Goku could recover.Doctor. wrote:Would you find it okay if Mr. Satan managed to blow up Cell with a rocket launcher when the latter was busy fighting Goku?Polyphase Avatron wrote:Really I don't see how it's such a big deal. Yea he did, against Pilaf and co. since they were planning on attacking him, there was a difference tho, his attack on Pilaf and co were flick like, his hit on Goku looked like a laser.fexus wrote:Did Sorbet use it before or even after firing it at Goku? Also about the laser damaging Goku.... Freeza knows the attack was weak (he was mocking Goku on how it feels to be pierced by an attack of a weak soldier), but he knows that Goku is soft, hence he still went with the plan on catching Goku off-guard. Whis did say that because of Goku's relaxed nature while fighting he leaves his body very weak/fragile, I dont get what the problem is, it was already foreshadowed and was expected to happen.

As it has been mentioned, there are several examples of Goku being caught by surprise with attacks in the manga and he never got really hurt. No one is saying that is wasn't foreshadowed in the movie itself.SansrivaaL wrote: I dont get what the problem is, it was already foreshadowed and was expecting that would happen.
