Toonami is airing Kai at the moment, so I wonder how this will be released in the US on TV? Will Toonami drop Kai and air Super instead or will Super air on Nick Toons with Bandai America making a new toy line for the show?

As far as I'm concerned this is a sequel to the manga, in anime format. I still can't believe this. This is insane. All those poor 3rd movie speculations can be put to rest for now sadly lol.

I wouldn't say this puts the nail in the coffin. They could easily use the show to build up a solid arc or two (similar to the Saiyan and Freeza build up) over the next two years and finish it out with a film in 2017. Not saying they will, but we have new DB episodes in 2015, so pretty much anything is possible at this point.

I personally can't wait to see the new animation. I know a lot of people hated GT(Myself included. well...I don't want to say I hate it but I'm not a fan of it much.) but I actually liked the animation of GT.
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

No way dude. There'll be a dude more powerful than Buu who invades Earth and beats up all the supporting cast, then Goku will show up and kill him in base, and then everybody will wank over how it's totally unlike GT. It'll be great.

In terms of length, I'd say 13 is a minimum, as with any modern Anime series, but given the size of Dragonball's brand, a full order of 52 wouldn't be shocking - but that said, I think this may well be one of those things that Toei 'plays by ear', that is, they will have a set figure in their head to produce, but based on success, it may extend beyond that.

What I will say, however, is that Toriyama's apparent involvement is quite important to how Toei will brand this. They know that with properties like One Piece, 'filler' which isn't attached to the original author tends to bomb. I think it's also worth mentioning, that back when GT was announced, Toriyama was quoted as being involved too - and we know from history exactly how little that involvement actually extended. Let's see how this pans out.

That would require an obscene amount of babysitting. And I happen to like eating, sleeping, working, recreation, and various other activities that aren't refreshing Kanzenshuu.
If it's stickied and says "NEWS UPDATES ONLY (No Discussion)" in the title, and explains in the OP that it's only for news updates, I would hope it wouldn't need to be babysat. But you're probably right.
If all you want is news, that's what the website is for. The world won't end if it takes the site staff an hour or two to complete a proper article versus the mass rush of instant reactions. And besides which, a thread without any discussion in it may as well not be a thread at all.
I like discussion too, but it's annoying when everyone is talking about some new photo or video, and you have to dig through 50 pages to find what they're talking about. Also, the main site doesn't update with every new detail, which is understandable since they do have lives outside of Kanzenshuu.
With Kai as a precedent, we may end up making a new subforum anyway.
This would be ideal, then all new updates can have their own threads, and no more page digging.

Can we maybe give this news and its discussion thread just one day before tainting it with toxic pessimism?

Anyway, I too woke up to this news not an hour ago. I'm excited. Can't wait to find out about the story, and how it will (presumably) build upon BoG and RF.

Wouldn't it be weird if SUPER literally did pick up after the Majin Buu Saga and we had no Super Saiyan God, no Beerus/Whis, no Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan (or whatever they're calling it)...yeah, I hope that's not the case.

That would be legitimately awesome and would reverse my opinion of it.

All I'll say right now is I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm currently taking the stance of not speculating what might be in it though. That way I can't ruin it for myself before it's even out. I know what I'd like to see, but keeping the lid on that.

Kinda saw this coming when Toriyama said that the new movie really got all kinds of story ideas flowing though.
"I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what." - Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird (1960)

Maybe they pick up where revival of F left off and go from there.

Really? Fair enough I guess, if you're not a fan of those forms. I just think there's enough debate about the timeline of Dragon Ball without jumping back in time again

I was expecting a new anime series eventually, it was the logical step for TOEI after BOG/ROF & Kai remaster but I certinately didn't expect it so soon. I was sure they would want to finish off Kai & Movie #3 first. Not that I'm complaining, this is definitely exciting despite any worries. Too bad we're still stuck in 10-year perior at the end of Z though, we can kiss goddbye adult Goten/Trunks...

We might get a 3rd movie that's set before this new arc.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

They just said it was after Boo, we don't know if it's going to be in the 28th TB or not.

I don't know how to react at this, if this continue the new movies' trend (more likely) I'll happily skip it.

Is anyone else a bit worried about the quality of the anime given the timing of the announcement? Kai is set to end soon, but how long has this series been in production, is this going to be GT all over again? Sailor Moon Crystal had an announcement a year before it came out.

There's no way this will top the manga, but I'm still excited!

EDIT: I think I great way to start the series would be from re-animating the final episode of Z, a nice break-in.
