I do hope we get some interesting and new designs outta people...and some get to GROW UP! Lookin at you Goten and Trunks! Maybe mature a little and stop being annoying? Would be nice!

I would love to have the tone of Yo Son Goku. Compared to BoG(Which was a boring light hearted tone) and from what we know of FnF/RF(Action pack with no middle). A nice mixture.

If it means more Gokû entertaining himself by trolling Vegeta, I am all for it. :3

This franchise was looking dead around 2010-2012. The worst games in a while, DBKai was cheap and was a failure in Japan, they were trying to show GT on Nicktoons, no one really cared, etc.

Now, there's actually a chance that it could have the same success it had in the early 2000's in America, or maybe even *gasp* the same success it had in the 90's in Japan.

I'm so happy.


Anyway, I hope the tone can be Battle of Gods-esque, but also cross into more emotionally charged territory like in the Frieza saga.

I know that from me this probably sounds crazy, but if we can't get Bruce Faulconer sent over to Toei to score this show as it should be, and Yamamoto can't be re-hired with a strict check on his work before using it, I actually hope that they get Kikuchi to score this. I still think his compositions are nothing but him farting into the microphone and random clashes of noise, but after seeing Sumitomo's job on Kai 2.0, despite knowing that he was barely paid and that he did extremely well scoring Battle of Gods, I still have a bit of doubt that he can properly score this show.

Animation quality doofus. Not only has DB not looked that great by modern anime standards and budgets, be we have also suffered from a lot of CGI usage ranging from horrible to shoddy at best and that was just in movies. I shudder at the thought of just how much CGI can and likely will be implemented through a series that will go on for who knows how long. If Super DBZ ends up looking like a DB Heroes commercial with poor CGI in the mix, id rather it not happen.

You make a lot of good points. Animation has been very hit and miss from Toei and Toei doesn't have great track record with CGI, which I explicitly expect to be in Dragon Ball Super.

There has be a trailer in the next few weeks, considering the anime is debuting in July. I also don't remember Dragon Ball Z getting a trailer for its anime in 1989. But I could be wrong.

On one hand, yay a new DBZ series. On the other, a new DBZ series. So.....

What's there to be concerned about? I still believe that Toriyama can tell good stories.

For me there are a few things.

The animation is the first concern, i'm not a fan of CGI for Dragon Ball, it just doesn't look right. The character designs look really odd at times too. I also don't think the character designs blend in well with the backgrounds, it's like the characters have just been placed on the screen.

Akira Toriyama himself is the second concern. I love the guy for what he has created, but his most recent idea's i have not been a fan of. I don't like Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan. Apart from it being a mouthful of words, it's just another Saiyan transformation which i think has now been done to death. I also think it would have been better to just call the god form Saiyan god, not Super Saiyan God. If it was called Saiyan God, the blue haired form could have been named Super Saiyan God, which i think makes far more sense. Another problem i have is how he bought Frieza back, i don't get why he is in pieces and i don't understand why Frieza didn't die instantly after being revived. When Tien was revived he wasn't revived without his arm so why should Frieza be revived in pieces ? Also, Frieza isn't Cell or Buu, he shouldn't be able to survive in pieces. I also don't understand why Frieza would look exactly like his first form when he was put in that healing tank either. What happened to his mechanical parts ? And just like the Super Saiyan Transformations, i think Freeza having another transformation is just unoriginal and boring, it looks awful too. It looks like something you would see on DeviantArt, the same goes for Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan. Oh, and i think the idea of Tight's is ridiculous. Bulma has been in Dragon Ball since the beginning and at no point do we hear about her having an older sister so inventing one at this point is really stupid. I kinda feel the same way about Tarble too.

So yeah, those are my concerns, that is why i am equally excited and concerned about a new series.

They're likely reuse most of the models Yamamuro has drawn over the years because it'll be faster than drawing new ones, especially after Yamamuro has just wrapped up production and press on a movie.

Well how much of a trailer do you guys want? I recall GT getting some previews during commercial breaks at the end of Z but not sure how early they started.

That Toriyama's touch will be involved in some way gives it a good chance of being better than GT, but he and Toei are caught in a Catch-22: pile more stories into the "lost decade" at this point and you are almost certain to overcrowd it, meanwhile if you go past the ending you will have to deal with the same kinds of absurd excuses for power creep GT did. The other universes existing entirely for the sake of more strong guys is just boring, bordering on Freeza's arbitrary power. The end of the Z-era is a narrative pit in more ways than one, and frankly I do not think its one you can work with without tumbling back down multiple times.

In any event, the "lost decade" certainly ain't lost anymore.

I do hope Sumitomo is abandoned, but I don't expect him to be. The majority of his music has been really lifeless and not so much a character as one would hope from background music. At the very least perhaps we'll get episode directors who know better how to use his music.

It'd be awesome if they shifted the storyline to the end of "Dragon Ball Z." (I can dream! It said post-Boo!)

Oob is so cute, I always wanted to see more of his pupil/mentor relationship with Goku. Especially after that "Neko Majin Z" special where he's just hangin' out at the Son house with the whole family. It's a lot warmer than people typically depict the series ending (with Goku "abandoning" his family).

I'm also curious about Toriyama's take on Pan and Bra. Those characters have a lot of potential! Pan was adorable and Goku-esque in her enjoyment of martial arts at the end of "Z," but I wasn't too fond of what they did with her in "GT," so yeah. Same with Bra. It'd be awesome if she was a spunky tech genius like Bulma, since Trunks doesn't seem to have inherited that trait from his mother. I like to imagine Bra being similar to how Toriyama wrote Bulma as a child in "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" -- only she can also go Super Saiyan (Pan too).
