And for some, it's easier to be enchanted by a moving image with voices and music. I think you're trying to make some absolute statement but it's different from person to person.Eire wrote:I don't know what do you want to argue about. For some people it's just simpler to be enchanted by written word than moving pictures and giving them manga first is a reasonable advice. Once you already like the story it's easier to convince yourself to watch adaptation.

I don't know why is it so hard for people to watch Dragon Ball.
Most people I know with myself were watching it after school and we were OK.

What
Actually it was you doubting that anyone would rather read than watch and saying that's not true that manga takes less time, because for you it took months to read.

Re: Are most people Hesitant to get into Dragon Ball because
I hesitated watching One Piece for years because of 3 reasons:
- Its already long enough
- It will never end
- The ugly art.
Finally started last year because there was some interesting arcs I wanted to see (and because I needed a long series too) it was a good decison. I'm taking my time with this.
About Dragon Ball.
Its definitely a long series. But another big factor is that the new generation may be turned off because the animation is outdated.

Definitely a big deal breaker for some, quite a few of my friends who I managed to get check out even Kai after much begging, arguing, convincing and black mailing still couldn't get over the fact there was like a 150+ eps to go, not to mention all the copious movies.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

Well, if the immense success of DBZ Kai on Nicktoons is anything to go by, then kids either don't care that the animation is outdated or don't really notice it. Either way, they seemed to really enjoy the show, regardless of the animation.FortuneSSJ wrote:About Dragon Ball.

True. But I was mainly talking about DB (pre-Z).Lord Beerus wrote: Well, if the immense success of DBZ Kai on Nicktoons is anything to go by, then kids either don't care that the animation is outdated or don't really notice it. I never said that. You inferred that. I was pointing out that it's not true for everyone that reading the manga takes less time. You make all of these statements like they're absolutes. I wrote "some". I was very clear about that.Eire wrote:WhatActually it was you doubting that anyone would rather read than watch and saying that's not true that manga takes less time, because for you it took months to read.

Re: Are most people Hesitant to get into Dragon Ball because
I think that 99% of people who don't watch DBZ also don't know what Abridged is, and I think that the majority of people who don't watch DBZ think it's a show aimed at children (which the franchise is to a huge extent) and they simply don't have the time to get into a children's show. As people get older they don't have the time for such huge manga's/ shows, never mind that they might not have ever explored comics or Japanese culture. If anything Abridged has helped increase interest into the franchise. Memes are everywhere and poke fun at everything, man.One_Instance wrote:I feel more like it's the fault of Dragon Ball Z Abridged and all the memes poking fun at the series. It's seems like that detours people into thinking that the show is stupid and really nerdy. So I'd blame peer pressure, I suppose.

Is Captain Planet better than it ever needed to be? I'd never know, because it looks fucking terrible. People avoid DBZ for the same reason.
And if they do check it out, it better be either the manga, Kai, or Abridged, because Z's pacing is intolerable.

I'm both, I don't like abridge (it's not funny, and I have no idea why anyone likes such an amateurish production), and I'm serious. 1.5 million irritates me, but it's not proof that they've had an effect on the popularity of the series or discouraged people from watching it. There's no accounting for taste, and I'm fairly certain that those people were already fans of DB, so it's not like they are putting people off to DB or getting more fans for it. If you did a Venn Diagram of the people that enjoy Abridged and watch DBZ, I'm pretty sure they'll over lap.NinjaGoku wrote:Are you being serious or do you just hate Abridged? Why should it better not be Z? I get that you don't like the pacing. Z is what made the series popular, it's pacing didn't hinder its success.

Re: Are most people Hesitant to get into Dragon Ball because
Wow, the hate for a positively received fan parody is oozing out from you, and I'm not a huge fan myself. There are for sure 100 other larger aspects of the franchise in the past 20 years that put people off the franchise than a popular fan parody. It's better to have 1.5 million people who like abridged rather than an empty space. Abridged is publicity for DBZ and is more accessible to anyone on the internet, maybe after people watch it they will take interest in the main series and buy an orange brick. I fail to see how it would make anyone hesitant rather than interested to the franchise.ABED wrote:I'm both, I don't like abridge (it's not funny, and I have no idea why anyone likes such an amateurish production), and I'm serious. 1.5 million irritates me, but it's not proof that they've had an effect on the popularity of the series or discouraged people from watching it. The new famdom is ridiculous:
People comparing:
Goku with Dr. Manahattan or Superman
Non Canon Characters with Canon Character Like Broly Vs Whis
The Old drawing Style to Dragon Ball Kai and new Movies Style complaining how is better
" Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and GT are too old!Look at this animation"
Or "The new Dragon Ball releases came with anorexic characters, its horrible!"
Or comparing Dragon Ball to Naruto and One Piece saiyng thing like :"Dragon Ball its to simple, have no drama,no sex,no mutilation"
The new generation has failed!

Well, the shit with ''old'' animation from anime fan wannabes was there since I've got into anime myself some 20 years ago.
They are usualy kids - I don't want to watch this because it's old, I will rather watch this dumb s**t Precure, because it has new animeeeshon. LOL
They should watch DB Kai openings and go home.

Re: Are most people Hesitant to get into Dragon Ball because
Is it really? Because of it I'm constantly reading from people already in the fandom how funny and clever it is, and I have yet to see or hear one thing I think is actually funny. It's like having to hear about how great Avatar was when I think it's absolute garbage. I don't like being bombarded with things like this. It's better to have 1.5 million people who like abridged rather than an empty space.
I think that's a big maybe.maybe after people watch it they will take interest in the main series and buy an orange brick.
A number of people in this thread keep bringing up today's generation's aversion to old animation. Is there any proof that's actually true beyond anecdotal evidence? I have anecdotal evidence to the contrary.

Then maybe you should learn to accept that people have subjective tastes compared to you. It sounds as if you don't like it, nobody should like it.ABED wrote:Is it really? Re: Are most people Hesitant to get into Dragon Ball because
That's funny. The last time you were speaking of how "bad" abridged was, you kept referring to the fact that you hadn't watched very much of their material, and pretty much none of their current stuff.ABED wrote:I don't like abridge (it's not funny, and I have no idea why anyone likes such an amateurish production)
You might get an idea if you actually took the time to watch it.
Re: Are most people Hesitant to get into Dragon Ball because
So you're the bar of it things are good or not? Well then I should run everything I watch by you now! In all honesty it sounds like you think "I don't like this! So no one else should!" and I must say that's rather fitting for the character whose name you've chosen to use. From personal experience, I find TFS funny!ABED wrote:Is it really? They openly laugh at and say shit about the series that others in the fandom won't cause in all honesty...DBZ really does have some dumb moments. That's the humor, being able to admit "Yeah that is pretty dumb and funny at the same time!" It's making fun of something that is taken WAY too seriously at times.
While I don't watch TFS much anymore, I still think they do a great job poking fun at the series. Heck I know a couple people who have wanted to see DBZ thanks to TFS. It does what it does and if it doesn't do that for you then oh well.
Going on hiatus. Too much stuff in RL to deal with for me to keep up with posts here for now. Was fun, hope you all have a nice day and future! Volt signing off.
