Fuck. Every time I see this I get chills and frighten. I cover my little brother's eyes. Such brutality to a kid. That's scary AF. Makes the bad guy look so much like a little bitch too.

This scene where Goku has a nightmare that Android 17 & 18 arrive whilst he is still ill, the part where 18 snaps Chi-Chi's neck always got me, although I didn't watch the Funimation Dub so the music placement kinda breaks the feeling in the linked clip.
First of all...wow that scream. That's probably easily one of the most horrifying screams Sean has ever done, just because of how...different it sounds. He bellows it, but the way his voice actually breaks...it doesn't usually do that. It's usually so full of power and oomph...but not there.

Anyways though, the FUNI clip we got there was actually a result of a mess up on the part of the Orange Bricks. See, Team Faulconer was kicking around ideas of how to score it, and while the link above was what they originally made, one of the mixing guys (Evan Jones I think it was) thought the original placement was too cartoonish (and it was, by Scott Morgan's own admission). So instead of what we got there, we got a different take on that clip in the broadcast version, where THIS theme...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyDfR7jdYEI

Was the one that played once #17 and 18 killed Krillin and Gohan before going on to kill Chi Chi and Goku. So the version that we got was actually scored like this, basically.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXB3JzneFFE&t=33s

So why can we find only the goofy version on Youtube? Well, same reason we don't have stuff like the voice deepening filter that Super Buu had in the broadcast version. For some reason the Orange Bricks didn't keep the added stuff that was sometimes put into the scores done by Team Faulconer.

EDIT: Anyways, here's one picture that always freaked me out, due to Krillin's scream being heard as you see it, the extremely graphic detail it's drawn in, the reddish-orange filter over it, and everything like that.

Besides the aftermentioned first form Cell, second form cell was creepy on a whole 'nother level. Just the way he advances toward his victims with his stinger morphing into a funnel is just...ugh. https://youtu.be/V5gCpHI8ZnM?t=12m40s

The Freeza arc in all is quite grim, the peaceful Namek planet being invaded and them being killed, the part where Freeza commences battle against Gohan, Kuririn and Vegeta comes to mind, it's not really scary but a bit dark for Dragonball, you can really feel the characters desperation and depression. Maybe the part where Freeza is deciding who to get after his first transformation, it's a bit tense, and Kururin does get it quite bad, the BGM score from that scene is in my head now. I love the Freeza saga. The sense of adventure is taken to the limit by being on a planet in the far depths of outer space, probably why it's my best arc, love it.

When I was a kid I used to be scared by any transformation into Oozaru, by the first music in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RSZcmkqvzE) and by freaking Dolltaki (especially during his death scene with the previously mentioned BGM playing!). Seriously, the guy is like the creepiest thing in Dragon Ball!

I'm scared by how much I like it.
All the DB references in the video, Chaozu girl, the dumb Z Warriors dance, the dumb Freeza dance, and the song itself. It is all so wonderful.

The scene in the anime where cell finally absorbed the last android, there's this crazy dark and twisted scene that plays, it's almost hellish and it shows the corpses of the Z-fighters. Scary.

Babidi's headless body twitching after he was decaptated and the weird sound effect it had like a heart beat.
Broly screaming as he was stabbed as a baby. That for DBZ was pretty dark.

Zephyr wrote:The fandom's collective fetishizing of "moments" is also ridiculous to me. No, not everyone needs a fucking "shine" moment. If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

Well, these two episodes used to scare me a lot. Everyone was so dark.
Baby was dark, man.
Yeah, now talking about it. I remember to get scared of the first episodes when he appeared too.
The way he killed Dr Myuu and how he was after Goku,Pan,Trunks in that planet where they left the green kid on hospital. Possessing people after people.

The soundtrack didn't help either. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ow4Alwb ... D16B7DC8AE.

1st rule in DBZ fights: You always let your opponent power up. If you cheat and try to interrupt him, you will forced to back off.

Bloody SSJ Goku's angry staredowns of Frieza on Namek while it's on the verge of blowing up was always bone-chilling to me as a kid

Image

But the most terrifying thing of all to my ~9 year old self was seeing that Frieza survived and was coming back to Earth with King Cold, knowing that no one had a chance in hell at beating him once he landed

And then, the most beautiful plot twist in this series happened.
