Scott wrote: Well, he didn't warn Bulma of Freeza approaching Earth in his Mecha form, so why would he now choose to warn her in RoF ? Namek was also never warned about the threat of Freeza by the Galactic Patrol. Nothing was ever done about Trunks time travelling either, and that is supposed to be forbidden. There is a possibility that they knew nothing of Trunks time travelling though. But if it was forbidden, they would surely be looking to see if people are actually time travelling.

And even if Raditz was on a secret mission, i don't see why that would matter. Goku was secretly sent to Earth and the Galactic Patrol still knew about that.
Freeza was gathering a huge army for this invasion though. It's perfectly possible that they were aware of a huge movement like that but weren't aware of Freeza pretty much going by himself earlier. Now, you bring up a valid point about them detecting Goku's spaceship, but they were completely wrong about the reason he was sent, so it's not like they have some magical way to obtain information. So, it's perfectly possible that they don't know about every single ship crossing space and just happened to detect Goku's for whatever reason.

Since Digimon Adventure tri. is now a six episode theatrical release my new crack theory is that the 'certain work' that Shida Naotoshi was working on last month was Dragon Ball Super. My guess is that he will be doing key animation for one of the first three episodes and/or a storyboard.

That's a surprise. I thought the digimon one was a series, or under that impression anyway. If Super is what Shida's working on that'd be great!

It's been upgraded, either to avoid production collapse or to allow for Dragon Ball Super to exist.

New Dragon Ball does have the potential to bring in more money for them worldwide than a new Digimon series, imo. That new art style they're using for the Digimon project wouldn't help internationally either, I think, because when you change the art style that much for a nostalgia project, part of the nostalgia itself is lost.

Digimon Tri had completely different VAs for the characters; didn't Sailor Moon Crystal have different seiyuus too?

Uh-oh :?

Only for the human characters. Hanae Natsuki, the voice of Jaco, will be voicing Taichi, so that's already some great casting to consider.

Yes, but I'm fearing Toei may do something similar for Super as well.

They committed to the current cast for the movies, I can't see them ditching everyone but Nozawa now.

Toei also used the original voice actors of the first Digimon season for the cameos the characters made in Xros Wars (2010-11), it isn't as recent but it's still a case of them ditching the old voice actors.

Series Toei has done major voice actor ditching for:

Saint Seiya
Sailor Moon
Digimon

Not counting later Fist of the North Star material, which changed both voice actors and left Toei. But yeah, several major Toei titles all had massive voice shifts (Well, they got back who they could for Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold, and Tohru Furuya and Mami Koyama for Omega, but it was a big deal when they replaced everyone for the later Hades OVAs, and still haven't brought back Ryo Horikawa or the rest of the main five).

This does seem like a bad trend that I hope doesn't continue.

That's mildly disturbing. I don't want a new Vegeta. I'm happy with the old one. ( ; _ ; )

They also had the main cast back even more recently for some kind of bonus on the Adventure Bluray box set, so...yeah...it's really hard to call at this point.

I'm still really unhappy with the sudden cast change on Tri, and not sure how to feel about it being movies instead of a series, so...not sure how well I'd take to them pulling something funny like this with Super now too, argh.

Re: Nozawa

That's true. I really liked Nozawa!Gokû in BOG. Gokû was so intensely Gokû in that movie it was a joy to watch/listen.

The theory that they're using voice actor money to finance other aspects, or just to save money...if they do it better be to help finance the show in general, I hope. If it's only to save money, that'd be disappointing.

To be fair with the Saint Seiya Hades thing, that wasn't just on general principle. They had the original voices for the first of the three Hades OVA series (Chapter Sanctuary). Kurumada, the manga author, who was involved, wanted to change the voice actors for the main five barring Shun (Ryo Horikawa) when they made the second series, Chapter Inferno, on the basis they were too old.

This, and some other stuff, led to some massive disagreements and all of them including Horikawa were replaced--additionally, the animation took a step down for Inferno and Elysion, though I don't remember if they actually changed studio or what.

(If I'm getting any details of this wrong, do correct me.)

Wow. Sounds like a mess. @_@

If we can't keep Ryo Horikawa here too, I'd be willing to root for Mamoru Miyano as Vegeta. >_>
Check him as Rin in Free. He's currently working for Toei on Sailor Moon Crystal as Prince Demande.

I do wonder who will be our "main characters" in the group and who will be more recurring. Goku and Vegeta are a given, but who knows after them? I hope Jaco becomes a regular, because that would be delightful. I wonder if Toriyama'll just do broad plotting, over see the whole thing, write the plot episodes and let others do the fun one-offs, or if he'll give it a go at full writing for a while...hmm...

Actually, they wanted to keep Tohru Furuya (Pegasus Seiya/Yamcha). But he stood by his friends and left with them. It's a shame they did the replacement when they did, as Hirotaka Suzuoki was still alive at the time and could have reprised his role as Dragon Shiryu one last time before his death. It was a good cast. Yamcha was our main character, Tenshinhan was his early rival/ally, Vegeta was the group bishonen/team heart, and Captain Ginyu was Vegeta's older, more badass brother/Sixth Ranger of the group (I think Cygnus Hyoga was the only character of the main five not voiced by someone who would later be involved in Dragon Ball).

Furuya's already been replaced by Toei as both Pegasus Seiya (minus his brief return in Saint Seiya Omega, which was mostly cameoing with narration in season one) and Mamoru. They can't take him from being Amuro Ray of course, but if they took him off being Yamcha, I may use colorful words in my rage (the man has an eternally young voice, let him use it).

Ahah, I knew I'd gotten some of it mixed up at least. Thanks.

I didn't know there was that much overlap between the Saint Seiya and Dragon Ball casts though.

(Frankly, as decently-entertaining as Soul of Gold is, I'm starting to wonder if it's just a sort of holding pattern to give the fans something to tide them over while they wait for Next Dimension to get going again and build up more of a 'buffer'. Because continuing to make Saint Seiya animated series', but having no plans to animate Next Dimension, would be a special form of insanity.)

But yeah, I've barely seen any of Jaco and he already looks pretty fun.

What if SSJ4 is remade design-wise (or a new SSJ form above SSJ3) but it's exclusive to Gotenks and Gohan? Would be kinda nice if Goku and Vegeta have the Godly SSJ forms but the rest of the Saiyans are still useful through the pinnacle of power of the normal SSJ forms.
