Shoestring budget but not amateurish, and they made the imaginary horse work within the absurdity of the world they created.Eire wrote:While the script was written by Oxford graduate historian, the production of Holy Grail was as amateurish as it could be for professional film. The biggest truths aren't original. The truth is ketchup. It's Jim Belushi. Its job isn't to blow our minds. It's to be within reach.

They wanted real ones, but they barely could afford just one scene. And lots of other things like decorations and costumes were done by cast themselves, they even had to borrow and dye the rabbit. Pythons were comedians, not filmmakers, so yes it was amateurish.

Re: Would you enjoy an official dub done by Team Four Star?
No, not in a million years, especially since TFS ruined the fanbase, it's pathetic.
I like DBZA, but ever since the Android/Cell Saga, I feel it's become more than what it is / should be. A parody. It's becoming more and more like an official dub with jokes sprinkled on here and there.
As any others have said, TFS is fine on it's own, but the voices should stay far away from the actual series. Even the voice in Xenoverse (purposefully) butchering every attack name is pushing it a little bit, but when it comes to voicing Vegeta Goku and all the rest in an official dub to be released on TV/DVD? Yeah, no thanks.

Even if this were the true, and it's not, the fanbase ruined the fanbase for latching onto it. TFS can't control how people react to it.Dbzfan94 wrote:No, not in a million years, especially since TFS ruined the fanbase, it's pathetic.

I don't think he's blaming us, but he obviously takes onus with the flow of the conversation over DragonBall since we hit the scene. Which I understand: We're not God's gift to the franchise, we should only be a peripheral part of any conversation about the show and new productions that rise from it.B wrote:Even if this were the true, and it's not, the fanbase ruined the fanbase for latching onto it. That being said, I cannot guarantee that none of us might personally end up in any of said new productions. But obviously, only if we're particularly well suited for those parts, and we wouldn't be replacing anyone.

Re: Would you enjoy an official dub done by Team Four Star?
DBZ Abridged is far funnier than Monty Python, but I never got the humor of those "classics." Are the Pythons more professional? I don't see how. I also don't see why it matters. Triumph of the Will is said to be "well made," but if you think the content is noxious (and it is), it's irrelevant.
Anyway, DBZ Abridged *is* a better presentation of the manga than the original anime itself. It's like the 90s Batman cartoon in the way it brings together disparate parts of the series/franchise, carries the interpretations and implications to their logical conclusions, and ties the whole damn *thing* together with a bow.
The sticking point is that it's a scavenger show, utterly dependent on original material made by another company. If you have a problem with that, then yeah, you'll never be able to see Abridged as a "real" dub.
But another, deeper issue people have is that they consider the anime to be as authentic as the manga, then complain when derivative-but-awesome versions of the anime adaptation gain popularity. It's like the people who hate the popularity of a remake of a film because it was ripping off the original film. Well, yeah, but that original film, famous as it is, gutted the book it was based on, so who gives a fuck? In other words, if you recognize that the DBZ anime isn't that good, and that it actually *lost* a lot of the magic in the source material, you're not going to mind Team Four Star doing a fun remix of it.

I really wouldn't go that far. While I'm a huge fan of DBZA, I still see it as nothing more than an affectionate parody of the original anime.IDreamtIWasABee wrote:Anyway, DBZ Abridged *is* a better presentation of the manga than the original anime itself. 1 - BTAS had the best of the best working on it in every single department, from writing, cast, directing, to animation.
2 - It was an amazing series.
3 - It never poked fun at Batman.
4 - it was a serious adaptation, not a parody. What irritates me is that some can't understand that DBZ Abridged isn't an adaptation, it's a parody. For all intents and purposes, it's a different show.
It's irrelevant that they wanted real ones. That's not apparent in the finished product. That's just behind the scenes trivia.Eire wrote:They wanted real ones, but they barely could afford just one scene. Re: Would you enjoy an official dub done by Team Four Star?
I think its clear that they are talented enough to be professionals in the editing and dubbing business.
But, of course, that doesn't guarantee that a serious and official Dub done by them would be great since that depends on a lot of things.
In short, I would be glad to see their talents recognized and getting them nice things in the business, but for a serious Dub of Dragon Ball by the team I honestly don't think we can really be sure of how it would turn out.

rerere is mah boi.
My take is pretty much the same. I like TFS. I dont adore every voice (Goku), and I think they do have talent but there are more factors than just talent (It sounds dumb but it is) and having a nice voice.

Re: Would you enjoy an official dub done by Team Four Star?
I think you've misunderstood me, but it certainly is true. I'm not blaming Kaiser, Lani an the ret, but the abridged fanbase itself, as many characters have been disgraced in more ways than one (Krillin especially). Krillin can't be brought up anymore without "lol Krillin dies" or the like because of how abridged presents him.B wrote:Even if this were the true, and it's not, the fanbase ruined the fanbase for latching onto it. Of course were talking about YouTube / Facebook comments here, but there's plenty of people who know the series through abridged and think that's exactly how the story is, and think it's hilarious to comment every TFS Freeza line on any official DBZ/Kai video on YT of the Freeza saga.
As I said before, I have no problem with the abridged, I just think it's becoming less funny/good as it's turning too "official" for my taste.

Re: Would you enjoy an official dub done by Team Four Star?
Krillin has always been mocked for dying. And I do love what TFS has done with him and I havent seen many people bring his TFS self except for the (in)famousl Bitch Fu video.
Dont get me wrong I know what you mean, there are many people who put them on a pedestal, wait no, A HEROIC ELYSIEAN FIELD. Not even TFS themselves buy into the insane hype their fans give them (THANK GOD.). But remove these people and I love them. I just dont think that they are the team to make the perfect English dub.

Also, I highly doubt that any more than *maybe* a tenth of our audience hasn't seen the series proper.

Ok I just checked out a TFS video and I laughed... and I think Yamcha and Tien make great serious voices. I love Krillin but he would be too out of place. Unless there is a more jokey character from him to play.

But we already have two official abridged dubs, the Speedy dub & Big Green dub.

Eh, I think with recent products the FUNimation cast has shown they are good enough. We don't need a replacement.
Sorry to nitpicket, but it's Robert De Niro.Gaffer Tape wrote: It's like finding Robert de Niro funny in Meet the Parents and then going, "Well, he must have sucked in The Godfather Part II."

Re: Would you enjoy an official dub done by Team Four Star?
I'm sure they could do a really awesome, legit dub of DB, but at this point their voices are so recognizable from the spoof videos that It'd be hard to take any of them seriously. For the record, Lanipator, MasakoX, and KaiserNeko really get Vegeta, Goku, and Trunks, respectively.
