No.
TFS is for abridged and comedy purposes. Despiste they being better or not voice actors than the offical cast.

A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Well, I am of the opinion that Sonny Strait's voice doesn't fit the character, so that's where we differ I guess.
Re: Would you enjoy an official dub done by Team Four Star?
You shouldn't shoe horn them in, considering they are slowly getting legitimate work. Enough time in and they will be the official VAs in something, and not in tiny parts either.FortuneSSJ wrote:No.

Seperate the humour bias from the deliveries themselves. No. As far as Amateur standards, they all sound absolutely horrible. None of the VAs can hold a role that isnt comedically bad. Even for the TAS, beyond the jokes themselves - their delivery has always been poor even for amatuers. Most of their deliveries don't even outdo the Toonami dub. TFS to me has always just been too obnoxious to me in at area and their Nappa and Goku voices embody it.rereboy wrote:I think they are great at what they do, which is a humorous parody Dub of Dragon Ball Z and pretty much all their voices feel and sound good at doing that.

But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

No, it's not clear from this that they are talented enough to be professionals in the VA industry. I can't judge their professional work as I haven't heard it, but I would hope they got their work from auditions, not this.rereboy wrote:I think they are great at what they do, which is a humorous parody Dub of Dragon Ball Z and pretty much all their voices feel and sound good at doing that. I don't know if they are good impressions of the american Dub because I'm not that familiar with the voices of the american Dub.ABED wrote:Do you really think those are great impressions?
As for them doing a serious and official Dub, I've already offered my opinion:
rereboy wrote:I think its clear that they are talented enough to be professionals in the editing and dubbing business.
But, of course, that doesn't guarantee that a serious and official Dub done by them would be great since that depends on a lot of things.
In short, I would be glad to see their talents recognized and getting them nice things in the business, but for a serious Dub of Dragon Ball by the team I honestly don't think we can really be sure of how it would turn out.

I think everyone in Team Four Star does a good job with the parody material and I think they could certainly hold their own in a serious production with different direction. Providing certain roles were recast or performed differently, of course. With all due respect, however, I'm perfectly happy with the Funi cast in official releases.

No, I wouldn't. It's not 1999 anymore, the hard working profesional FUNimation cast are great at what they do and I don't really want an even more divided fanbase regarding preferred dubs.

Another English cast covering the same material, resulting in an even more fragmented and antagonistic fanbase? No, thanks.
We already have an overflow of the Ocean vs. FUNi/English vs. Japanese arguments online.
However, I do enjoy TFS' work on DBZA. If some of them are legitimately moving into official dubbing/voice acting careers, I'd rather they dub stuff that doesn't already have English voice work (video games, other anime, etc...).

I am so confused about one part.
What in the world are you talking about with the lip flaps ABED? How do they have anything to do with our acting?

Re: Would you enjoy an official dub done by Team Four Star?
I will say that I enjoy TFS work more than I do the official stuff. Given that the purpose of Dragon Ball is entertainment, I suppose that makes it "better" for me.
I've never understood the "you can't count it; it's parody" thing. I mean, I consider Robin Hood: Men in Tights to be by far the best Robin Hood movie. I'd rather sit down and watch Spaceballs than Attack of the Clones.
"Better" is an inherently subjective taste when it comes to art. Personally, I can't see why abstract art is a thing, and it blows my mind that people can make money by throwing paint on walls, but I'm not going to belittle someone's opinion if they prefer that sort of thing.
Anyway, I've said it before, but I like the portrayal of numerous characters in Abridged just as well or better as their equivalent officially cast characters. TFS Freeza could easily work in an official dub. After reading everybody else's comments, and rewatching the last part of the series, I think their Trunks could as well. Cooler, Piccolo, Vegeta, Ginyu, Recoome....I think all of these could work.

While I wouldn't replace most of the Kai cast for TFS guys or want an official dub of them over the Kai cast...I would enjoy seeing some of them cast in future roles in Kai's Buu Saga or Dragon Ball Super.
They've got some voice talent, and it's clear that Sabat (voice director of Dragon Ball stuff) thinks they're talented, so I don't see why they can't come in for either minor characters or new major characters down the line. Just like any other show, they could audition for roles and maybe occasionally get some. With good scripts and good voice direction, I honestly feel we could see many of them in regular voice acting down the line (and for a few, they've already made that transition).

Re: Would you enjoy an official dub done by Team Four Star?
Spaceballs wasn't parodying the prequel trilogy. I wouldn't consider Men in Tights to be an adaptation of the Robin Hood story. It's more a parody of incarnations of the story than it is an adaptation. Lastly, we're talking Mel Brooks. It's a whole different level than TFS. If you count TFS, why not every crappy fan dub out there? What about sketch shows like SNL? Would you count him as an actor that's played the Hulk because he played him in a sketch about Superman's funeral?Kamiccolo9 wrote:I will say that I enjoy TFS work more than I do the official stuff. I honestly would criticize someone's opinion about abstract... I can't call it art because it's not anymore than the paint on my walls is. Music isn't random notes, books and stories isn't just random letters or words, and art isn't just random splotches.
It's more an editing issue than acting. If you were going for a straightforward adaptation, you'd want to match the mouthflaps, but because your aim is different, the mouthflaps don't matter. It doesn't have to be streamlined and polished because it's not about eliciting an emotional response, it's about the laugh. What in the world are you talking about with the lip flaps ABED? Most of this thread is just a tad uninformed because most folk haven't heard our more serious work. Some folk here also seem to assume that just because we're doing impersonations, we don't have our own voices, characters, etc.
We're working in an incredibly confining context, unfortunately. Comedy, while first and foremost acting, is a very different color from dramatic acting.

True, and I don't think I'm off base saying your show is mainly about the comedy. In that I don't think you guys inhabit characters, it feels mostly like a vehicle to do comedy. I'm having a hard time expressing exactly what I'm thinking, so please take that into account if you respond.KaiserNeko wrote:Most of this thread is just a tad uninformed because most folk haven't heard our more serious work. I keep forgetting how pissy and stupid the Dragonball fanbase can be, thank god for topics like these to remind me.
Hell, Kaiser must have the patience of a saint to keep slaving over DBZA to entertain this mass of sweaty and entitled neckbeards for free.

It's a shame the Cell Games reenactment is filler, now there's one thing I could definitely see the TFS guys doing on an official dub without too much objection from the fandom.
Re: Would you enjoy an official dub done by Team Four Star?
If I thought their delivery was bad, the humor wouldn't work remotely as well. So, obviously, I disagree completely.SingleFringe&Sparks wrote: Seperate the humour bias from the deliveries themselves. But, personal opinions aside, all these exaggerated comments strike me as rather strange, anyway... It's like the ones making them haven't ever heard any other fan dubbing of Dragon Ball (or other animes)... To go as far as saying that it's "poor even for amateurs" or that they don't have talent at all, they surely must never have heard those fan dubs, and also must have skipped quite a good number of official dubs of various shows too... Otherwise, such claims seem incomprehensible to me. Either that, or the "hate" is indeed strong.
I stated what I think, as it's clear in my post by the mere fact that I stated "I think". If you disagree, fine, but you don't speak for my opinion, nor is your own opinion fact.ABED wrote: No, it's not clear from this that they are talented enough to be professionals in the VA industry.
Where did you even get such a notion from...? Why wouldn't they be auditioned for a voicing job? Their fan dub is basically a notch at the curriculum and a showcase of some work, not a free pass.I can't judge their professional work as I haven't heard it, but I would hope they got their work from auditions, not this.

Every professional job we've ever gotten, with the exception of two roles, were through auditions. The two we didn't audition for were the Xenoverse part and Oda Nobuna no Youba, and that was because the directors on both projects knew us personally and knew what we could do.

WOW! It didnt really occur to me but you REALLY are a VA AND kind of an internet celebrity! COOL! I met a voice actor from Pretty Cure (The Blue Water English Dub) but this is the first time I've met someone like that THIS upclose. I do agree with some that I would see TFS audition, but not necesarily use the voices they use on DBZA. And I'm not too keen on MasakoXs Goku. But yeah! Hot stuff!
