It's the Z era that turned the show into global phenomenon. Strong action narrative, character arcs built during those all-encompassing battles, high-stakes. It wasn't the endless reunion special parties, driving episodes and fluffing about nothing at Ten and Chiatzou's farm. All that can be a great addition and should be included, but in no way Super should focus on that. Ever since 2008 there are some fans who seems to want nothing else than neverending gags, memes and self-referencing jokes in the show/movies/specials, just fun and no high-stakes. We tried going that way in early GT and look how ratings plummeted. Even if it was done flawlessly in perfect Toriyama execution it would be insufferable if overdosed.BlazingFiddlesticks wrote: Or rather, a story that acknowledges that the Dragon Ball crew is settled and the "Z-era all-encompassing battle" storyline no longer works, no more than a Dragon Ball hunt or straight World Tournament would mean anything in the "Z-era". The series threw out tradition once, it can do it again.
I vehemently disagree with Toriyama's notion that the characters suddenly stop being fun once the eldest of the core cast hit middle age, particularly after Dragon Ball already throws modern shonen logic out the window by following Goku into middle age to begin with. You have a 3-generations long, 40-plus person strong big happy family of weirdos... have fun with that. We do not need to open with any fighting; let's see the kids bizarre family lives, let's seem Ten and Chiatzou's farm, let's get a Krillin episode, a Piccolo episode... Goku and Vegeta can keeping training with Whis in the background for the first few episodes, if turning Super into another GT is really the only thing they're useful for at this point (Resurrection F does not bode well). Then, when the villain appears and the battle cries go out, we'll be more invested in the fates of these character than we've ever been. Ever since the 2008 special, the Kazenshuu-esque side of the fanbase has been throwing around "having fun with the characters" like a buzzword, but if Toei really cannot find a way to do that in a longer form manner with a gigantic, mature cast, this show is pointless. I know that means nothing, its not Shueshia's thought process, but then that did not stop the lesser movies or GT from being as problematic as they were, nor kept anyone from saying so.
Also, yes, let's stick with the Blue Godliness and keep fusion as the trump care; GT actually got that part right.

Battle of Gods hit good notes. Not perfect, but good pacing. I would love to see Super open with a tournament arc to get people's feet wet, but I don't expect it. Tournament arcs work really well as both fluff and action.
Don't be too alarmed if I just don't show up for a few months. Hooray for fleeting interests!

What about further exploration into the Demon World/Realm? Seems like a good place to start, if any, for any would-be villians....
Or maybe instead on sticking to mainly the Lower Realms...the story of DBS could possibly expand to something bigger.

I'd love this. I've wanted to see this ever since Dabura's realm was mentioned but never expanded upon.chizzielamer wrote:What about further exploration into the Demon World/Realm? Seems like a good place to start, if any, for any would-be villians....

As for what I want, I would actually like this to be more of an episodic series, rather than one with an overarching plot. Have different episodes devoted to different members of the cast, don't try to pull off some galaxy-shattering plot, don't try to shoehorn new characters in at this point, and develop the people that the latter part of Dragon Ball kinda threw by the wayside.

If it's anything like the animation in ROF, I think DBS will certainly look quite good.Periskir wrote:I hope that this time animation will be better.

This is even considering Son Goku and His Friends Return, which had fantastic animation, imo.Lord Beerus wrote:If it's anything like the animation in ROF, I think DBS will certainly look quite good.Periskir wrote:I hope that this time animation will be better.
On a side note, am I the only one scared that Gohan will suffer will become the next Krillin or Yamcha? Turning into a power scale?

I want the return of Otokosuki! And I want him to fuse with Funi Dub Killa.

Nah. Gohan jobbed to Majin Boo when he first debuted and was far down the pecking as far as strength went in the series by that point in the arc. Then all of the sudden, he became in the universe again. Wouldn't rule out a scenario like that happening in Dragon Ball Super. The Desert Bandit wrote:This is even considering Son Goku and His Friends Return, which had fantastic animation, imo.Lord Beerus wrote:If it's anything like the animation in ROF, I think DBS will certainly look quite good.Periskir wrote:I hope that this time animation will be better.

How about the ending of Super being a reanimated end of Z with more dialogue and such to better tie in with all of new material and characters. It doesn't have to retcon anything, but honestly, I wish they would.

If starts after ROF (at least in the beginning), then it would sure flow better if they just cut EOZ from Buu Kai and stuck it in-between Super arcs reanimated.Storm101 wrote:How about the ending of Super being a reanimated end of Z with more dialogue and such to better tie in with all of new material and characters. Another thing is that have the battles takes place on some distant planet or something. Gets annoying every time worrying about the planet yet keep fighting on it
Re: What do you hope to see in Dragon Ball Super?
I've accepted that's most likely the case. They're keeping him the strongest non god (Just let Piccolo surpass him already). He fits the role of strong guy who gets beat to benchmark the next villain, without sacrificing Goku or Vegeta to look bad. He's constantly pointed out for not training and his antics even in universe are considered silly. Ergo the perfect writers punching bag. Not learning from mistakes either makes him even more appropriate to be the punching bag.The Desert Bandit wrote:On a side note, am I the only one scared that Gohan will suffer will become the next Krillin or Yamcha? Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

I'm hoping to see DragonBall Super do very good and break records because this will probably be the last DragonBall series we ever see created by Toriyama himself. And I hope to see Future Trunks in his future timeline because he will probebly never travel back and take a risk to change the past again.

The whole reason that Trunks came back was to change the past. Furthermore, Trunks admits that what he does won't effect the timeline he came from, hence Trunks killing the Lapis, Lazuli, and Cell.shinmaru wrote:And I hope to see Future Trunks in his future timeline because he will probebly never travel back and take a risk to change the past again.

Unlike Fast and Furious, this will indeed be the last ride (with Toriyama, at least).shinmaru wrote:I'm hoping to see DragonBall Super do very good and break records because this will probably be the last DragonBall series we ever see created by Toriyama himself.
Gonna enjoy it to the fullest!
