Absalon won't be so bad if they did something more original and didn't throw in so much shit going on. We still don't know anything about the bad guys and why Future Trunks is coming back. If he plans to make the next episode a half hour then he better improve on story telling.

Re: Unofficial New DB Series Dragonball Absalon Episode 1
I brought EXACTLY this up in my DBA review. He hasn't explained ANYTHING in two episodes. Its just like a lot of bad fanfiction, they just throw you into the story with little to no explanation at all, and expect you to follow it. His characters are contradictory, the interpretation of the Super Warriors is bonkers, and his storytelling is just terrible.Hellspawn28 wrote:Absalon won't be so bad if they did something more original and didn't throw in so much shit going on. The sad thing is that the Dragon Ball fans that go to my local community college love Absalon. I feel like the local DBZ fans that does not like it.

From what I've been told that Mellavelli just announced via the Dragon Ball Absalon Facebook page that the next episode will also be his last, citing bad reviews, bad forums, dying fanbase, lack of donation support, Dragon Ball Super, and him now 'hating everyone'.

I saw it, and commented. The entire status reeked of petty entitlement.Hellspawn28 wrote:From what I've been told that Mellavelli just announced via the Dragon Ball Absalon Facebook page that the next episode will also be his last, citing bad reviews, bad forums, dying fanbase, lack of donation support, Dragon Ball Super, and him now 'hating everyone'.
Here it is, if anyone is interested:
Hello Guys a announcement
This will be the last episode
I’m to tired to work on this damn project anymore!!!!
To many factors that frustrates me
I also recently opened a patreon, to at least get me some help, but only 17 people donated, also a slap in my face squint emoticon
What was i thinking…… asking fans for 1 dollar what a shame.
My youtube channel is also dying my last animation 50 k views ? why people sub if they don't watch my animations? man, time to go on. dba is dying. It is hard to admit. but it is true Dragonball super is coming so why wait 4 DBA? There is less, to no interest in DBA. it failed. own fault i had to work harder on it...like animation is a peace of cake....
Now i fucking hate everybody, don’t ask me why. just got the damn feeling that i give and give and receive shit in return. i have a lot of great comments from my true fans, but these trolling mean ones are like a sting in my soul now.
I now, i don’t have to take these “ungrateful shit comments” personally, but as a artist it's hard to do not. If you put' your tears, sweat and so many, many… i mean fucking many hours in this damn project. And see so many shit forums and shit reviews of so called reviewers that only give information we most of the time already know.stupid idiots. Like there the fucking popo on the net fucking shit comments and hate. i wish some one told me shit in my face.Man i would fuck you up!!!
Sorry people, but i start to fucking hate everything. Even my love for animation starts to fade.. now shit's getting emo right now. Well, thank you for support and your trust. Somehow, people dont trust me... is it my fucking color? what is it? do i look criminal? Or maybe i ‘m a bad person?
ooo that is it. i didn’t upload much enough? Maybe I'm a lazy ass n*** Is that what you think of me? Man what a waste ….
I feel like Goten in the dirt…
And below is my personal response in the comments.

The best thing I like about Absalon is the main villain designs since they look cool. Razzle is the least popular out of the three main villains and yet he is probably the closet thing that Toriyama would come up with. He's small, has a funny personality and deadly at the same time. The other two are pretty boring and feel like that they came out of the 90's Toei era.

Anyway, I checked out episode 1 a while back. Didn't like it at all, though I recognized the talent it took to make such a thing. I liked the little small villain though.

He seems like he can't take criticism at all in any form.
I admired his dedication to long animations putting them out at a quick pace for one man for as long add they are, but I hated his plot and was not fond of his character designs. Shame he had to blame everyone but himself for his short comings. That's an ugly way to be.

My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

Re: Unofficial New DB Series Dragonball Absalon Episode 1
If his reason for quitting is that he doesn't get enough "support" from others, then he shouldn't even have started. Wonder what kind of twisted fantasy world he's living in. No one has to provide him with money or praise or even encouragement. If anything, he should be grateful for the support he actually got because people actually took the time to look at his work and even more, took the time to show their appreciation.
Also, people can work themselves to the bone sometimes and get little to no payoff. It's life. That's when we pick ourselves up and move forward.
Bottom line is, if you're gonna start something, it's ultimately up to you to propel your own shit forward. If you can't do it, then that's your own problem, not someone else's.
Carry yourself better next time.

No Sympathy. You come on stage with a beloved series, knowing very well what kind of fandom you're coming across, and a lot of people is going to talk ill and not believe in you. But when you stop believing in yourself-or worst, get started for anyone but yourself-you already lost. Go back to whence you came, and don't return until you can shout "Haters Gon' Hate" at the top of your lungs.

I actually don't respect him as a person as he blocked everyone who gave a negative to the series even if it was a majority positive post. I do respect his talents and understand where he's coning from. Minus..bringing race into this (didnt even know he was black).
When you're connected to your own project but people give you a majority bad review. Then you might throw a fit. I've almost done it with my amvs. Almost quit. Then I pick my head up and got better. By reading the non trollish shit to adjust my style. Imo that's what he should have done. Not be a POST GT AF rip or bringing back Broly. If possible change art direction from Street Fighter to a more DB style.

Re: Unofficial New DB Series Dragonball Absalon Episode 1
Even though I didn't care about Absalon, I totally understand that guy.
Nowadays internet can be a toxic place (especially places like youtube) full of trolls trying to be funny and calling for some attention. This happens in any famous video.
Some people can take it, others not. Too much hardwork and free time consumed to get attacked by a troll that didn't even take 1 minute to say shit.
Like the classic saying: Easy to talk shit about it. Harder to make something better.
Other example is people demanding new content every week, like the uploader is in debt with them and has the obligation to do so.
Team Four Star is always scoring in this department.
Perfectly understandable his behavior.

Re: Unofficial New DB Series Dragonball Absalon Episode 1
While his behaviour is understandable (as in I see the logic of how he came to act like this), it doesn't make me sympathetic in the least. Even if he wasn't getting toxic comments about disliking his series and was just dealing with the lack of viewership, we'd probably have still gotten the same basic announcement. It only takes one look; his entitled attitude is beyond obvious in the statement he made. He basically embodies the exact same stuff he's complaining about, just on the producer side of the table rather than the consumer.
Re: Unofficial New DB Series Dragonball Absalon Episode 1
This guy sat 24 hours a day deleting any sign of negative comments on his videos, and if he wanted to make animation the least he could've done is learn how to draw. He is a black stain in DB fandom that tried to scam people for money to "buy a new computer" and it's sad that he was even allowed to get away with a bit of it.

Re: Unofficial New DB Series Dragonball Absalon Episode 1
So I had heard about Absaolon. I'd seen it pop up in searches on Youtube and other places. I just heard about this from the Dao of Dragon Ball FB page. I read the message and while I feel bad for the guy, he is acting like a spoiled child. I watched his series and yes, a lot of work clearly went into it, but at the end of the day it just wasn't that good. He only got that many views because it was Dragon Ball Z and the character models looked realistic in the thumbnail. It wasn't funny, the story wasn't engaging, the animation wasn't that great, so why would people stick around? I'm sorry but if you are an artist in any way, shape or form and you put your work out there you will get judged, both fairly and unfairly. That's just life. It's NEVER going to be any different for anybody. His reaction was completely unprofessional.
However,I hope he gets better. It sounds like he might have some emotional/mental issues. Whether or not I enjoy his work is irrelevant, I don't think anybody should have that much self loathing.

Re: Unofficial New DB Series Dragonball Absalon Episode 1
As someone who is currently working on his own Dragon Ball fan creation, I can definitely appreciate the amount of work this guy put into his series. However, between the quality of the show itself and his attitude over the years... well, this scene from the J.J. Abrams movie Super 8 pretty much sums up my feelings on the situation. Still, in terms of bizarre oddities, I can't say I regret that Dragon Ball Absalon exists. It's sort of enjoyable in a "what the heck did I just watch" kind of way.
By the way, nice review, Malik. Your analysis was fair and thorough and I found your narration engaging. Are you planning to do a review of Resurrection F in the future?

Appreciate the compliments. Yes, when I have the DVD and can watch it thoroughly, I plan on doing that review. I also wanna do a re-review of Battle of Gods, seeing as the one I did was based on the Japanese version I owned before the American releaseParkerAL wrote:As someone who is currently working on his own Dragon Ball fan creation, I can definitely appreciate the amount of work this guy put into his series. Working in the real world is that you have to deal with criticism and people are not going to give you a free pass because you put in a lot of effort. Mellavelli thinks that we should give him a free pass on how much effort was put into his work. Besides the animation, the story is terrible and it feels like it was written for DBZ fans who just mindless action with no real story put into it. He also acts like if Super is going to end all DB fan fictions when you are welcome to do whatever you want with your own fan fiction story.
