Of course they still going on, the manga series hasn't ended yet. What sintzu was asking was how many series had remained extremely relevant, as Dragon Ball has, even 20 years after the original manga story ended.

A fanchise cannot last for 20+ years after the original story ended, if it's not at the very least extremely relevant or well know with the mass public.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Astroy Boy. Too bad the 2003 anime and 2009 CGI movie bombed.

And that's what we answered. We just also added other stuff to hammer home the point that Dragon Ball's age isn't unique only to it. Like I said before, Gundam started in 79. It is still one of the largest franchises Bandai has under it's belt and that's saying a lot when you consider all the franchises Bandai has under it's belt.
Going on hiatus. Too much stuff in RL to deal with for me to keep up with posts here for now. Was fun, hope you all have a nice day and future! Volt signing off.

This conversation is veering way off-topic, and too many of the replies are borderline sarcastic/dismissive. Let's pull it back, please.

Anyone remember those little side-story "novels" the anime staff wrote for Piccolo, Vegeta and Trunks? Wouldn't mind seeing that return for some characters in Super, always thought it gave a lot more depth to the characters we knew (especially the Trunks one).

You don't seem to know much about the industry. Super will air for one year, at least. So definitely, it will have more than 26 episodes.
And if Dragon Ball wasn't special, it would be already buried long ago. Living in denial is not good.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

I too hope that there are some little side-stories to Super. If we can get stuff like that in movie form (like in BoG) hopefully we'll see some fun stuff on the side in Super. My #1 for this new series is that it has plenty of heart.

It has to be longer than GT in order to redeem the franchise or else it will all have been for nothing.

It'll have to last at least five cours to do that. If it's one year only, it'll still miss GT by 15 episodes or so.

It has to be better as well.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

I'd take better even without longer. I'd count DB TV series' as "redeemed" if Super is just flat-out good whether it's an epic saga or short but sweet.

26 episodes is just fine for a test run. The point is to want people craving more. If the series is successful, then they can continue making episodes and increasing the quality of future seasons (assuming the first season will be subpar in that regard).
"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super

Damn, yo, Koga Gou hasn't done anything since February. I hope he's a regular on Dragon Ball Super, especially if Tate Naoki can be his regular animation supervisor. Koga directed the Opening for Dragon Ball Z 2, so he has a history with the franchise.

Given that we have a very good director for Dragon Ball Super, it's almost certain that he will recruit some of the talented key animators and animation supervisors. Even if the talent pool is thinned out, I hope he will find a way to convince few of good sub-contracted animators. I wonder if he can get his hands on some of the great key animators from Naruto Shippuden, since the series is coming to an end. Hiroyuki Yamashita or Gorou Sessha, perhaps?

Right now I'm watching Naruto episode 63. That episode has a nice on-model. The previous episode where Naruto beat Neji Hyuga is one of the better looking episodes. The director could try to get some of the key animators from these episodes. Or perhaps someone from the episode where Uchiha Itachi first used his Mangekyou Sharingan to cast Tsukuyomi on Hatake Kakashi?

Does anyone have a vague idea when we could have any new information regarding Super. Kanzenshuu visits are becoming tiresome when its the same speculation over and over again, we need some more tidbits to get our creative train of thought back on track again.

The week after next week's Jump? (Whose spoilers generally pop up the Tues/Wed/Thu before street date.)

OR, actually next month there is a Saikyou Jump issue, maybe that'll have something?

Definitely VJump, but I expect something before VJump. Maybe that dragonballsuper.com site will launch at the start of June?

Yamashita Hiroyuki is directing Boruto: Naruto The Movie. Sessha Gorou is the series director of an upcoming television series. Besides, we'll probably get spin-off series that focuses on Boruto and Sarada, so I don't see Yamashita and the others being available any time soon. Oonishi Ryou and Tate Naoki haven't been busy lately, so they might be regulars for Dragon Ball Super early on.

Did you watch Naruto Episode #62? The storyboard had a lot of really good framing from Episode Director Niidome Toshiya. Also, watch #64. Niidome did the storyboard for Episode Director Kujo Rion and it is even better! The same pair handled Episode #82, too.
