I don't care when it takes place, I'm just grateful we're getting a new series. I don't need tension personally. I just love Dragon Ball.

I'm sure most people here are happy we're getting more Dragon Ball too, obviously. Hell, I'd watch a series consisting of nothing but the entire cast standing around talking to each-other, as I personally always found the characters the best part about the series. But it doesn't mean we don't want the new series to be as good as it can possibly can, and from a critical standpoint, placing the series in the decade gap is a bad choice that will no doubt affect the series' quality and fan-reaction in the long run.

A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

I totally understand that. My only reservation about EoZ is everyone looks, and would be (at least age wise) old. Though, maybe they can have facelifts lol.

Ok. I never meant to cause offence by saying that, sorry if it came across that way.

Are there ways to be old that don't involve age? XD

Well, to be fair, the only ones who look old by the time the epilogue comes along are Bulma, Chi-Chi and Kuririn. And excluding maybe Kuririn, who can easily look a bit younger if you just shave off his hair again, the others are not going to be relevant characters at all.

I deserved that one lol. Well, perhaps Tien, Roshi, Mr. Satan and Krillin will take a back seat. Goku and Vegeta looked good for their age.

I do really like almost all of the EoZ designs in general. (I can't remember who said it, but whoever said they didn't like Vegeta's tank-top look earlier...sure, but the cool jacket from earlier in the chapter made up for it, right?)

"Just more of the same" doesn't cut it for me. I expect more from the franchise that delivered great story arcs like Saiyan/Freeza or Androids/Cell and some proper character developement and progression. 2008 special was enough of Dynasty-reunion for me, BOG was already pushing it with yet-another-reunion-party and everyone stuck in the same spot in life as 20 years ago. This series needs to move forward already.
Doctor. wrote:It can just be a grown-up Goten with Goku's hair.
TBH I agree with others tht this looks like potato-sized Goten from BOG. Which gives me shivers. Essentially stuck along with Trunks as kid for 2 decades and counting sans short EOZ/GT break...

The only thing I can think of at this point is maybe Super will have a time-skip that'll land it closer to EoZ mid-run?
Say it lasts longer than one story arc; the manga time-skipped after an arc finished a bunch of times; so:
Story arc one = post-F
Story arc two = EoZ era
On hiatus.

Which would be a mess. New DB series with a part of it sandwiched between episodes of a different DB series? What's the point keeping EOZ in Kai then, should just cut it and add to Super in such case. What's the point of branding it as DB Super if it's just more DBZ episodes at first. Brand it as DBZ for season 1, then rebrand to Super for post-EOZ season 2. Of course we're talking Toei so I guess any nonsense may be seen "genious!" in their opinion...

Google Translate points towards it just being a promotional line for Kai.

Pretty much the same tweet they post every Sunday morning. It just says that Kai is about to begin, and the climax of the arc is approaching. Also that Dragon Ball Super is coming in July, so check it out to prepare! ...Or something like that.

Knowing the far off future doesn't really gets tension away for me.
Knowing that everybody would be fine in the epilogue didn't make the threat of Beerus exploding the Earth and everyone on it feel like a waste, it was still full of tension.
Doesn't make Freezer blowing up the Earth any less horrible and nightmarish, even when you know everyone is fine along with the non-destroyed Earth in the epilogue years later.

So if the movies can do it in such an amazing way, Super will do it, essentially being what the third movie would have been except that it's series-wide, likely because Toriyama felt uncomfortable with the narrow time frame allowed by a movie to tell a properly constructed story.

The new TV series “Dragon Ball Super” by Akira Toriyama begins in July! After meeting with the God of Destruction; Beerus, who had awakened from his sleep, and after the revival of the dreaded “Emperor of the Universe”; Freeza, a new mysterious person appears …?
We talked about that tweet a while back, and it doesn't confirm anything. It's a question teasing the possibility of a new character, and doesn't necessarily refer to an in-universe timeframe. And even if it did, it still doesn't answer the question about whether it's before or after Oob.

There was absolutely no real sense of tension in that movie. It was too lighthearted, and contained too much fluff. Dear lord, Goku seemed only slightly upset ("oh shucks!") that Beerus was going to stay true to his word about blowing up the Earth. Remember when he begged Kid Buu to not do so?

It's true, but having a being reverse time ruined any emotions felt by that, and left a very sour taste.

The Kid Buu saga had no real threat, and yet, it successfully created a sense of tension. Kid Buu was silly, but also actually scary, chaotic, and pure evil. The scenes took themselves seriously, and there was no mention of Gohan or Gotenks being capable of easily defeating him, even if they could. In F, they just had to confirm how Beerus can whup Frieza (never mind Whis...).

Until there is a villain that can whup Beerus and Whis around silly, there will NEVER be a sense of tension again. Nevermind the fact that we know everything turns out well in EoZ.

"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super

We have the logo for Super, it was shown on this week's Kai. I don't think I can post it here. It is the same as Dragon Ball Z, the words Dragon Ball are the same as Z, but the Super (Chou) is golden.
