Favorite heartwarming or tearjerking moments
Anyone have any favorite moments from the show that genuinely brought tears to your eyes? Here are my picks:
From DB:
Goku is reunited with his Grandpa Gohan
Upa reunited with his father Bora. The scene leading up to it is also heartwarming, too, complete with that beautiful song Aoki Tabibito-tachi.
From DBZ:
Yamcha dies for the first time (preferably with original Japanese score)
Goten meets his father for the first time (preferably with original Japanese score)
From DBGT:
Many of the songs from the original Japanese score.

Re: Favorite heartwarming or tearjerking moments
Goten meeting Goku for the first time is definitely one of the more heartfelt moments in the series. Goku taking Gohan fishing and goofing around with Krillin is one of those moments for me too. Especially when you consider it was the last time they spent time with Goku before he died in the Cell games.

Dragon Ball
-Goku reuniting with Grampa Gohan. (It's a sweet touching reunion and a really feel good moment)
-Krillin's death (The anime makes this scene. It's powerful and sad. Goku experiences a lot of emotion here, more than any other time before this)
Dragon Ball Z
Piccolo's death (The entire speech to Gohan and his character face turn)
Goku's second death (The sacrifice here I find is sadder than the one against Raditz)
Goku not wanting to be wished back, and showing how happy he is. (Goku despite wanting to stay dead forever manages to make his death actually feel ok. Like there's nothing to be sad about. It's the most heartwarming I think)
Dragon Ball GT
Piccolo's final death (While ignoring that Piccolo had any screen time in GT, this moment I found more powerful than when he died to Nappa. I just think it's sadder when someone sacrifices themselves because they choose to for the greater good. His last speech to Gohan is really heartwarming too, but also depressing.)

Dragonball
The aftermath of Goku's fight with Tien at the 22nd Tournament where Krillin and the crowd come running out of the stadium to greet them after a fantastic battle. Seeing Tien get some love from the crowd was great after him just recently changing his ways, and watching him and Goku smile at each other with mutual respect at the end was great too. Moments like these are really missed in Z with pretty much 99% of earths population forgetting about the previous Tournaments and King Piccolo's rain of terror and blindly worshiping Mr Satan.
Goku finding Krillin's dead body. I gotta admit even knowing that he'd be brought back somehow this was one of the few scenes that had me feeling a little misty.
Dragonball Z
Vegeta's death in Funimation's original dub. Whether it was out of character or not I always found that speech he makes to be much more sympathetic than him crying over his broken pride.
Gohan's dream sequence in the Funimation dub of Goku coming home (before the part where he turns into Frieza). The music cue by Faulconer when Gohan sees his dads outline through the mist and his eyes fill with tears just couldn't be more perfect.
The scene where Goku, Vegeta, Mr Satan and Buu return to the Lookout to greet friends and family. I'll admit this is one of the few scenes I thought was better in the Japanese version due to the simplicity of the music playing over it all without hearing the dialogue. Definitely one of Kikuchi's better pieces in Z.
Dragonball GT
The scene with Goku and Krillin sparring on the beech with the Tokunaga score. There was a real sense of finality here as if these 2 childhood friends who had been through so much together really where saying goodbye for what may or may not have been the last time. Having Roshi still there with them also added to the moment, with him and his 2 best students.

Dragon Ball
Piccolo Daimao's defeat - "I won!". Goku's raw emotion in that final punch is so incredible that it brings a tear to my eye almost every time I watch it. You can feel the pain, anguish, and finally, a sense of victory coming from the character, all at the same time. After the many deaths caused by the Daimao, it was refreshing to see the unstoppable villain finally taken down. Nozawa really brought her A game to that whole arc.
Dragon Ball Z
The Strangest Little Robot - Probably the best single filler episode of Z. Gohan starts off completely hopeless, trapped in a cave with the self-preserving C-6. He begs the robot to help, but it wants nothing to do with him. Over time though, 6 warms up to the company and makes a friend in Gohan. The cave collapses, causing the robot to use all of his remaing power to save Gohan's life, while Gohan is prompted to take that final leap forward and escape. Gohan learns to believe in himself, while C-6 dies learning to care for something other than himself. It's a small, almost self contained story, but manages to accomplish so much dramatically, as well as in the character development of Gohan. Great stuff.

Re: Favorite heartwarming or tearjerking moments
All those moments are really up there. Another one that comes to mind is when Goku killed Boo and after all of the lighting and all the destruction, it was finally over and Satan was like, "Did you get him...?" with Goku just giving him a thumbs up. You could almost feel how elated the characters were.
Quite honestly, I got really sad when I saw the last episode of Dragon Ball Z when Goku left with Oob, not because the moment itself is sad, but because I realized that the series was over.

After the end of Goku's fight with Tenshinhan, the crowd runs to congratulate the participants but the first one there is Kuririn to greet his best friend. It's a wonderful moment, and the perfect set up for Kuririn's death.

Re: Favorite heartwarming or tearjerking moments
I'm surprised GT's ending hasn't been brought up yet. No matter how many faults GT has, the ending is single-handily the most heartwarming and tear-jerking moment in the entire series for me, even if I personally prefer the manga's ending for the series.

Re: Favorite heartwarming or tearjerking moments
Lots of my favorites have already been brought up, so I'll bring up one that hasn't been brought up yet. This dialogue exchange (not word-for-word, but close enough) in DBZ:
(Gohan is training with Piccolo, who uses ki blasts from his eyes at one point)
GOHAN: Hey! You promised no eye beams!
PICCOLO: And you fell for it--NEVER believe what the enemy tells you!
GOHAN: Well yeah, but Mr. Piccolo, you're.......not the enemy.
Both the dialogue and the delivery (depending on which actresses we're talking about) were great in that scene.

A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Re: Favorite heartwarming or tearjerking moments
Never had tears in my eyes watching Dragonball, but I got a serious lump in my throat at Piccolo's first death, and when Vegeta sacrificed himself against Majin Buu. Oh, and in Wrath of the Dragon when Tapion was trying to get Trunks to kill him. That was a really powerful emotional scene.

Re: Favorite heartwarming or tearjerking moments
I find the moment Goku Jr. meets Goku for the first time very heartwarming.
BT3 off meds | The final fight
Ah, the Alpha and the Omega. As all life was created from Chaos...so shall it be DESTROYED!!!
The wails of machines | Singing cold harmony | Shifting air upward | Entranced by the breeze | Light pours like blood | Into a cosmic sea | Of stars crystallized | In a frozen symphony

Re: Favorite heartwarming or tearjerking moments
When Goku saw his Grandpa for the first time.
When Goten meets his father. It makes me feel a certain way.
Gohan's birthday before the Cell games.
Goku's sacrifice for the second time. The Japanese did a better job although the English version was good.
Goku waking up from his virus and ChiChi running into his arms.
I could go on but DB/Z has a lot of heartwarming moments that some people don't give it credit for. I love the action like the next person but it's the simple moments I enjoy.

Re: Favorite heartwarming or tearjerking moments
This over and over again. One of the few moments of genuine pathos in the series. Kuririn's comment that both Goku and Muten Roshi have appeared to stay the same, while he's grown old, really sells the scene.90sDBZ wrote:Dragonball GT

Goku meeting Son Gohan at Uranai Baba's is pretty damn heartwarming, though.
EDIT --
Oh, shit. Also Mr. Robot.

DB:
- I don't know why but just watching the first episode almost makes me cry every time...especially when I remember the last episode of Z. A LOT of things happened.
-Goku's reunion with Son Gohan.
-Kuririn's first death. ( I liked Goku's reaction ).
DBZ:
-When Bulma and the others arrive to pick up the bodies of the fallen Z warriors after the battle with the Saiyans.
-Vegeta's death on Namek. Despite being the character I disliked the most at the time, it was still sad.
-The filler scene in the Cell saga where Goku swings ChiChi in the air.
-Gohan turning SSJ2 for the first time. One of my favourite scenes! The music in the Japanese version made it just PERFECT.
-Any scene involving Majin Vegeta after his battle with Goku. Also I just love the tone of his voice when he was whining to Goku during that battle. Hugging Trunks was unexpected to me and so...
I couldn't help but to cry. Too bad Kai ruined that moment with that stupid unfitting track.
Also his short conversation with Piccolo after that was nice. I think I prefer Kai's version. But as for the sacrifice itself, definitely Z.
I didn't care for most of the Boo saga, especially when Trunks and Goten turned it into a joke. The epilogue was nice though...but Goku leaving his family again to train a kid he just met was stupid.

Both of them came from GT ironically, which I find to be the weakest between DB and DBZ:
• Piccolo's sacrifice
• The ending
No moments define "them feels" like those two do.

The plethora of Mr. Satan and Fat Boo moments deserves more love. I can't even name one in particular because there were so many. Mr. Satan growing to care for his friend so much just... I'm tearing up just thinking about it...
