Bar about one person, I don't think anyone's vehemently against it. There's just a general feeling of "Eh..." going around.
With nothing else to talk about, I'm sure it reads far more strongly than anyone's actually feeling.
I'm just a little confused by it. I understand that it's probably for familiarity's sake, but it's odd that a simple edit of the series has a far more creative logo that its sequel.
It's extremely imbalanced from a design perspective. I guess I expected something like this:

This sucks, I made it in 10 minutes, but you get the idea.

That's not perfect, but I actually like it better than the official logo, except for the colors. The official one looks uninspired, lazy, and rushed, which I hope isn't an indication of what we can except from Super as a series.AjayLikesGaming wrote:It's not.sangofe wrote:Why's the looks of a logo important at all?

Sucks? What are you talking about, that looks great! The cyan colour kinda hurts my eyes thoughAjayLikesGaming wrote:It's not.sangofe wrote:Why's the looks of a logo important at all?

Ajay's got it down pat, basically. I feel disappointed by the look of the logo too, since it's just kinda...there...but at the same time, the logo is one of the least important things that will be coming out of the new show, so it's not really that huge of a deal either way for me.

It's okay.
I like the "Super" part of it, but to be honest I had hoped the "Dragon Ball" would have been given a new font. It just looks a bit odd without the Z there.
I like the one posted above more to be honest.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
We can't be sure if it's a placeholder or not right now.
But if it is the actual logo, it makes sense if the plot is set after Resurrection 'F' and before the epilogue, since it inserts itself inside of Z, just temporarily leaving the Z category to enter the Super category chronologically. It wouldn't be before or after, but part of it.
Like when you choose that instead of going to the final boss and the ending, you will have an extra super-special adventure facing a SUPERboss before reverting to the main mandatory story for the finale.
And as a follow-up to Kai, that logo would be entirely new for a "Kai newcomer".
It is also possible that they kept it so that it's in line with the new movies more than anything else, as the new movies kept the Dragon Ball Z logo.
So to make it feel continuous with the movies everybody has seen last which serve as an intro to Super, they would keep it alike at the maximum.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
That's disappointing. If it really is official, it just boosts my theory further that they're going to play it safe for the entire series

And what do you mean by play it safe? Name examples?Doctor. wrote:That's disappointing. If it really is official, it just boosts my theory further that they're going to play it safe for the entire series
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Retaining the status quo. Earth okay, everyone alive, Goku and Vegeta in the spotlight forever. Examples being Resurrection 'F', where some risks could have been taken with the ending, and yet they opted for the predictable and safe choice of resetting everything with a convenient plot device.sangofe wrote:And what do you mean by play it safe? Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
You gathered all that from a logo? Ermm okay.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Where did I say "Yes, this absolutely 100% confirms they're going to play it safe"? I said it boosted my theory that it would, just like placing it in the decade gap would also do the same thing and concern me even further.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Goku and Vegeta are going to be the only ones relevant regardless of whether it's set in the EoZ era or before. It's been that way since the Buu Saga. The only one aside from those two who got a small glimmer of relevance among the other Z Fighters was Gohan and that's completely disappeared in the most recent material.
I've come to accept that those two are the only ones who're going to matter in the long run. I've no desire to set myself up for disappointment by thinking otherwise. Sure the other Z Fighters may get to fight nameless henchmen like they did in RoF, but I think it's pretty clear only Goku and Vegeta will be dealing with the big boys as disappointing as it may be.

I'm 90% sure that logo is just a placeholder..... or, at least that's what I'm telling myself. The Super does look pretty rad and that part does seem like it could be in a final logo, but obviously the copy and paste of Dragon Ball is just lazy, lazy, lazy. Crossing all my fingers and toes that the final logo looks much better.

Which, in all honesty, means absolutely nothing in the context of his relevance in the new series.Marco Polo wrote:And yet Gohan is the second character to be shown in the opening.Birusu16 wrote:Goku and Vegeta are going to be the only ones relevant regardless of whether it's set in the EoZ era or before. Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Why does Toriyama keep teasing me placing Gohan everywhere just for him to end up an irrelevant punching bag when the real thing comes out?
"Giving up is something we can do anytime, so let's head on, even if it's just a little bit!"
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Toriyama can do a lot more thanks to this being a series which will probably run for a long time so it's safe to say Gohan will get to shine multiple times through out it and hopefully other characters such as Piccolo as well.garnetjester wrote:Why does Toriyama keep teasing me placing Gohan everywhere just for him to end up an irrelevant punching bag when the real thing comes out?
You can't do much in an hour and a half so it makes sense he only focused on the 2 main characters but a series that will probably run for at least 100 episodes gives him a lot of room to use the others without taking anything away from Goku&Vegeta.Birusu16 wrote:The only one aside from those two who got a small glimmer of relevance among the other Z Fighters was Gohan and that's completely disappeared in the most recent material.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I don't think so. From my point of view, I think it is pretty clever in the way, that they wanna connect the Super series with Dragon Ball Z as a true sequel, so the logo is the same one with Kanji for Super placed instead of Z.jda95 wrote:I'm 90% sure that logo is just a placeholder..... or, at least that's what I'm telling myself. It's TOEI and they aknowledge the old fanbase as well, as shown in Saint Seiya Omega which they've changed halfway to resemble the classic series more as the ratings were falling + making Saint Seiya Soul Of Gold as direct sequel to the classic Hades arc even with the second opening (without Kageyama tough).
Once more about the logo - it is an old trope in designing logos for marketed products. If there is something succesful, people get familiar with the logo, so if you renew the thing or make something new in the franchise that connects to the previous thing, you simply don't change the logo that much. The case with Kai I think was that they truly wanted to market a ''brand new series'' and make the old DBZ stand out next to the other new anime series.
Super is a sequel to DBZ.
