By all means set yourself up for disappointment. I certainly won't. Just don't go and rant when he turns out to be as relevant as he was in BoGs and RoF because you thought a place in an opening meant relevancy of any kind. At this point Gohan doesn't even know if he can go SSJ anymore. Can't exactly get any more irrelevant than that seeing as power essentially means relevancy when it comes to DB nowadays.

Why does Toriyama keep teasing me placing Gohan everywhere just for him to end up an irrelevant punching bag when the real thing comes out?

Because someone's gotta be kicked in the dick to be a measuring stick, and he happens to be the choice for that.

Well considering in the movie they were playing up them having no Dragon Balls, he was hardly phased his newborn and wife are dead. Krillin hardly reacted either. Nope we're supposed to feel for Bulma...but to a bigger extent Vegeta. I literally forgot all about Krillin and Gohan's families as they were completely overshadowed in the matter of earth blowing up. Either they remembered the Namek balls instantly, or damn they handled their families deaths really easily. So I won't be surprised when Super continues the "Dad protect my family for me" thing.

I'm in the semi awkward position of "these two are my favorites", but I can sympathize with the fact that the rest of the cast hasn't been doing that much and it'd be nice to give everyone something of note to do. I think it'll be easier to accomplish in a series because you have more time to work with, Toriyama wanted to give the rest of the cast fights against Beerus in BOG, right? That was cut for time, but now we have time, so...?

If one is browsing the 2ch thread for Dragon Ball Super (I believe this is it) be on the lookout for the words 演出 (enshutsu, episode director), 絵コンテ (e-conte, storyboard), 作画監督 (sakuga kantoku, animation supervisor) and 脚本 (kyakuhon, scenario).

The case with Kai I think was that they truly wanted to market a ''brand new series'' and make the old DBZ stand out next to the other new anime series.
Super is a sequel to DBZ.

Oh ho ho, the excitement is getting pretty overwhelming for me!
We're less than a month away from a new TV show that will likely be perfectly great as long as it keeps in line with the new movies in all aspects, except that it now has time to spend with more characters and story unfolding.

This is gonna be awesome every single week, I can't wait! Although in due time, I'll be restricted to sharing my excitement about the last episode with only friends and family, not forums. But if that's the only price to pay, I'm willing to pay it, and it's for the greater good.

The first episode is gonna get more bash than others though, for it is the one that will break some fans' sometimes-crazy expectations (and you know that if it doesn't go the ONE way they decided it should go, then it's obviously wrong and a waste), and also because a lot of fans will forget it is just the first 20 minutes of a really long story and will complain that "there doesn't seem to be anything great happening", "there doesn't seem to be a big villain", "there's no huge super-battle, they're all talking and living their lives, what the hell?", etc...

Eh, well, complaining to Toriyama won't make him change anything. He'll just do the opposite than the complaints. But I actually heard that complaining to Toei made them change things. So maybe it helps? I feel that when I complain, I just get moody and more negative and it's no good for me.

I wonder if this is because they don't want to distract people from Buu Kai and FnF. If we start seeing footage of newer, better characters people might just tune out of the current material until July.
